root rot in coco?

have you ever grown in coco?

Looks like YOU are the one who needs to learn coco game...

Also, try to incorporate some chlorine into the feeding solution (2 ppm, or 1 ml per 10 gallons, regular Clorox).

Coco works best with slight wet/dry cycles and using the dead rez principle.

Dr. D is right on the money!
Your bottom roots are staying too wet for too long because they're sitting in water in your drip tray.
Dump out the trays after the run off stops. Or use a shop vac to suck it up.

evelme- i woud love to use my shop vac any time there is excess water but unfortunately i water at 10pm every night and i also am on the 3rd story of an apartment so to use a vacuum that late isnt really an option but i appreciate the advice...

It looks like your roots have been getting saturated at the bottom of the pot id put the pots up on a couple of bits of bamboo just to raise the pot off the floor maybe remove some of the more infected roots and hit them with a good dose of Canna's trichoderm.
Can't really see anything else you can do at this stage....Peace

thanks for the advice doctor d! canna's trichoderma is a product i was unaware of until i read your post. ill definitely have to check my local hydro store to see if they have it and if not for this run, future coco projects!

praisehim.

^^ yea cat. dont let them sit in water. when you feed to waste... the point is... feed... then waste. I use trays, and only water half the plants first, then drain, then water the other half, then drain again. assuring, that they will never sit in water.

if possible, raise the tray, pop a hole in the bottom and hook up a pvc to drain. Theres a few diy on that here in ic.

also, let em dry out a bit more now than usual, then hit em with a root stimulator for one feed, they should eventually perk up as long as they dont get overwatered again :)

hope that helps.

thanks for the ideas! for right now everything is set in place so there wont be any modifications but i think i will let them dry out a bit more and do my best to not "over water" and possibly even take the drip trays out but we shall see how things go from there...

still got one question...

still got one question...

would the plant show any visible signs that root rot was occurring?
like would there be any leaf or bud deformation or death/rotting?

i have these sugar leaves that all are doing this weird batwing claw thing that has be concerned also but im not sure if its just the strain...

anything to be concerned about?

i would love to help you out but you don't deserve it. Read more about coco, and growing in general, instead of asking all these questions and wasting our valuable time.

You never mentioned room temps when you started the thread. You never mentioned that they sit in run-off water. You never told us shit.

Luckily these kind gentlemen have cared enough to help you.

I never did like cats.. good luck root rot

if you had anything helpful to say, you woulda already said it. this is a community where people can ask their questions about growing without worry of dickholes like you pretending to know everything. you say "We" as if anyone on this site would back you up or lump themselves into some group with yourself.
everyone was helpful because its in our human nature and thats really why we're all here. to learn and to help when we can. pretty obvious you couldnt help anyone by reading all your post....

I'm not a know-it-all, and nobody here has acted like it. Why so defensive? Help yourself before you ask others. Read all the info that this site has available before you spit shit. If you did that, you would know not to let your plants sit in run-off water. You couldn't even fill out the sick plant form.

is that helpful enough you big baby? Oh i bet not, because you want everyone to do shit for you and answer every fucking question you have when you should be searching the forum and reading.

all these questions you ask have been discussed in many past threads. search run-off or browse through the coco forum and you will see all the answers to your lazy questions.

thats an amazing idea 3 pages over! thank you!
:wave::thank you::wave:

3 pages over? how about you look through past threads that discuss ways to clean run-off... start in the coco forum.

quit leaving negative rep for 'not helpful post' when your not being helpful by HELPING YOURSELF by reading before you ask questions and doing your homework.

i guess you're just slow so here...

buy some stuff called sm-90.. 3ml a gallon, flush the fuck out of your plants with it.

then give it a nice 1/2 nute strength watering with 2-3ml gallon of sm-90 every watering, which should be daily. after a few days bump it back up to full strength nutes and water every day with at least 10% run-off. You can continue to use sm-90 every watering without harm. your issue will clear right up. Once your problem has been fixed, you don't have to keep giving it sm-90 but it's a great prevenative additive that will not hurt.

Also, I don't recommend using perlite in the future unless you use huge pots and/or a drip feed

listen to your buddies here that love you and keep those plants out of run-off water -something you should have known before starting your coco venture.

next time you have a problem, don't bother starting a thread until you can fill out the 'sick plant form' and give us detailed info in the 1st post.

i guess your just an ass so here ya go

a little harsh for the internet dont ya think? not everyone is comfortable searching the forum and being confident in what he/she has found as good advice, some prefer to ask ?'s.

perhaps it was too long ago since you were a noob at growing to remember the feeling of being overwhelmed with the amount of info at the mag. not me, that is why i offer my advice.

if you are irritated with those who want things handed to them then it is your choice to take part in that thread or not.

berating the guy in multiple post's and then finally giving advice??? why bother??? just go???

EDIT:
next time a thread irritates you b/c of the obvious lack of research, dont bother posting just keep going.

what is the dead rez principle?

Basically you keep it sterile, no positive nor bad bacteria, just zero.

Generally used when you can't keep grow environment below upper seventies.

Not much chlorine is needed, a drop of regular Clorox per liter (4 per gallon) of water will do.

I add this to every watering (with or without nutes).

Useful for Coco and peat moss based soil mixes.

i do what i do.. no excuses in this line of work IMO. He wants to whine that posts aren't helpful, yet he chose to be disrespectful by acting like member mango420 didn't know what he was talking about on the 1st page when he can't even help himself by researching before asking questions.

by the way it looks like mango420 was right.. '3 pages back'..funny. :tiphat:
