Hotboxes attempt at PPK/Vert

Ok well I have been prepping for this for some time now and it has all fell into place. First off I want to thank a lot of you guys out there that have been in the trenches for all these years bringing all the knowledge to the Table. There are WAY too many too list individually so we'll just say if you contributed to this site in a Positive way this is for you.

Ok here we go I have been doing my thing in some what of a smaller scale not that what I am in now is very big, but you have to start some where right? Anyways before I was pretty much perpetual in a micro set up it was doing well but just not keeping up to my needs so I purchased a couple new tents to hopefully get my #'s up. Everything is pretty much new equipment except for some gear I am running in my mother, clone, juvie tent it is all from my last micro flower chamber.

I have gone vert, ever since I seen a few different set ups on here. I went with it in my micro box and am glad that I did, nothing like getting a 360 degree footprint and ever since I have never looked back.

Before I used 3 gallon smart pots with coco but this run I will be testing a PPK with a tester plant I have been working with to get everything dialed in for some Jedi youngsters I have getting ready for the big time.

Here is the flower tent its a 4x4x6.5' tent, Right now I have a quantum 600 in there but will be pulling another 400 for a mixed spectrum for flower. In the mean time this is just a 400 watt MH for veg until a few days before the flip, but that probably wont be for another week or so.

I have a 6 inch inline fan hooked up to a CAN 33 then threw a 6 inch duct muffler for the noise and I must say it works pretty well too.

The PPk is just a 15 gallon roughneck tote with a 250gph water pump for my pulse connected to a 6 inch hydro halo. I have a 5 gallon bucket set up to a float valve inside the tote for add backs. Basic PPK set up 1-1/2" sink Tailpiece for my wick. The top chamber was purchased and made before I knew about the wide rimmed being better and producing a bigger plant in its confines as D9 has come to find out so this should suffice until I get my main system set up, remember this is just a tester.

My main substrate is coco with a small amount of perlite mixed in. You should have seen the looks I got asking for Turface, people thought I was speaking in a different language. Needless to say the Coco will have to do. The perlite on top of the container was added for retaining moisture.

The 6 inch duct coming threw the tent was just until I receive my Honeywell in the mail. they are hard to get this time of year.

I will be feeding a modified version of the Maxibloom KISS method hence the modified I don't like the flush I get from the 2 weeks prior so I will be cutting the N out all together around the 5th week of flower and jumping to a flora bloom based mix with first koolbloom powder then liquid. This will all be down the road some so we can get into that later on, but for now its just Maxi at 7g/gal , dynagro pro-tek silicate at 5ml/g ,and Botanicare cal/mag at 6ml/gal. I use rain water and I also use the GH ph drops to test my water no PPM reader never really used one but so far haven't needed it. I dont put much faith into the shitty hanna testers and I really ain't running anything that constitutes spending $250 + for the blue labs tester so until then may the gods be in my favor he he he he he.

here is a cpl shots for your viewing pleasure, my photography skills suck so for that I am sorry. Hope you guys/gals enjoy, any and all questions please lets get this party started.

wanted to add these shots of the PPK and most of its working parts the only thing I really couldn't or should I say didn't have a picture of was the float valve inside the tote but if you have seen one float valve you have seen them all. so on that note here is the hydro halo kicking on every 2 hours for 30 secs I get a full pulse out of it because as you can see I am getting a good drain from the drill holes in the bottom of the pot. The next one is the plumbing for the Halo and lastly the 5 gallon bucket set for add backs.

Nice set up bro.. Big o health looken lady ya got. Looks like ya got a solid plan. Interested ta see how your nuit feeding work out. Im digging the simplicity of the jacks hydro yet next year i might try some old age nuits I have from last years grow. Hate ta waste it...
Why not use the 3 gal smart pot on the ppk ? Working great for me. Just need to raise the pots a little ta get air flow under.

Are ya planing on plucking foliage at all or ya going full bush?

Lol ...wont play 20 ? On ya yet...
Off ta a grand start... Rock on....

Nice set up!

I cant find turface easily in my area either. When I did find some it was 4-5 x as much as diatomite, so I use diatomite, aka floor dry.

Props on the pics, it helps people wrap their heads around the PPK.

@aliendawg- yeah I plan on defoliating here soon as I get her tied up to the torture rack. I will also be pulling some suckers and other stuff that grows out of the back unless it is a major branch then I will just pull it around to the front.

The smarties would work I guess but I want something a lil more rigid for this set up plus I am not sure how the root pruning would work out seeing that your roots engulf the entire setup after all is said and done with, but its something to try some time. Thanks for joining in and the questions are all welcomed

@Highlife45-Thanks for stopping by if it wasn't for you I would have been still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing so with that cheers bro. BTW your set is rocking man I wish I had the space for something that size. yeah the system really only cost like $60 start to finish and I am sure it can be made for even cheaper It sure is set it an forget it. Just got to get my veg tent set up then I might be able to leave for a week. One step at a time. Thanks again for stopping by

more and more people are turning to PPKs
I haven't read a single negative post about them yet.
when everyone went to blumats it wasn't long until negative posts started to surface, now they are common.
its getting harder and harder to resist the lure of the mystical PPK
its awesome to see a new PPKer start up and just start winning.
soon baby soon !

but I see myself getting very lazy with this set up lol

I'll let you blame the PPK for letting you get bored... but lazy? Common. Step it up. Grow something! Grow more! Use the time to read more... or do some situps.

You can do it hotboxes. Don't idly side into the sludge. Shake yourself off and do something with all your newly found, anxiety free time.

Shit... innovate and experiment.

But for the love of all things holy, don't become lazy.

(The law of unintended consequences...)

It was Just a quote IG I am working on getting another tent set up for a monthly flip and I was actually jumping on for a second to ask what everyone thought about running 2 4x4x6.5' tents from one 8" inline I am going over it in my head and tryn to figure out the logistics of it all. My tester plant is a plant I made from Female seeds Iced grapefruit x to a supposed Chem d male but its very dank I have a male I plan on dusting a cpl clones of her as soon as they root to make an F2 from it and work with them a lil bit. I am always into something never at idle believe me I used to lurk a lot of peoples threads soaking knowledge like a sponge.

Lazy my hairy ass. If you get it going like D9 you will not have time to do anything but trim bud.

exactly, but it is a very laid back set up which will give me plenty of time for working on other things. I tie all my ladies up to a torture rack and spread their legs to get maximum light penetration to the bud sites. I did this in my micro box and usually pulled around 5 ounces dry on avg.

Let this serve as a lesson to be much more disciplined in the thoughts you share with IF....

Oh it is now for sure. I better phrase my words a little better.

So i found out that I have a sour D female, a chem 91 male and female, and 3 of my jedi's are females so far just 3 more to confirm then I need to get everything set for a clone run so I can back up everything I will be flowering, plus I have some plans on running a couple breeding experiments also. I have a small cab. that I run seed plants every once in a while in so once I determine what I want to work with I will get that rolling as well but first is first I gotta get another tent ready to go but that mite take a little bit of time.
