CFL ballast question

Can I use a ballast from a broken cfl? It was a 40 watt bulb that was dropped (still pissed off at myself about that! It was my center piece and only used for 2 days!!!!) but it is what it is.

I have seen you can modify a cfl to be hard wired rather than screw in but I am wondering about the other end!

The screw in part is fine and I assume the ballast itself is fine. Can I use the internal ballast for a pl-l or anything else?

Tell me anything other than "get another one" or "throw it away" please!

I suppose you could, but since you have to ask the question, I doubt you'd be up to it. Plus, a 40w CFL is about $8 or $9 if you buy a name brand. I'd probably just shrug that off and head down to walmart to get another.

The idea behind using a remote ballasted PLL is to get the ballast (a source of heat) away from the grow. Unless you're going to put the end of the dead CFL in a socket in a separate space from your plants, you're going to go through a frustrating process for no real benefit. You can buy a Fulham Workhorse 8 ballast that is capable of supporting 4x55w PLL lamps for only $30-$40.
