The problem is that the average grower is a hobbyist that probably will never go big. They believe that the only ingrediants in their favorite ferts is what is listed on the bottle. It is childish to believe that these companies are going to let you in on their "secret" recipes. Just because you know some basic high school chemistry doesn't mean you are able to breakdown a formula. We only list what is obligated by the state, or enough to shut up our customers that buy out the back. All major sucessful companie's products are simply copies of each other, some just formulate better ones than the other guy. We make money selling to big boys who know exactely what they are buying, any sales under $3000 are just passing time. That's the truth in this business. You never just go with one line. You have to mix and match, depending on what chemical you need. you might use pureblend bases, then pre-flower with bud blood, then big bud, then bud blaster, and so on and so on. Grow shops dont make alot of money off their products. I usualy get around a 36%-44% profit margin. And big buys are far less than that.After shipping (small orders) Taxes, etc. your not slaying the customers. Open a 7-11, it's 300% mark-up for potatoe chips. It takes atleast $150,000 of products just to have a decent inventory. The truth of the matter is that advanced nutrients creates the most advanced nutrients. Bud Factor X is a remarkable product. It tricks the plant's immune response, and as we all know mj's defense is its oils. But you dont pay for the ingrediants in bud factor you pay for the knowledge and research it took the obtain this information (where do you think it comes from?) That is what people don't understand, new technology is always expensive because the cost of research and man power has to be paid for in full before the cash can be considered profit. It is made up of a chemical derived from a type of mollusk and another chemical commonly found in asprin. Sensizyme, or the original Hygrozyme, is nothing more than a by-product of distillers, i sell it for $12 a gallon. Not $36 a litre. But, im not known worldwide. In this world only the talented, smart and hungry should survive (ask Darwin), not some moron that happens to butt in on a conversation. The customers that complain are the same guys that read a bud candy label and think its only Magnesium Sulfate, When that's just where the .5% of pottasium came from. Or my customers that say we have to legalize it so it's dirt cheap, which would destroy this industry. Who's gonna spend hundreds of thousands on research if herb is worth next to nothing. If tomatoes were worth $2500 a pound we would be talking about them.With how much people make from investing in $300-$400 of nutes (small gardens ofcourse), I think they should just shut up and pay. I disagree with pretty much everything you have said and hope to hell you are not at the grow shop I use. I am using Scotts Hydro Pro and calcium nitrate...cost me about 2.5 cents a gallon...no "secret ingredients" and it kicks the living shit out of any other nutes I have tried. Amazingly enough they include everything you actually need, including plenty of SO4-, no additives needed.
But that is just my take, you are certainly entitled to yours.

To the op: if your not keystoning on AN or other ferts in your shop, your not negotiating well enough. My store did 70k in ferts almost every month. If your complaining about the margins, maybe you should consider going into potato chip biz where the real money is! The last thing the world needs now is another hydro shop pushing snake oil..

Scott's hydro-pro is just The Miracle Gro Company, i dont see why u would be going to a grow shop for that. SO4 is sulphate, sulphate is a salt of sulferic acid. Plenty of salt?
Chitosan is bought oversees from asia in massive bulk. It takes such a small amount for fertilizer that it takes special equipment just measure it. Like trying to add a spec of dust to your res. And just about every major company has played with it over the years.
I mentioned the margins because someone was bitching about pricing, paying $90 for voodoo and such. If $90 is your whole allowence then maybe step your game up.When was the last time you went to the other coast and saw anything different on the shelves? Let alone anything different on the label? I keep my margins low because I push the cause, not because im struggling. I know that comment was ment to wreck me but $70,000 is easy when the majority of your shop is ferts that mimic each other. I'm going to bite my tongue. If you been doin this long enough, and your shop is on the left coast, chances are I sold you on AN. Stuff works, but so do all the products they copied. 40% price increase for more watered down crap. Hygrozyme & sensizym are not the same at all. One is live & requires carbs. One isn't and can be used in sterile hydro substrate grows and soil/less media, the other doesn't play well in all substrates. 1 depending on it's inconsistent yeast content,will die off before you open it, where the other has a longer shelf life, and much less is needed. I'm only going to start there for you. I was an AN mod, tech rep and retailer. I assure you, I know AN & BS. Thier synonymous.

Magnesium, aminos, & a good humic fulvic will make that recipe ROCK

Simple and effective. The way growing ought to be. I arrived at a similar feeding regimen before finding out about the "Rezzipe". As long as you have the proper mindset, common sense, and the willingness to dig deeper into manufacturers' claims, you're golden.

I know I'm not as established as the senior members such as toohighmf, but I give Bud+ two thumbs up. Using it this cycle and my babies are loving it.
My only complaint is that it does not dissolve very easily. Do not dump it straight into your res. Shake it in as you would use a salt or pepper shaker. This will prevent clumping. Also helps if you shake it over the crazy bubbles generated by your res air stones.

i want to first start off by offering up a big apology to you. i have been in AN threads before sticking up for them after you have slain them with words of fierce fed up truth.
i always tried to give them their day in court, which i did with mediocre results. i have had supreme results,,,,,NEVER WITH AN SNAKE OILS. i wish i would have jumped ship sooner, becasue onj my latest crop, after i lost all my mothers to jealous partners, i started another crop of aurora indica and ws growing them with conny and the whole lineup.
well to say the very least, i just emptied a half a clip of hydra-shock 230grain jacketed hollowpoints into my whole nutrient bin. i took all my an shit out to the woods and destroyed them with various loads of .45 auto, 10mm auto, and 5.56mm. i did it in a safe manner, or as safe as could be. the entire 18 galon bin full of quarts of this or that an garbage, probably had a conservative retail value of at least 1500 bux, so i gave it a bunch of "bucks".
sorry that was a bit off the wall but i had to i am in tears cuzz i fell for the hype blindly, and had you, the zen master of all an's dirty little tricks, telling me to head for the hills, run dont walk, break out your old gh flora pink and red bottles and follow you rez recipe like you i knew i should.
well i have a miserable looking crop 26+ days in and they look like 2 weekers, and im no newb or am i not familliar with nutes or plant nutrition, as i have been in it since early 2000. i am not a guru but i know my way around a grow room like any other 8+ year vet. i dont know what the hell happend to me to make me complicate my life by using a bazillion different bottles that go bad in less than 18 months, shit ive had flora series sitting around since 2004 and they are still as good as the day i bought them.
also every single time i have ordered something from AN, it had rocks in it the size of gibralter(sp?) and when i paid half the retail price in return shipping, i got a new bottle....WOW, and the new bottle is even more rocked up than the first one was. in tears i was again literally.
