Been following this thread for weeks now and I'm hooked to say the least. Anyhow I went out and got some mung beans to play with until I hit a brew store for the barley. Any recommendation for Barley? 2 row, 6 row?? I'm using Bioflora compost since it's local and seems to be ok quality until I make my own. That seems to be the key here "a great compost" before anything else. Unfortunately, I have been using Roots organics but plan to recycle and re amend as needed.

I got it wrong before so do this: call the brew store and ask them which Barley is higher in enzymes. Or better yet come back to this thread later today because a lot of people here know the correct one to recommend.

Roots Organic uses a solid straight Sphagnum peat moss so you're not out there. It's their humus that is called into question. So amending this potting soil mix will move you in the right direction.

In the future if you need one of the best SPM products out there, i.e. Premier Peat from the Pro-Mix company you can go to the Ace Hardware web site, choose which SPM pack that you want and have it shipped to a local Ace Hardware store. You choose which one. The price that you see at the web site is all you will pay - there is no S&H charges. I looked at their prices recently and this is a great deal!

W89 - you should see another noticeable response from the sprout tea, and looks like the right amount of seeds sprouted, especially for alfalfa. I've used 5x that much, easily, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it LOL.

Barley I've gone way overboard as well but without any negative response, but certainly no better than using CC's recommended amounts! regardless this is definitely a less is more situation.

Let us know how the sprout tea works!

Thanks for the awesome info! Been taking many notes along the way in case I drop off cyberspace for a break. I saw you mentioned "higher in enzymes" in a previous thread. I was just wondering a spefic but I have no problems asking them at the brew store. Rice hulls and 6 row barley is .99 a lb so that's not too bad at all.

Brew stores have a range of products that we can use successfully in our gardens. Some of their powdered Barley malts that have the highest levels of enzymes is one such product. I have used it in the outdoor vegetable gardens.

A couple of years I found a reference in an old book by Luther Burbank where it discussed using roasted barley (not sprouted) to make a tea like the Japanese drink. He used this to spray his gardens during the hot season to reduce heat stress. His work - not mine.

W89 - if you haven't added Aloe to the routine - you definitely want to!

Yeah I bought an aloe plant to tide me over till i get the freeze dried powder.

aloe plants like a fast draining mix but aside from that dont seem to mind a rich planting mix so your organic soil with some added pumice or lava rock should be fine.if you can get it outside for a few hours a day it will grow fairly quickly but they can sunburn if moved outdoors too long initially.if you keep it a bit on the pot bound side it will throw more pups which are easily cut away to make new plants.

Cheers for the info mate, it's in a small pot like 3/4 of a cup and there is hardly any roots it was bone dry when i got it the shop obviously wasnt lookin after there shit too well I literately had to soak the whole pot in water for like 30min for it to take on water.. but once it grows some more roots I will repot it into my organic mix

succulents are both very hearty and astoundingly easy to kill, its always better to err on the side of dryness when watering them.
cold + wet roots = dead plant quick!
if you have space for it in your veg room that would be a good spot for it as well, this time of year most succulents are in a rest period but if you place them in an extended day length/warm area they will respond with new growth.
if you are just going to keep it as a houseplant for now than only water it enough to keep it barely moist,i only give mine a turkey baster of water every 10-14 days and its under lights...

nice collection you got there mate I used to ave a few cacti but gave them to my uncle when i moved house they used to drop clones all the time was pretty cool..

Mine is in the veg room too.. when i went to get it their was some other plants just labeled Mixed succunants or something like that would they be good to use aswell they were only 99p and bigger than my aloe plant

~I just extracted the juice from couple of leaves mixed it with some kelp and alfalfa and added my new potassium silicate product potsil the directions state 1.5ml per ten liters for seedling and 3.5 for adult plants so i just pt .15ml per liter and sprayed the plants.. this product is going to last a long time it's very concentrated

LL, do you cover your container with a lid or something when you
soak your sprouts? I have always left my jar open to the air so I wouldnt completely cut off the oxygen; in addition to the film on top there were air bubbles too. My timeframe has been close to the two day mark as well, a little less than 48hrs id say

No lid on the jar for me...could be one of the seed types I used, but who knows. There were probably 8-10 types of wild bird seed and 4 types of rice. Still worked seemingly well after drenching the plants (praying leaves and all), even with the possible slight fermentation, but will still bubble in the future.

W89 - How did that soaking work out for you? The first time I brought home aloe plants in the same condition yours was, I pissed them off with too much water. Less is definitely better when giving them a drink...they're probably mormon...

how many seeds did you use? I just used 1 tea spoon of alfalfa to bubble in 1 ltr of water..

I used about 2 tablespoons to 1 ltr of water, diluted to about 35ltrs.
Keep in mind I had some larger seeds in the mix such as sunflower as well as the rice, so my tablespoons might equivalent your teaspoon of alfalfa in terms of seed count/weight?

Would you say i need to dilute my tea spoon per 1 liter of water? This one is only gonna get 24 hour brew if I use it with my next watering, if not I might just use a light watering tomorrow then use the enzyme tea the next day and do the same light watering..

Also what are the benifits of the enzymes? what do they actually do?
