1800w vs 2000w

If only plan on flowering 1 tree at a time does it make more sense to flowering with 1000w hps on each side or 3 600w hps in a diamond formation? Also will cooling be that much easier with 1800w even though there are more ballast?

light Overkill dont = bettrer yields... IMO.. At most.. Stack 2 600s. Should be more than enough...
A single 600 would net you 4 grams less than 2 600s... IMO..lol

1 tree ?

Good grow to ya bro....

Im growing 4 trees with 1800 and pretty damn happy with the results
Im moving over to 2 trees just to see what happens. All things being equal, less trees = more happy me.

I would guess that the improved light spread of the 3 lights would yield more than the 2 lights even tho the 2 lights uses more watts and produces more light.

Thanks I appreciate the info. Yes just one tree in flower and one in veg. I am use to do multiple plants but just want to make it simple. I am trying to follow in heaths foots steps and he went with 5 600w between two trees. I figures 3 would be good for 1 tree.

the other thing : in theory vert is about wrapping plants around lights rather than wrapping lights around plants.
thats the whole concept of getting efficiency from the lights

I could not agree with you more. I am not sure what kind of climate you live in, but what are you using to keep your 1800w grow cool?

DaveTheNewbie what was your setup, how tall did you wait to start flowering, and what kind of yields were you getting from 4 trees 1800w?

ok in answer to your questions :
1) DONT try and do what i do. i break all the rules regarding environment and heat and RH
2) seriously read #1
3) i expect to pull around the 1 GPW, sometimes i dont but i put that down to blumats being erratic
4) i veg for 4 weeks under a 400w MH then put them into the 1800 HPS (i do have preveg in my clone room too, they are well established clones)
5) where i grow its fucking hot. its over 100 degrees in the grow tent. I have a big fuck off sized extraction fan but it doesnt cut it. I dont have any air con. I DONT defoliate because i need the leaves for transpiration.
6) i stack all 3 lights in a column and wrap the plants around that. I dont get wrapping lights around a plant. I will have to try it for curiositys sake.

I would go with three 600's. I would have the plant in a corner, or against a wall and have the lights on three sides of it. Check out hl45's indoor 3lber's to see what i mean. With 1800w for a single plant, you should be able to make it into a monster bush, and with light on three sides, i don't see any larf in your future.

You can't PM until you reach 50 posts. I vote 3 600s because you will be wasting a lot of light, might as well save a couple $$ on your monthly bill.

Ya I did 50 posts and I did PM him so I am sure he is just really busy it was a really long questions.

Right now I am in the process of either selling or trading my 2 quantum 1000w ballast so I can buy 3 600w ballast. My chernobyl is about 3x3 in a 5 gallon bucket and looking great. I just need the proper lghting before I flip it.

I sent you notification with a "visitor message" in your profile cuz as said above you can`t receive pm`s till after 50 posts , but not checkin your profile lets me know why you didn`t read the mod`s message about some of your previous posts getting deleted AND the "25" posts it takes to receive pm`s according to his message , so post up or keep askin questions in the thread...and....for the record......

Plants around lights , not lights around plants for efficiency.....If yas`re gonna grow 1 plant , put a parabolic hood with either a sideways mounted bulb , or a "vertizontal" reflector setup that leaves the bare bulb hung in the vertical position.......

4' parabolic hoods do well with single plant setups directly under the bulbs , but you should cover the walls in reflectix/orca/prodex to bounce lost lumens back at the plant FTW.....anyways......

Hereta help , and I couldn`t respond until now since you never read your visitor messages from me or Ganja Hasi.........

Peace.....DHF......:ying:......

Edit: Bro .....Your post count reads 18.....

Thanks DHF... I didnt realize I would not be automatically notified when people posted on my profile.

So with one plant I should only use a parabolic hood. It seems like a 600w on each side of plant would do better. I read the heaths grows and it seem s that a 600w on all sides would produce great results. I am use to horizontal growing so I am still learning about vertical.

If yas got the cash ta surround the plant with bare bulbs , just remember by end of cycle what it cost in amperage draw to produce said plant with X amount of veg to get it big enoughta utilize being surrounded by lumens.....

Heath`s grows are not typical Bro.....Good luck and.....

Thanks again DHF... The way I look at it is if I can place one 600w light veritcal on either side of the plant it will cover 50% of the plant. I do want to keep costs down as possible and I am trying to grow smarter then just dumping a shit ton of light on a single plant. My Chernobyl is already 3x3 in size when I flip it I am sure it will finish at over 5' I just want to make sure it will have enough light. If you really think its a waste to run 1200w vertical vs just 1000w horizontal for one plant I will just go back to horizontal. I really want my end goal to be 2# after 3 or 4 runs I am just sick and tired of wasting money trying different light setups. So if anyone can tell me how to hit 2# efficently with 1 or 2 plants let me know. In the past we hit 3 1/2 to 4 with 20-25 in a 4x8 with 3000w cooltubes. I appreciate everyones adivce and help.

My electric bill in California states

First 500 kWh $0.1367
Over 500 KWh $0.1498

How do I calculate what it will cost me to run 1000,1200,or 2000w in lights?

Well I grow 5ft tall plants with 600w and 6 footers with 1000hps. The bulb hangs just slightly below the canopy so no light escapes. Peace y'all
