im suprised someone has not done just that grow out these outstanding sativa strains and the charge double for them

because nobody is going to pay 5-6k a lb. that means dispensaries would have to get 10-12k a lb which would equate to grams for $23-27. legalize marijuana and people will be able to produce long flowering strains without worrying about profit margins

in the current market it seems to be worth LESS than shorter-crop hybrids, given the fluffy and sometimes downright-ugly appearance.

Sorry, rambling....

totally true. I quit running a pheno of arjans ultra-haze cause of that. Its a nice Sativa (Cambodian and Laotian cross i believe)

I'm gonna see if I can properly market some... I know from reading a lot that there is demand out there... I just think it's a mixture of poor marketing/salesmanship/education.

My last run I had this crazy 12 week flo that outgrew everything else in my space (not the prettiest but smoked well), it's been the only thing I've smoked in the last year that gave me auditory affects (that crazy heightened sense of hearing) that you get with some strains. I don't want to say what I sold to the local club for (I should have just kept it for myself... but I needed the money at the time). I was talking to them a couple days later and they were already out (sold within a day) what kind of a business plan is that. Next time I'll do separate jars on consignment (not to be broken down for individual sale), maybe some labels and written info about it, and some web marketing on my own part. Tell them not to sell it of so quick... there's only a few people right now looking for these kind of strains, they'll have a better chance of finding it if it's on the shelf for more than a day and I can let them know how to find it.

So between the low yield weight, long flowering time, and apparent market worthlessness, sativas will remain on the sidelines of the game...

Precisely! I rag on many dispensaries for being so ignorant despite their being purveyors of (usually) quality buds. Many can't recognize quality product when they see it. It's all about physical appearance to them. The smoke can be killer, but if it ain't purty 'nuff, it ain't worth their time apparently. Not all clubs are like this, of course. But many are.

Lucky for me my patients enjoy a good sativa from time to time. And I love growing (and smoking) 'em! So the market is out there... Just hard to lock down.

Oh yeah, I agree with you Motaco. Kids suck. All I hear from them is kush kush kush kush. So annoying. They call anything and everything kush haaha! Hell, they're not even sure what they are even smoking sometimes... /end of rant

bud appeal is major. ive had some AMAZING sativas that wernt very visually appealing on the shelf next to kushes, chems, diesles and people will almost ALWAYS go for the tight nugged indicas over a long calxyd sativa.... most people arent expereinced/educated on growing and tend to think that the sativas arent well grown because they dont have the tight bud structures that indicas have. thats why i just do my best to teach people about strains and growth traits.

its not the dispensaries fault. its the patients who want visual appeal. we have to supply what they want. why am i going to spend alot of money on a strain thats going to sit and sit and sit on the shelfs because i have to convince people that its better than it looks as opposed to a kush or chem that has that crazy bag appeal and guaranteed to sell...?

I think a budtender should be asking people if they want something for daytime or nighttime use. Anyone who wants to go to sleep can have a chunky indica, everyone else a sativa or at least a hybrid thereof. If more people tried good sativas, the clubs would quickly start pining for them.

it's a sharp eye that recognizes a good sativa bud. Almost always lighter green and airier, and many time less trichs, it's the quaility and character of the smoke. I want to capture those qualities and combine them with a heavy couch locking indica, actually grinding the bud up together, to get the best of both worlds. Especially for the holiday season when it's OK to be a little merrier. ahahaha

Cracks me up how many stoners DON'T know that there is no such thing as a dense Sativa. If they were dense, they would have molded and been thrown out. They HAVE to be airy to survive an equatorial climate and not rot. Durrrrr!!!

Oh, I believe you... no doubt that's the current norm.

That's why I'm planning on floating the deal as consignment (probably offer net 30/60/90 depending on turnover rate eventually)... I belong to a cool collective, I help with their web page/presence. I can pop up links to reviews/threads/info about, maybe link to a thread here on the grow, include harvest date and info on jar. Maybe even seal them with wax. Think $1000 dollar bottles of single malt/barrel scotch that are aged thirty years. Not an absolutely crazy price... but how about a fluffy big well grown sativa, about 4 grams in a half-pint jar (it would fill it up) or maybe a pint jar for $75-$95. That way they can see a visual of how much they're getting. I give it to friends that way and they're like "Damn... that's a huge 1/8th"

Every club I showed it too eyeballed my jars asked if they were 2 ounces and were surprised when I told them it was just one ounce (just about filled a quart jar)

I have some experience in marketing related to other high end expensive products (audiophile). Damn if sometimes people don't buy stuff just because it's expensive and they can brag about it and be a snob.

if you guys love sativas, visit the philippines!!! $13 US would prolly get you guys 50 to almost a hundred grams (depends) of purely land race weed... no crosses with indica too which sucks coz i'd really love to try something that puts me to sleep!

Much Respect from the Philippine Islands!
