what kind of snowboard/binding/boot do you guys recommend for a novice rider? and what other shit do I need to buy?

hey Mr. Burgundy, what do you think of flow bindings?

Don Dump-Its about functionality and what works for you. Flows are great IMHO, and I am on my third set of bindings.I used to rock Burton Customs, but that sit-and- ratchet shit aint me any more. For the two days I just did, I didn't have to sit to lock in my bindings. At all.

DD - are you into freestyle, freeriding, or a mixture of both. that will have a huge influence on the boards you get. twin tips are best for tricks and switch riding, directional for freeriding, directional twin tip for both. flows are nice, but i have always stuck with the ratchets.

I have some K2 bindings that have ratchets, but are easy in/out. They are pretty solid, but are heavy, which turns some people off

Did someone mention South Lake Tahoe? You got three choices-Sierra, Kirkwood, and or Heavenly. You really can't go wrong with either of them. Heavenly is the largest, with the best view, Kirkwood has the higher base, and the last time I went to Sierra years ago, it was fun. If you can handle a resort with nothing to do locally around the resort-its the Wood. The quality of the pow at the Wood is sick, probably closest thing to Utah conditions in South Lake. Also, Kirkwood on a busy day, you can point it, bomb down, and still practically walk up to Chair 6 everytime. Chair 6 is the Cornice run. SICK!!!! I keep a pass at Heavenly, but if I had a chance to do both, I would get the Double Whammy pass (sugarbowl? and kirkwood) If you do not like big crowds, I would not venture to Heavenly. I can't vouch on Sierra anymore, but its your call.

Food? Aw man, if you get a chance, do breakfast EARLY. Try one of the RED HUT(s). Heidi's is a good bet also, but its crowded usually.

I cannot comment on dinner establishments. You have tons of typical americana favs-but it can be a toss up there. I have two young kids, so we cook more than go out.

Come back standing on your board, not being carried on it (300 Snowboarders)

I usually do only day trips to the north side, but do consider Alpine Meadows has the deepest base around the lake-or so they were saying on Xmas. I don't do squaw. I get enough of stuffy ass skiiers and young punk boarders at Heavenly. I have ridden in other countries and states rather than go to Squaw. I know, KT22 blah blah blah...Sugarbowl has always been fun, and before Homewood was bought by Alpine Meadows, that used to be the best bargain for your buck around the lake. Great scenic views at Homewood-on the front face, you almost feel like you are going to ride to the lake its so close.. I haven't done Northstar yet. One day.

The best thing is, there are so many resorts to choose from. I know you will find one spot that is to your liking, indeed.

Good luck.
