GOLD PROSPECTING

ok,
isnt this thread supposed to be about US diggn gold, or is it just about TV shows? any one get out and pan some sand? any one have a metal detector? i've been collecting mineral and gemstones for years and am now branching into gold.... and dont watch those shows on TV

hmmmm...welll that's all good, but i think most ppl posting in this thread and even just watching it have been out doin' the dirty work (i sure have)...or at least have a big desire to.

....and what's wrong w/ watching the shows....they are entertaining if your interested in the subject, and if your into prospecting they can teach you things....if nothing else they will teach you what NOT to do (especially if u watch the hoffmans...lol)...and i think they are actually onto something in the klondike like i said before they even started digging.

i know the yukon really really well (hence my name on here for years)....there is ALOT of gold left in the klondike fields to recover.

alot of gold has been recovered throughout alaska and the yukon....and experts estimate that less than 1% of the gold that is there has been recovered....that means there is a shitload of gold under that permafrost.

as much as i can't stand the hoffman trainwreck...i'm sure they will do better than all the others at the end of this season...just based on where they are. :tiphat:

true that.
parker needs to respect gramps a whole lot more......w/out him parker wouldn't be at the site or on this earth.

...plus it looks like next episode gramps has a heart attack.

..and like i keep saying the hoffmans are gonna hit it......and the only reason fred found shit is because the hoffmans did 99% of the work towards the glory hole.

im not a fan of the hoffmans, but they are hardworking and tuff....they keep taking blows and keep bouncing back for more....determined w/ stamina...def. what a miner needs.

The guy with those machines is someone who has developed a few different models of those machines.

There already are quiet a few refining machines around and he likely agreed to be on the show for exposure purposes.

No one is mining in AK @ this time but is watching the show. The show is on everyone's
(mining related) table in AK hence they all get to see those machines...and if they work will buy them.

Free advertisement in a popular show. ;)

just saw the trailer for the new discovery gold show from the producers of "deadliest catch"

"Bering Sea Gold"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G2WHkwaC20&feature=player_embedded

'Bering Sea Gold' combines 'Deadliest Catch' with 'Gold Rush Alaska'

New series on Discovery Channel covers treasure hunters digging for gold off the coast of Alaska.

When Discovery Channel producers heard about what goes down annually in Nome, Alaska, they must have died and gone to ratings heaven.

While the small, isolated city only has a population of around 3500, that number swells during the summer months when people from all around come to try their luck at striking it rich. Due to its geography, Nome is rich in gold deposits - the catch being that most of it lies in the cold, uninviting, and often dangerous waters of the Bering Sea.

Enter "Bering Sea Gold", a new series coming to the Discovery Channel in January that documents the crews working to strike it rich in the open water.

"For two million years, glaciers have been melting into the Bering Sea and depositing sediments rich with gold into its waters," the press release states. "As Nome’s ice pack melts during the summer, the isolated, ramshackle town of eccentrics and outcasts booms with excitement, as pioneer gold seekers rush to get out onto the water. Miners dive and dredge to scour the bottom of the sea from custom built, barely seaworthy rigs -- in a race to haul in as much gold as possible before the waters become too frigid to dive."

Produced by the same team that brought the mega-hit "Deadliest Catch" to television, you can expect this one to come standard with engaging characters from all walks of life. One example is the crew of the "The Clark":

"The youngest boat in the fleet, this 20-foot diver-operated rig is captained by 24-year-old Nome native Zeke Tenhoff, who built the dredge from junkyard scrap," the release states. "Zeke’s diving partner is childhood friend and greenhorn Emily Riedel, 23. Zeke’s motivation is paying off over $100,000 in hospital bills – while opera singer Emily wants to earn money to go to school in Europe."

Look for "Bering Sea Gold" to premiere on the Discovery Channel on January 27th at 10PM. A three-minute preview is available below.

Whats up with next week??? They are shutting them down??...they are a risk to themselves and others?? Whats up with that??? Have to watch and see I guess :D

I saw some episodes of the "canada gold rush" show the other week, and damn, they sure struck me as typical stupid redneck americans!

Leave food everywhere and when the bear comes around, they kill it, for "being a thread to my family"

And wow, that gold digging is sure messing up that nature!! :(

any1 have 1 or know about mining ice fields, placer or gold mines in this thread or is it just about reality shows?

Todd Hoffman needs to pick up a shovel and get to work. He is not a good foreman and screws up the rhythm of the team causing much wasted time. They need an oilfield driller or tool pusher to tune the site. They know how to get hard and heavy work done. Todd is not much on assigning a job and trusting the guys to get it done. That new show looks cool. I already have a great idea on how to setup a dredge to make sure the material keeps flowing and almost eliminating diving altogether. It would take two or three people to run the platform and one to run the suction heads. Might costs a few $$ but the result would be awesome....

there's been some mining discussions, had a few on this thread
i don't have any tips on placer/ice field mining, but there are some here who look like they do some fairly serious mining

i think the spirit of the thread is proceed at your own risk and knowledge
not conversant with the mining act, but understand that mining where ever it strikes your fancy is a risky plan
i did some panning on property of my own, nothing found gold wise, but it was an interesting experience

We are just a bunch of stoners talking about "what if's" on gold mining, none of us are experts here. Im sure there are gold mining sites out there that have more information and advise.
