please tip? im trying to make a living..

not sure if this is relevant for the tokers den, but i have got to say.. if youre spending upwards of $30-$60+ on food to be delivered, you should really consider tipping. i am a driver, and am supposed to make a living off my tips. not only do i prepare a lot of the food to be delivered, but i also drive it to you. the least you can do is throw me a dollar. i have a wifey at home who has to pay bills, i have college bills to pay and a deadbeat family. most of the people i deliver to are young and rich college kids who dont know the value of hard work... or just work in particular. if youre able to pull of a C average so daddy can buy you that new BMW.. im sure you can find a way to tip me a dollar for good service. i DO understand why some people simply dont tip. lack of good service.. but come on! I have 10 gold stars next to respect and pleasant-ness. help me out! i want to finish out this chemistry degree... not smell like french fries forever!

sorry for the rant. RESPECT FOR MY DELIVERY BROTHERS! and RESPECT FOR THE ONES WHO ARE GENEROUS TO THEIR DRIVERS!

I used to deliver pizzas and subs. It was a hit or miss. I hated when someone would have a bill for $29.90 and give me $30 and think I should be grateful to them for it. I luckily had a boss who would reimburse you if you didn't get a tip by giving ya $5 for the trip.

I refuse to tip at places like dunkin donuts, alls they do is poor my overpriced coffee into a cup, Im sorry but that does not deserve a tip.
I always tip food delivery people, get me my food within a reasonable time and I give them 1-2 dollars. I used to tip large at restaurants, but now I tip about half of that, nothing against the wait staff, going out to dinner is already expensive, we're in the middle of a recession, just dont see any reason to leave like 15 bucks to bring me my food, someone else usually comes and cleans up afterwards.

You know what sucks is that many of the owners who put the tip jars out keep the tips and never give it to their employees. No joke, I haven't worked for a single person who would.

Wow I am amazed by some of the responses. Most delivery people get paid lower wages b/c tips are calculated in as part of the wage. Its either allow people to give tips willingly or the employer can autmatically charge it onto your food bill to ensure these drivers (who use their own vehicle and gas) get compensated. Should waitresses who get paid below minimum wage fuck off too? Maybe you'd prefer everyone get paid a living wage straight from the employer and the price of food goes up..... Delivery drivers remember who tip and who don't. It can make a difference between getting your food in 10 minutes and having it show up cold.

15% is reasonable to tip on bills. I don't see anything wrong with not tipping people at counters, but people who drive to bring you your stuff b/c your too damn lazy to drive in yourself... .cmon

My boyfriend used to be a pizza delivery guy. Hated his job and quit after a few months. So if you don't like your job, it's time to find a new one.

I don't believe the responses on here. It should be considered mandatory to tip decent, you should feel like the cheap P.O.S. that you are if you don't tip. If you do not have the money to tip, don't order out simple as that. The company should pay their employees better but that does not excuse your rude anal behavior for not tipping fairly. I don't have lots of money, never did, but I always tipped fairly on the rare occasion I ate or ordered out, and even gave homeless guys a dollar most of the time. Hopefully someday things will come back around and I will be rewarded, but I don't do it for that. I take it back, I don't want to be in the position where I would depend on the kindness of others so I don't care about it "coming back around". I am a firm believer that good deeds will be rewarded by karma and assholes will get theirs. I hope I am right. peace

one time, while i was delivering pizzas years ago, a road was split by a ravine, in a confusing neighbourhood. (and i like to think i have very good navigation skills) Delivering food calls for timely manners, not late by even a second. I was late a few minutes and the old bald fat fellow opens the door atop a large flight of concrete stairs before i even stepped foot on the first. He exclaimed i was LATE and he didnt want it. I asked him what the difference between arriving now and arriving earlier by a few minutes being on time...he said it wasnt the point, he doesnt want it now. I remember getting so angry inside but i didnt let it unleash. I honestly cant remember what i said back then, (i know what id say now, but i cant say for certain back then) but i remember throwing the medium sized pizza like a frisbee to the top of the stairs, probably about 10 feet and it landing perfectly at his feet, and walking back to my old vw gti. no more front wheel drive. understeer, ew.

tips sucked back then too. just teh way it is, there are more pennysavers than generous folk. I probably fall into the poor, pennysavers at hte moment...id WANT to tip if i ordered, but i cant afford to, so i dont order in...

lol @ classy, it's how we used to operate in society, but with everything more expensive, tips are the first buffer to get reduced.

there is no added sales tax in new zealand, included, the price advertised is the price paid. Tipping isnt usual there either, food for thought.

Very good point. As I have said before, I step over the dead and trample the weak ruthlessly with no regard to emotion.

Honestly though I tip very well, at least 5 dollars. There have been times when I am broke and I would pay the delivery guy in quarters when they show up to my door with no tip. It felt bad but hey when your stoned and need a pizza you need a pizza. I don't take into consideration what path in life lead you to delivering pizzas to the late night munchie crew, or wether your car is a hoopty or if you have bills to pay.

I have worked at 2 pizza joints in the past, never delivery but I know how busy it gets on Friday night. I made $4.50 an hour, it was my first job. Me and a couple friends figured out how to cook the books each night and I made about $100 a day + my wages. The place soon went under after about 1 year of that and it has never returned.

I suggest you figure out a way to get on top, school is a good start but most degrees will just have you end up working under someone and making THEM rich. You do know money grows on trees right?

Better luck to you man, like I said I usually tip very well because I like to "spread the love", but you need to take matters in to your own hands and fuck everyone else.

I can't believe the nerve of some people to bitch you out. If someone delivers something for you, it is a basic courtesy to tip a certain percentage. What people do in India is of no concern to this conversation because I DARE you to go to an Indian or African restaurant HERE and be served by Indians/Africans and don't leave a tip. You will either be insulted, told not to come back or both. It's just plain RUDE to not tip an it's inexcusable. If you can't afford it, stay your broke-ass home or cook for yourself. The sense of entitlement of some people is unbelievable.
