I planned on running 3-3000k and 3-5000k for this run to see what happens. Found a place that I can order 6 as a min. 5000L @ 3000K, but if you say I can get away with the 5000's I might stick with them.

as for the plants, they have continued to explode the past 3 days. They are growing like weeds. I have decided to tie them down for a few days and then build my scrog to maximize the space I have. New grow I will only have 2-3 plants.

Your plants look wonderful...:tiphat:...Under 5K...?

I would go with the 5K's but that's just me, I like to mix it up and see what happens. But seriously I see no problem if that's what you have on hand and $$$ is a concern...

Keeping the plant count down and the bud count up is just good Gardening, make the most of what you got...

One thing I would mention for the future, one of the best ways you can control your plant size is by it's root ball size, small cab use a 1gal, medium cab use a 3gal, larger cab use a 5gal. Those Homer Buckets are 7gal ( dry weight ) and normally to large for what we are doing under T5's. The plant spends a lot of time growing roots and wants to get big in those large pots, so it slows things down and can get out of control if your not careful...

That said you will be fine with those homer buckets, it will just take a little longer and take more training, super cropping to keep them under control...

ZZ- Yes they will be under my T5's the whole time. I can't seem to find 3000-3500K T5HO's around here. only 4500 and 5000. I have called everyone and they won't order in unless I take a min of 40 lamps. I don't have that kind of money.

my closet is only 30"x52"x8' so size is an issue. thinking about switching to a dedicated room in the basement but gonna keep these here till I figure out if I want to continue. I already have dumped a good amount into this setup.

IF: you do decide you need tubes. Look at the internet sources. I've not brought any in yet, however it looks like the prices are enough lower that you could buy the whole case lot, for not much more than what some local sources want?

I think you'll find Commercial Lighting Supply Houses are our answer.

Well I used to be an electrician before I messed myself up and I started calling around to old wholesalers and found some great deals! (they gave me my old pricing :dance013:) I can get Standard 4850L, 3000K T5HO for $6.15 each and a 5000L 6500K for $6.35 each and if I buy 25 I can get them each for $6 even. Also can get Philips 6 lamp T5HO fixtures for $155. But doing the math it's a lot less $$$ to run a HPS esp that I can get ballasts for free (400W), lamps are only $30 and last a lot longer. Only reason I'm running T5's now is heat issues with my current setup due to very limited space oh and they look cool! LOL.

ready to flower,t5 style!

looks great!

local wholesaler sells them for $6.00 and needs only 3 days notice to order them in.

T5s are by far the best lights I have worked with. If there was one thing I could choose out of my garden to keep, it would be my t5.

By far the best investment I have ever made for my garden.

I will soon post some of my own pics from the most recent grow. Here's and old one though...

I threw that setup together in a few minutes and saved a load of mothers and rooting clones.
Hooray T5!

ZZ do you always grow from seed? Those are some nice looking plants!

Thanks Kutp...:tiphat:

Yes I always start with seeds, the reasons are many...

No Bugs or Diseases unless your a total P I G hog...

Stronger, Healthier, Easier to work with then clones...

Plant count means No Mothers for Me...

Just to name a few...

I will run my own cuts sometimes, depending on the circumstances...

When I get a new 10 pack of a certain Strain I will pop 5 seeds and hope for two males and two females, take cuts of the females and let nature take it's course with the four mature plants. After the seed run I will have 100's/1000's of F2's of that strain and then I can grow out the cuts to see whats best...

Hope That Helps...

PS... The other 5 seeds are for if you get all males/females or just want to refresh your stock by revisiting the original stock...

Mr. Tops, typically how tall do your plants get? I have decided that my plants are out growing the closet quick and have started working on a 10X7 dedicated, 100% T5HO grow room. Height might be my down fall though. I was thinking of stacking for flowering but I only have 7" ceilings. I am still working on a layout.

Day 28 of flower, everything is cruising along! They've been drinking like crazy so they've been getting watered every day now. I've been feeding every time as well and I'm wondering if I'm just wasting nutes, or if it's actually doing some good? I thought I did a pretty good job of keeping my canopy even during veg, but it's gotten really out of control during bloom. Maybe I'll try scrog next round!

From left to right - Agent Orange, Jillybean, Orange Spice.

And a close up of the Orange Spice. Even though she's the runt, she's the nicest/frostiest of the bunch, and very chunky, really looking forward to this one.

I don't think this has been covered yet; what lamps are u guys running (brand)?? For the guys who have been running them the longest have u found one brand that is better than another for longevity and output? I am in the process of upgrading my lighting and have everything but lamps. I am currently running sylvania lamps but I paid $10 each for them (5000lumens and 4750K). They claim 60,000hours at 12 hour starts. Doing research I have found the higher the L and K the lower the hours. I found an online store that will ship TCP lamps (6500k and 3000K @5000L) across the boarder and they are only $4 a piece but would like to avoid ordering from the States and dealing with customs for obvious reasons.

My HydroFarms came with Phillips, and the store switched out half of them so I have the full spectrum (both Phillips). A friend of mine said he used the Phillips commercially and recommended them highly. Going to be buying them by the case when needed, from a commercial lighting supply house.

I have shut mine off for the summer, as I'm letting the sun do the illuminating. I'll be back to T5s this winter however.

waiting on my second light before I flip the lights!

I kept the lights 2-3" away the whole time even after I tied down the main stem I went 4-5"; YET they still turned into a thick bush. Should I trim anything before flipping? Should I let them grow anymore? OH I am going to be scrogging them.

Only time I lifted the light that far was if I was going to be gone a couple of days.

And yes, from all I've seen, heard and done, The big fans would be on the compost heap. and once you've established the scrog, all the leaves on the understory get picked. Just leaving the stems on the bottom, they don't get enough light to flourish, so why waste the energy? Like 'Bud' better...

Will cutting all the bottom growth back to the stems cause shock?

Some say yes, but i've taken a handful a day off each plant and not seen anything but increased growth... much like a response to predation by grazing animals. ???

If you have patience do it a few at a time. lol

From what I've done, I'd say it's more important to get the head thinned, so that you get better circulation. The roots are already developed... so now is the time to concentrate on growing BUD. :woohoo:

Unless of course you want the plants to look all plump and pretty, with all the fans. More photogenic that way, of course.:)
