Ski and Snowboard season 2011/2012

Used to watch those bad boys all the time when I had netflix... They had a bunch to stream...

Fantastic powder and incredible shots for sure :dance013:

What's everyone riding this year???

Rockin' a long and wide freeridin' board for my long and wide ass... Never Summer Ind.

Great for a few extra tokes out of the pipe and just barreling through some trees... Chuck yourself into a nice bed of powder and cruise on through, no problems

Gotta rock the easy in, easy out FLOW bindings too... Get me stoned and in a big puffy jacked, and I don't like any straps and rachets :moon:

So whatcha riding??

Gnu riders choice. With banana tech and magnatraction. It's a great all atound board cuz I have shut mountain choices and conditions vary from Vegas ice to Utah powder. The gnu eats it alll. Only downside is it is piss on the groomers. Too short. The bindings are the new gnu mutant. Similar to flow as you go in the back door buy they have 2 ratchet straps to fine tune.

I'm starting to jones so bad now. This past season was so sick that if this one is even near it I will so happy. How come nobody is mentioning the middle of CO? Don't forget about summit county ya'll. I can't wait to be cruising trees at keystone. Hanging out at "the beach" in no more than a month too. There are certainly worse places to live.

I'll be riding my board from last year, the Ride - Highlife http://www.snowboard-review.com/snowboard_reviews/review/highlife/ most of the time and I have my Burton Nug for playing around. http://snowboarding.transworld.net/1000131059/equipment/burton-nug/

I have union force bindings on my board and it makes for a sick combo, definitely recommend union bindings.

^i'm rocking a ride too. I got the Machete. I love it. great all around board lots of rocker. floats decent in powder cause the nose is a little wider, and is a star at park and pipe.... but i'm not. I suck at the half pipe. hoping to get decent on rails though. I am a powder guy at heart!

Also got a stiffer, atomic alibi for going a little faster on the groomers.

any recommendations for some new snowboard bindings

for this years skis I am still shopping. looking for a good pair of all mountain, with rocker, and good for powder. recommendations welcome

http://www.unionbindingcompany.com/product/snowboard-bindings/force

Unions, trust me. 200 bones for bindings that you will get at least two seasons out of. I'm mostly all mountain type riding, cliffs, trees, powder, bowls and I will rarely hit up the park. The force bindings are stiff and responsive but not uncomfortable. My only complaint is that the toe buckle on my rear foot (right) lost it's spring action and just flops around but stays engaged. I trust it 100% to not bust loose on me and it's pretty much an aesthetic thing which doesn't bother me. My only complaint about the highlife was when I first got it the whole clear coat top sheet was all melted into the inserts and was a bitch to clean out and get screws into there. Certainly a shit mistake for a board that I spent almost 600 on. Once I got that out of the way it was good to go. Will get at least another season out of it but will probably try a libtech next round. I kept telling myself that I would get a split board but now I'm thinking dirty thoughts. Instead of dropping all that scrilla on a split board it might be worth it to look into a tele set up. But that's neither here nor there. For all I know I could try some out and hate it. I just hate how hard it is to get around on a snowboard sometimes.

I'm excited for snow season too, I'm an amateur skier but this year I'm ready to take on boarding. I'm looking up ski resorts in Colorado now. I usually go to Wisconsin with about 10 friends but this year we are looking for better.

Also thanks for the tip on the bindings. my bindings are super soft cheap forum brand bindings, and could really use something a little more responsive, and stiff.

After seeing this thread I totally got sucked into reading through all the new libtech gear for at least 30 minutes. I just got back from one of the board shops down the road and was trying on the 2012 Salomon Malamutes. I was trying to buy some boots then but at 310 for a pair I'm going to have to wait til next pay day. Can't........fucking.........wait........to......rage.

Hash Zep, I've been riding with my FLOW bindings for 4 seasons now... Granted I probably only ride 2 full weeks here and there throughout of the season, but I'll put some strain on the things. I've caught them on the trees and rails a few times but they're holding up strong. I'll ride everything from moguls, powder, trees, park (not so much), and enjoy the nice carves and turns and some speed. I love the things, reliable, durable...

Easy in, easy out with the heel support that folds down too is probably one of my favorite features for the lifts. Easy to adjust, and once they are set, they are good to go for some time without loosening as long as they are set properly...

Someone mentioned a binding earlier in the thread that also folds down in the back but has some ratchets on the front for easy tightening and adjustments. Never tried them, but sounds very nice and would prob be worth looking into.

I've seen the DIY kit for making a split board and if I ever got serious enough I might entertain the notion but I feel like a pre fab one would hold up better in the long run for me. I would want one to last many seasons and not delaminate at the cut marks.

^that is a good point. you get what you pay for. I always recommend looking for proven quality. If your gonna support a company might as well support a good one.

What I really wanna get is some of these. http://www.thermosoles.com/

also because I like all of you guys I want you all to get one of these. doesnt have to be this one, just get one. http://www.rei.com/product/824516/red-by-burton-mutiny-snow-helmet
http://www.nsaa.org/nsaa/press/0506/facts-about-skiing-and-snowboarding.asp

Has the introduction of helmets made any difference in terms of head injury and fatalities in skiing and snowboarding?

According to Jasper Shealy, professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y., who has studied ski related injuries for more than 30 years, recent research has shown that the use of helmet reduces the incidence of any head injury by 30 to 50 percent, but that the decrease in head injuries is generally limited to the less serious injuries such as scalp lacerations, mild concussions (Grade I) and contusions to the head, as opposed to more serious injuries such as concussions greater than Grade II, skull fractures, closed head injuries and the like. There has been no significant reduction in fatalities over the past nine seasons even as the use of helmets overall has increased to more than 33 percent, and to as much as 40 percent within the population at greatest risk—experienced young adult male skiers and snowboarders. The pattern of death seems to be affected by the use of a helmet. Most fatalities are due to multiple causes or injuries. Approximately two-thirds of those who die who do not use a helmet have as the first cause of death some injury to the head. For those who die while wearing a helmet, only about one-third have a head injury as the first cause of death. It seems that while the use of a helmet may shift the distribution of the first cause of death, it is not sufficient to reduce the overall rate of death. In incidents leading to death, it appears that the severity of the incident simply overwhelms the ability of the helmet to prevent death.

moral of the story. helmets are awesome. get one!
