go with the 55g drum they are cheaper, and i would dig out a circle for the pot a few inchs in the ground, roots grow out from smartpots and should go into the ground

the roots won't grow far. the fabric is designed to 'choke' the root
at the bag interface & cause a nodule to form.

I don't think the roots will grow out into the adjoining soil.
They are root pruning cloth bags.

Looks like its going to be a great year for alot of us OD farmers...good luck to everyone, and grow more than you think you can handle....just be smart about it, and you will be glad you did... and dont forget to put in for vacation, around the end of October, Your going to need it for all the trimming.....LOL....

I disagree. I grow with Smart Pots. The weed block material and the pots act the same. They will block foliage since it cannot penetrate the material's tight porous structure and they block a good deal of light from reaching the roots. Generally roots will hit the fabric and turn 90 degrees since there is too much air and too little moisture for them in the material, so they make a right angle and look for more favorable conditions. However, if the conditions are right the roots will go right through the material. I have seen roots grow from one smart pot and proceed a number of inches into another because the pots were kept in contact; that provided the right environment for roots. Likewise roots will grow right through the bottom and into the soil if placed directly on the ground.

I am going to say it because I know nothing of aero to soil, but how do you transplant monsters from aero to soil??? Do not tell me very carefully, I have heard that before, seriously hows it done? I have a dream of coming home and getting some outdoor, east coast buds...

Even though its not always possible, the best time to transplant outdoors is when the forecast is for rain the next few days and cool cloudy weather. The stress from direct sunlight on newly transplanted sports is way too much unless you have access to lots of water and the ability to water frequently. Once your frost dates are past look for a good rainy spell coming and go for it. I have had to do all my gardening in the rain before. It sucks and watch your footprints in the mud.

I just take the 5in net pot out of the aerotable. prune the roots back, and stick the 5in pot right into the 5gal potter. i leave the netpot right on... these are inside under a 1000w hps 18-6 light right now. will bring down to 16-8 soon. also been putting them out for a few hours each day to get use to the weather.

I have 2 kinda like these except their 150 gallon and they are round and dont conform to the truck bed, I would mix guano tea and then pour it in the tank and bring it out to the forest and dose them! Looks sweet! peace
