A 13-metre tall straw Christmas goat in the Swedish city of Gavle, which is routinely torched or vandalised, is standing unscathed, so far.
"It's gone very well so far," Maria Wallberg, the official spokeswoman for the Gavlebocken, said on Sunday.
"It's a great Christmas gift for all the people of Gavle and all the fans around the world," she told Swedish Radio.
Wallberg said she was not aware of any attempts to torch the goat this year.
"I think it is due to the fact that we built a higher fence and also had two fences," she said of why the goat was unharmed.
The traditional-style wooden fences used to protect the goat used to be very common at Swedish farms.
Wallberg said that "if all goes well" the goat will stand until January 2 when it will be dismantled. The parts are then transported to a secret location where they are stored.
During its history, the goat has been burned more than 30 times. The first time was on New Year's Eve 1966. It has also been vandalised in past years.
Last year, the giant goat was set on fire just a few hours after the official opening.
"Looks like I got the best Christmas gift ever: company by Santa Claus himself," the Gavle goat tweeted earlier Sunday, the post with a photo showing Santa sitting in front of the fence surrounding the massive straw effigy.
The most recent date that it survived until Christmas Eve without suffering any damage was in 2014.
Over the decades, there has been a series of strange attacks on the goat. In 1983 its legs were destroyed, while in 1976 it was rammed by a car.
A webcam was installed for the first time in 1996 and the goat survived the holiday season.
While the straw creature made it through 2010 unharmed, a plot to kidnap it by helicopter and take it to Stockholm was discovered.
The tradition of erecting a giant version of the traditional Swedish Christmas symbol in a central square in the city dates back to 1966.
While the Yule goat dates back to Norse mythology, it has become a standard part of the contemporary Swedish Christmas celebration.
In 1985 the goat was designated the world's largest straw goat by the Guinness Book of records.

A four-month old girl required 65 stitches to her face, according to her family, after she was dragged from her bed by a raccoon on Wednesday night in a North Philadelphia apartment.
Photos of the baby, named Jourini Black, show what appear to be claw marks all over the right side of her face, including on her right eyelid.
“I thought it was a nightmare when I heard over the phone,” the girl’s father Samuel Black said, according to Fox 29 Philadelphia. “My heart dropped. I didn’t know what to say, what to think.”
The attack reportedly happened whilst the girl’s mother, Ashley Rodgers, was out of the room taking her other daughter to the bathroom. When she returned, she saw the aftermath of the attack. “She was laying on the floor— across the room — blood all over her face and her pjs,” Rodgers told Fox 29.
Rodgers said she had moved in just the day previously, and paid the landlord $375. Neighbors on North 22nd Street have reportedly complained about a raccoon infestation in the area, and Fox 29 reported the landlord had no licence to rent the property.

SLIDELL – A 67-year-old Slidell man who served as a go-between for an international team of scammers running a “Nigerian prince” email scheme has been arrested after an 18-month investigation.
Michael Neu, who is neither Nigerian nor a prince, has been charged with 269 counts of wire fraud and money laundering.
Neu helped shuttle fraudulently obtained money to his co-conspirators, some of whom actually do live in Nigeria, according to the Slidell Police Department.
The ubiquitous scheme, which begins when an email is sent to an unsuspecting recipient the scammers claim has been named as the beneficiary in a will, is designed to collect personal information that is then used to steal money and identities online.
The scheme nets millions of dollars each year, according to the SPD, and is difficult to track since many of the participants operate outside of the United States.
“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said. “Never give out personal information over the phone, through e-mail, cash checks for other individuals, or wire large amounts of money to someone you don’t know. 99.9 percent of the time, it’s a scam.”
Other versions of the scam involve people claiming to represent law enforcement agencies or utility companies.
To avoid identity theft scams like this, always ask for a callback number and verify the identity of the person attempting to collect the information, according to the SPD.

During the shocking false missile attack on Hawaii, traffic to porn sites from the state went completely limp — but quickly stiffened again after the false alarm was revealed, according to the porn website Pornhub.
Pornhub examined the traffic on its site from the time the first alert was issued, at 8:07 a.m. on Saturday, and found that in the 20 minutes following the alert, traffic slumped a massive 77% from its normal level, reaching its nadir 15 minutes after the alert. Yet after the alert, at 8:45 a.m. that the first text had been a false alarm, things changed rapidly; traffic skyrocketed 48% higher than normal levels, with the apex coming at 9:01 a.m.
The Daily Mail commented that the peak traffic occurring 15 minutes after the second announcement was issued rose because that gave “people time to return to their homes (and, apparently, their computers) after seeking shelter.”
Pornhub has stated that only 1% of its viewers watched the site on a mobile device in 2007, but by May 2017, 75% of viewers tuned in on a mobile device.
Yet In 2007, Pornhub visitors spent an average of 13 minutes on the site, viewing a total of 14 pages. But in 2017, PornHub visitors spent nine minutes viewing only nine pages.
