Mac vs. PC - the great debate

I have build thousands, yes thousands of PC's since 1990. I have worked on hundreds of MAC's. To each his own. Each side can argue back and forth forever and never convince the other guy. Its like Ford or Chevy. But Just like I'm a Chevy guy, I'm a PC guy. But that is only cause I manage 18 remote networks...most of the software I run, runs on MS or Unix platform.

Where did you get that info??? All three of those programs are still there!!

If you stay on XP you will never be able to take full advantage of new hardware. vista sucks but 64bit 7 is not that bad. If you have good hardware, you should check it out. Its fast

??? for vista, maybe i'm wrong ehh, vista hit start and type into the search bar msconfig or cmd to run a prompt, i think i remember that. but i still hate vista and WILL NEVERRR GOOO BACK haha.

Vista and 7 are quite restrictive because of the UAC, seemingly because of an attempt to make the OS more user friendly. It's a lose-lose situation with Microsoft though. If they allow options to be changed and files to be messed with easily, they're accused of making their software easy to break and unreliable. If they restrict their software to prevent morons from screwing it up, they're accused of limiting a users options and restricting the user. I guess that's the result of selling software to such a broad spectrum of users.

Ignore him. He's not here to debate, he's here to troll. He still won't back up points he was repeating at the start of this thread, and has been insulting people that disagree with him. My guess is that his son (that he's mentioned a couple of times) is telling him this nonsense, and he's just repeating it here without any idea what it means and without any evidence to back it up.

I don't think Linux really has much use on desktop PCs. It's free and gets the job done most of the time, but it's still plagued with obscure problems that prevent laymen users installing it and using it with confidence. It's good for servers though. I installed the latest release of Ubuntu on my desktop and it wouldn't recognise the DVD drive for some odd reason, considering the release before that recognised it just fine. I installed it on my netbook and it wasn't compatible with the GPU, meaning I had no display. Problems like this mean that many users would be screwed, as it means entering the terminal and fiddling around to fix the issue. Not something most people can or want to do.

Definitely not quite average user friendly, but i like it so far. Windows is still my main OS though.

I changed. Though I still regularly use my Ipod Touch, but it keeps breaking on me. It's great when it works though.

LOL. If you truly own an iPod touch, how exactly does it break? Then how exactly does it keep breaking?

Why didn't you just return it for a new one?

You post bullshit.

The firmware keeps becoming corrupt, resulting in random crashes and stuttered playback from new music transfers. I have to reinstall the firmware (which yesterday took about 5 attempts), then transfer all my music, videos, and apps back. This is the first Ipod that has caused me this problem, and if it persists I will be taking it back. It's only a couple of months old and shouldn't have these problems. Luckily I still have my old Nano that hasn't failed me yet.

And you're the person who posts bullshit. Are you going to explain yet how modern Windows operating systems are just a GUI on top of DOS? Or are you going to accept that you were talking crap and were posting information that is decades out of date?

Let's see one OS has 90%+ of the pc market and the other 5-8%? Win PC's can be broken easier, but I find MAC people clueless of the inner workings of osx. Neither are perfect. This argument is only to justify your purchase.

BTW don't buy products that do not support flash. Why would you pay for content when it is free?

I really don't think 7 should be lumped into the same category as Vista. If anything it is more like XP. I have been using 7 now for a few months with no issues at all.

Vista really is awful

I don't get the Vista hate. Is it all versions of Vista? I've been using 64bit Home Premium for over a year and I've never had any problems... I keep hearing how great 7 is but I've got no motivation to upgrade because I'm completely satisfied with my computer as is. Is it some kind of aversion to changing options and settings to suit your wants/needs? There's no way a manufacturer can make an OS that will please everyone by default, those complaining about UAC... that takes about 2 minutes to get rid of.

Yes, you do post bullshit. If I had an iPod that was giving me any problem at all, I would've returned it already. A phone call to Apple and they send you a box FOR FREE and you return it and they just send you a new one FOR FREE.

When you make 100 million + iPods, I suppose it is possible to get a bad one now and then. If it happens again, then it is YOU.

Bullshit.

Newsflash (pun intended) Flash is a resource hog and is on the way out the door.

Just in case you didn't know. HTML 5 is all you need to know.

Keep in mind that this is coming from somebody who has a decade-old IBM Thinkpad that just recently was upgraded to have a gig of ram  Vista is an enormous RAM hog, but if you have a quick enough computer with enough memory you won't notice it. I can't even run Vista on my laptop, it makes me want to throw the damned thing. My custom XP install only takes up about 55mb total space and runs fast as lightning, not to mention it's arguably the most stable os that windows ever made, at least for my purposes. :tiphat:

Whats Linux missing that the average user needs? I've switched 4 people to OS 11 and Mint 7 and with just a few minutes to show them how to install software they no longer have any need for windows.

Now for those that just browse the Internet, check email or just visit social web crap Linux has everything plus some that they will ever need and for the time being its way safer.

hand holding, that's what is missing

as i installed the latest fedora netbook build onto an acer aspire one, there were several things out of the box that were not working, an average user was not going to figure out how to get wifi working for example as i had to bust out the command prompt, that alone will screw up the average user

so, if there is more hand holding for the user and less resorting to entering commands in a terminal then i might begin to agree with you

as long as the user needs to enter commands to perform what they believe are basic tasks, then the system is not ready for the average desktop user imho

that is exactly what i'm talking about!

i do this for a living, so it's okay for me to dive into a terminal and to edit crap under /etc and whatnot

for the average user this is not a viable option

their time is worth more to them than the money they think they are saving with a free os

most folks want the computer to work like a toaster, thing never crashes, put bread in, get toast out, that is all

people like myself and other geeky types are not the norm

So because I've not sent it back yet, it means it's my own fault that it's not working properly? What a load of crap. And you might already know this, but I'm not you. I try and fix something myself before I get other people to do it for me. And after reinstalling the firmware yesterday, it seems to be working OK. I'm hoping it's just Apple's software that's causing the problems, and not hardware issues.

Are you going to explain your point about Windows being a GUI over DOS yet? Or are you a hypocrite as well as a bullshitter?
