PARTY CUP CHALLENGE
Spring - Summer 2018

This contest is open to ALL icmag members; there are NO restrictions at all on environment / equipment / method, only the container size. (The primary rule being that roots must remain entirely inside the cup at all times). The true purpose of the contest in my eyes is tobring members together in a spirit of sharing knowledge and experiences of growing in tiny containers, so let's have fun.

RULES
Read Closely

1) All participants must use an individual Party Cup (AKA Beer Cup) max volume is 16 oz

2) All participants will use a clone, seed, or seedling of any Cannabis variety, male or female. Please specify strain/hybrid/breeder lineage in as much detail as possible (or even if it's a bag seed; tell what kind of herb was it in the bag the seed came from).

3) Participants can enter up to 12 plants (one plant per cup), and will choose the best one to be judged.

4) Seedlings may be germinated or not at the time of entry; Clones maybe rooted or not at time of entry as well.

5) All roots must remain inside the cup for the duration of the challenge and may require trimming. Any type of feeding is allowed, but if roots grow out the bottom of the container they must be trimmed immediately and not be outside the container.

6) Harvest must be no more than 18 weeks from today, that's July 29, 2018. You can enter and finish ANY time between now and and the end of the challenge but MUST be harvested with finished product pictures and smoke report by July 29, 2018

7) Keep the photos and updates regular, one per week at least. Missing 3 or more weeks during a grow without any update disqualifies a contestant, so keep up steady updates from beginning till end to be considered in the winners poll.

8) Winner will be decided by a poll posted after the challenge is completed.

9) It is expected of all participants to keep a good attitude in the spirit of community and sharing of knowledge and experiences. Let's all have FUN.

Completed Grows will be judged by the ICMAG community in a poll upon completion of the contest. Finished grows will be judged on:
Quality of the information given
Frequency and presentation of updates
Quality of photographs and / or videos
Explanation & details
Design of the grow (concept)
Smoke report
Answers to questions about the grow
Quality & Quantity of the harvest

Last but not Least; a list of micro container challenge history on ICmag (some great info and grows in these threads):

Ah this could not be better timing. Ive been anticipating the next competition, and Im glad to say I already began this challenge before you posted.

Cept, Instead of 16 oz, we've started off with 2oz dixie cups, and I intend to try and flower them out in those size containers. Should be hell of a challenge.

The clone on the right is in a 9oz container.

I start my seeds in 2 oz cups, transplant to 16 oz for the duration.

How many days will you veg in the small cups before you flip,
I wonder.

And will you flower under low intensity up close,
or flower under high intensity from a distance.

Much respect to your skills, as your test of nute strength for seedlings is impressive,
changed the way I grow.

nice dave!
what variety?

Its a cross of Afropips Durban Poison male x Gypsy Nirvana Thai Stick(G)f. Im expecting at least 100 days flowering time, so Ill be putting them into flowering tonight. The Thai mom produces massive buds in flower, so I could end up with some pretty chunky plants even in these tiny containers.

Id like to find another DPxThai plant like the one below.

Its a shame you can't compete this round, but Ill try to make it worth watching at least. Its gonna be a chore in 2 oz containers, but I plan on using capillary mats to keep them watered once they get larger. Lets see if I can make it look easy.

Good to know others have tried 2oz containers too. How long do you generally keep them in there until transplant to 16oz?

Right now they're around 2 weeks old. Maybe 15 or 16 days for the early sprouting ones. No more veg time for them. I intended for a week or two of veg before flowering them, so now's the time.

These plants will end up under a combination of 600w Ushio MH, and 315w Philips CMH. I think Ill place these seedlings where the lights overlap. There will be close to 3 feet distance between seedlings and light source. If I see too much etoliation, I will move them a bit closer.

Im glad my seedling feeding trial was helpful to you. So many people out there unintentionally stunting their seedlings because they've been mislead. Glad I was able to help your garden in some way. :tiphat:

Only issue I had with the capillary mats was the plants getting top heavy. To you have a plant for a trellis or something?

I dont have a trellis, but Ill definitely need to rig something up to support them as they get bigger. Last night I knocked all of them over TWICE! What a bitch it was to top off the media again and set them back up just to do it all over again.

count me in i just sprouted an S1 hybrid i made panama x herijuana x blueberry sativa
i'm going to try to do this in happy frog soil, 16oz cup, under LED's thinking of growing 12/12 from seeds since its mostly sativa i dont have much room at all. The seedling is just starting to emerge from the soil.

Your seedling feed rate thread stands out among the
most eye opening among the grow threads here on icmag.

I germinate seeds in the 2 oz cups and veg to maybe
two weeks, then transplant to the 16 oz cups.

The 6 oz cup challenge is the smallest pot I've flowered.

Light distance to tops of plants is a tricky balance
for some growers. Etoliation, that's a three dollar word, lol.

I use trays to transport potted plants, as I hand water,
can't afford the time waste of dropping pots,
but that still happens from time to time.

I will participate in this demonstration, deciding on which
pheno to showcase.

Maybe a thunk cross.

I second a Thunk cross. I dig sams Haze Hybrids. Excellent quality, and Im sure hybrids made using his Thunk should be some excellent plants.

You guys are making me want to get in on this. First Avanish with his hemp, then Dave with his 2oz cups, now you bring in THUNK crosses?

Sam's plants are so easy to work with, I wish I had
started these seeds I made years ago.

Currently I have flowered two phenos of the cross I made,
one is lime and the other root beer.

Both outstanding representations of the parents.

Got two new ones in veg, recently up potted.

I had flowered some S1 of the thunk and was getting
cat piss phenos, novel, but the smoke was not as
rewarding as the thunk original.

I reasoned, incorrectly, that the F1 cross would make
long flowering plants. At the time I was wrestling
a couple Zamaldelica phenos, and at 110 days I was
almost losing my mind with timing cuttings and veg
time.

The current thunk crosses finishes less than 90 days.

Thunk crosses for the win.

Stay tuned.
