SCROG advice needed please.

Hi,

I invented these roll out adjustable SCROG screens for my room so I could just roll them out, to pull shoots through screen etc. The mesh screen slides in between plastic blocks which can enable me to lower the screen if using smaller pots etc. I used barrier mesh as more flexible than my rigid plastic 50mm screen and also the holes are slightly bigger. The trays are sat on top of a trolley made with decking and castors on each of the 3 lateral boards, then attached to the end of the boards is a length of 50mm x 50mm post, which then has kitchen fixing blocks screwed in which can be set at multi levels. The screen is just planed timber with corner brackets in each corner and barrier mesh stapled all around, and slides in and out between posts, for ease and also if I don't want to lst and train etc before applying screen.

If anybody wants me to do them a guide on how I built them then just post and I will do my best.

Right down to the advice bit, as this is my first SCROG I am unsure whether to flip now to 12/12 or not? I have read different guides and some say to flip earlier rather than later? and some say wait until screen is 60% full then flip? Well I dont want to fuck this up so I thought I would ask any SCROG experts what they think looking at the pics. :thank you:

I just hand water them so it runs out the bottom of the pot into tray, then by the next day the run off has evaporated or being absorbed by the plant. I now always do it this way as I used to run a waste system from the trays to outside, but when I changed to this way I noticed no difference in yield/health etc. But I preferred having the waste system when using drippers on timers, as I had more run off so I needed it. :ying::ying:
P.s I know this might cause a debate on coco having best results used fully hydroponic with drippers set to feed 4 plus times a day, but I do fine for myself using a wet and dry method similar to compost and listening to the plant.:ying:

I am using a layer of clay pebbles about an inch deep at the base of the pot to aid drainage and coco on top, and they appear to be loving it.

Until you really have your grow dialed in to this strain, it will be tough for you to really say when to flip. If it were me I would flip a little early and tweak things from there. Now since you're flowering, I'd keep as much moisture/drainage out as possible. Humidity plays a big part from here on out.

This is a very nice setup Speedemon, i love the way its clean, trim and tidy. That is a good line-up to, i think you will get a good yield from those screens. Do you stick to a standard hole size in scrog or can it be any size you like? I have never considered doing a scrog myself, after seeing this i think now is the time for me to try one.:)

Hey Warped1, thanks for stopping by :) yeah I read to flip sooner than later but wanted other members advice as would still like a nice crop :)
As for humidity I have that covered this time with a slimline silent dehumidifier with humidistat so I set the humidity in the room to what I want which I will probably set at the 45-50% rh mark. This year for some reason I have suffered really high humidity in my rooms which normally run at a low humidity, I can only put it down to the weather so that's why I invested in 2 dehumidifiers for each flower room.

Hi mate, thanks for the kind words :) I have read up on SCROG for a while now and that has taught me like anything everyone's ideas of the perfect SCROG are different. The most talked about way is using 2" mesh squares screen, but when I used the 2" metal scrog screen I have, I found the buds swelled so much in the screen that it was a mission to remove them. I then used b&q rigid plastic 2" mesh and had the same problems and even had to cut the mesh to remove some of the buds, then I saw a SCROG of one white widow using barrier mesh and it yielded 47 oz dry weight in a massive pot. The barrier mesh is flexible plastic which you can cut easily to make the holes bigger and also when the buds swell the mesh will not cut into them. Problem with the mesh is I could only buy 50 meters of it lol so I have shit loads left spare.

I have invested in 6 of the largest conical supports costing me £42 but hopefully worth it, they are gardman ones like the ones in the pics :) My thinking was I would be able to walk around the plants fine and they will support the larger buds so no yoyo's needed :) I have seen them in a few RWDC grows :)

Hows it coming along man? any pics.

I noticed you were saying that 2"x2" screen holes were too small for your buds. well buds shouldnt be growing in the Screen but just above it. i use 2x2" garden mesh myself, seems a good size. But your bunting/mesh looks fine too tbh. you'll want to work with the stretch & lose at least half of that stretch height through the screen, filling it up & positioning your colas in thier final resting place, before letting them grow up above the screen(think ahead). if you do it right, no bud growth will grow in the mesh at all! hope this helps & makes sense. nice strain selection btw!

have you seen VerdantGreens Mod Scrogs, might be worth looking at yourself, running multi strains!

cheers for the plug scrogger ;)

as said its always a tough call on when to flip, depends on strain, size of screen, type of light, and lots of other factors. looking at the pic on your first post i would say they are about ready to go to 12/12. it's worth keeping notes/records on the strains - especially if you keep cuts to run again.

good luck

Hi Srogerman mate :tiphat: My buds lol would never just grow above the screen they would always just start below :( I am hoping for better things this time though with your help :) Since flicking them to 12/12 on Friday they are deffo starting to srtetch meaning more pulling through to keep on top of it :) If in the pics below you think I should change the direction of any bud sites please just say :) as I want a decent SCROG this time :)

cheers for the plug scrogger ;)

Hello VerdantGreen :) Nice of you to stop by, I have read loads of your grow diary's and they are all amazing :tiphat:
I had a look at your mod scrog grow and I have made those pot scrog things before using my 11 litre pots, but then decided I did not like them lol so I made the roll out trays instead.
This might sound a stupid question but how do you mean take notes/records? Do you mean on the growth rate and stretching time? I will be taking cuts of all the strains I am currently running, but can put any combination of my strains into my SCROG room and then the rest into my other room which is not SCROG.

As always all help appreciated :tiphat::ying::ying:
