New pics!

New pics!

It's day 3 of flower and the girls (*crosses fingers*) are doing well. They love the HPS and their new home (but they keep whispering in my ear that they'd REALLY love for us to bring them some supplementary CFL lighting!).

We fed them yesterday with our usual molasses/LK tea (we haven't watered with anything but pure water the last few times). This time we also added (2 TBS per 3.5 gallons of water) of high N bat guano to the tea. This didn't work very well since we haven't been brewing our tea, just mixing and serving, and the guano just wouldn't mix in. I guess we'll have to get a brewing setup for any future watering's that include guano's.

In the pics below you'll be able to see the LST work we've done. It's difficult to see how we tied them down because we're using plant green shielded copper wire, so they're basically hidden. They've been tied down for almost a week, and I'll release these bonds once it hits 7 days. The LST did the job; you can see that each plant has several new "tops" growing out. Nice!

What you can't see in the pictures because of the HPS is the yellowing that's still going on. It starts from the bottom and moves pretty slow, but causes the first few sets to yellow. Usually only the first set of true leaves ends up going semi-necrotic around the tips and then just shrinks and shrivels up. The sets above those usually just remain a greenish-yellowish-lime color, or (as is most common) a dark lush green higher up. We still have no clue how to solve this, or even what it is, so I guess we'll just keep an eye on them.

Our temps have started to make me wonder. It stays right around 68.9 with the HPS on (it rises to about 70.5 when we also have the CFL in the mom room on). At night when the HPS is off, it drops down to about 60 (the lowest so far was 59.6). So far it doesn't seem to have bothered them, but I'd like to raise it another 3-4 degrees during both on and off times. My solution? Well, for now I stuck the seedling mat in there (it lies horizontally across the middle section between all 4 of the pots). Hopefully this raises the ambient temps a bit (or at least warms the pots/soil a little). I hope that adding CFL tubes will increase it too, then I can take the mat out.

Anyway, on to the pics!

Looks good there KJ.

Open to suggestions? Get the light closer to the plants.

Yeah, we tried that but it just didn't work out. It casts to much of a shadow to the outlying edges the closer you get, plus it makes it difficult to work in there and the oscillating fan becomes useless because the hood is in the way. For now we're leaving it as is, but our next grow will include CFL tube side lighting in both rooms, which will solve this problem.

The girls are looking really good last time I checked. I untied their bonds yesterday and they immediately stood up and the fan leaves stretched out; I think in the 8 hours after I removed the LST, they went through a growth spurt. I'll have to take pics soon so you guys can see how much they've grown even since the last pics a few days ago.

j.guit.err and jamrockjay: Thanks for the continued support!

Looks like Peanut is working some very sativa leaf structure there. They're all looking real healthy too.

So, you were LSTing but now you're not? I musta missed something in there. maybe the upcoming pics will tell the story!

Yeah, both Peanut and Petunia are very sativa in structure and similar to one another. Purdy on the other hand is a different girl all together; much more indica structure, yet still retaining some of that sativa structure as well. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

The goal of this LST was to force the girls to put out more "tops". In order to do this, one only needs to LST the main shoot for about a week, which gives the auxins time to make their way down to other future "top" sites. Each of the girls put out about 6 new tops in that week, so the LST had done the job I was asking it to. The stems are still bent even though they're reaching up to the light, and we've turned the sides with the new tops toward the center where the light is most intense.

That's cool KJ, have not seen it done like that before. My experience is that keeping an even plant canopy takes a lot of adjustment along the way. Exhibit A for what plants look like if you stop training before 12/12 stretch: my grow, lol. Some stayed even, others, not so much.

But those little seedlings planted in those 5-gal airpots reminds me of some little girls trying to walk in mom's shoes...

Yeah, I'm sure we won't have the most even canopy, so I may have to do more tying down. We'll see.

Haha...that's a great image. I hadn't thought of it that way.

If you can't lower the light, how about raising the plants?

Hey, thanks for stopping by. Yes, we likely could raise them a bit higher, but I honestly think they're doing great. They're about 18" from the light, which seems appropriate in our setup.

Looking good, brother!

I can't wait to see how everything will turn out.

A quick update from my end:

Seeds were shipped yesterday, should finish (mostly) the cab this weekend, lights and miscellaneous accessories should be ordered this weekend! Ready to grow by April 1 at the latest!

Glad to see everything coming along!

Good news, bad news

Good news, bad news

Well it's been confirmed, Peanut is a male. Fortunately both Purdy and Petunia are females! Ironic, given the names we gave them. So we will be culling Peanut this weekend; unfortunately we don't have the space to keep him around. It's too bad because I really liked his structure; he was the most sativa of them all, had the most vigor and growth, and was certainly the most pungent at this stage. Oh well, you gain some you lose some.

Now hopefully the two Blue Mystic's pull through as females (and thrive as best they can considering that they share a pot).

Pictures this weekend!
