The story of the $500 ounce always bothered me. I mean, nowadays you might see top quality going for that, but in inflation adjusted '91 dollars that would be the equivalent of around $800. I just haven't heard of anyone paying that much for a bag.

I was on dead tour during that time. There were definitely LOADS of different kinds of bud going for $500/oz on the lots. When you're making the kind of money you can on tour, $500/oz for head smoke is nothing.

.....an ounce of "kind bud" as we called it back then was right in line with an ounce of gold right around $400 give or take......

...there were even shirts being sold at shows that had a pic of a nug and said "Worth more than it's weight in gold" or something like that

i agree...i've been saying that for a while... 20yrs ago $500 bucks... i have my doubts...

and i would guess that whomever they copped it from had more then the 2 ozs chemdog bought, so they sold oz's/lbs to others which also contained seeds, so the shit is probably being grown/sold elsewhere under other name (s)...

thats assuming a lot. it's assuming that the other people that bought the herb were also growers and saved the seeds and germed them and saved the genes. i'd say there's about a 2% chance that happened. 99.5% of people that get seeds in a bag of herb throw them out.

and the story was chemdog was sold an oz in ohio for $500 and later copped a pound after being blown away by the oz. and the seeds came in the lb and there was something like 13 or 14. not exactly a seed crop.

I didnt mean to high jack a thread and open a can of worms. I just want truth. Truth is weed was highly illegal back then and ounces of funk were going for a lot of money. That we do know.

For the most part, none of use really no shit about what really happened. There seems to be truth to both of these stories though and I also see a lot of correlations. I just wish someone would come through with hardcore proof. Jason King in the cannabible seems to side with the Johnny Appleseed Dead tour story.

If i can get a magazine owner and 2 rappers to say i created Purple Kush, OG Kush & Bubba Kush maybe the 4 of us can strike it rich with a new Kush seed line. Sorry for being cynical, i'd love for it to be true just so we could all find out the truth but i can see plenty of reasons for it not to be and how people might benefit from a false story.

jason king is a clown. a lot of us here watched the whole chem dawg story play out in real time back in '05 on overgrow. at first JJ and Chemdog were talking shit to each other about where the chem came from, but then they figured out that they were the same people that met back in '91 on tour. All Jason and High Times has done is interview those two about what happened. I believe REZ had something to do with bringing the two together also, which is why REZ was given the okay to work with the Chem line and produce seeds.

i agree maybe 2%... probably even less... i know we had bags and bags of seeds... never even germ'd a single one... but someone grew the shit, so it was around being grown by someone...somewhere

What is funny about everybody saying they invented something is that anyone in our realm can do it. There are no copyrights or royalties involved, and if so no court would hold em up. Some guy can sell you a bag of weed or some seeds calling it anything he wants, with the most elaborate story (happens everyday actually) and there ain't nothing you can do about it.

We live in an underground society where things like truth and honor really are more important than above ground. We don't have the courts. All we have is reputation with each other. So when you invest in time to grow out some beans you have to know you are going to get what you paid for whether it is for high, canopy height, flower period or whatever.

These stories to me are entertaining at best. I am sure every seed has a story but the myths outweigh the truth 100:1. I believe half of what I see and none of what I read.
