Planty-

Appreciate the nice words man, I look up to all you guys out there, have many friends in your neck of the woods and brought the knowledge I've learned from them and from Icmag here to the Rockies. The G-House enables me to do it...

Most folks here are stuck with the mindset of "you can't do that here bro" Watch me....!! lol

The planters are 2x4 hole welded wire frames with spun gray landscape fabric for covers. The center row, under the tallest peak of the G-House (15') are around 300 gallon but two different shapes. A couple are wider and a couple are deeper. Just wanted to experiment...

On the edges with less height (9') I made 200 gallon planters about 5' wide and 16" deep give or take, it will be tough to manage the plants as they get tall, I'm just trying to maximize the space I have. My Chem D and Skunks will take up the sides while my biggest C99 crosses will have the headroom in the middle. The Screme'n Dawgs will be placed according to whether they favor the Chem or the Strawberry in growth structure....so far they are very obvious in phenos...

I plan on mulching the rows outside the pots with my Alfalfa Compost as the roots outgrow the pots, as for the planters, I'm not sure yet. I may fool around trying it out with a few. Have you had good results mulching your planters? We don't have gophers but mice/voles suck out here and they LOVE to get into mulched beds. I have 6 cats but they won't be able to get in the g-house after I put up the chicken wire...

As for irrigating, I'll hand water with my tea (gravity from the tanks) and am setting up drip lines for regular waterings...1/4" soaker lines with holes every 6". Running it with a pressure regulator and filter. Will have separate lines for watering planters and watering "the bed" beneath...

I guess I'm trying a few different things with this new set-up to see what works best and then going from there----it has been a huge undertaking as I am a "one man show" so advice is always welcome....

Wish me luck!

Hey Nomaad-

Looking at the weather this week, which changes hourly at the moment, I think I'm looking at Wed. to get started. Was hoping tomorrow but I don't want them to have 5 solid days of gray. That gives me 2-3 days of mostly/partly cloudy for hardening off. At this point, they are getting HUGE and I'd rather have em out than inside getting cramped and rootbound. I can run my lighting all day for a little extra boost if needed during abnormal cloudy days. This year is very strange, we're used to 300 days of FULL sun here and it is just taking it's time getting here this Spring...

I'll be maintaining 15.5 hours of light until June 1 either way...

You still looking at next weekend to get your long and tall ladies out?

Best regards-
:tiphat:

Spent the last week building planters, filling and mixing. Took about 3 days of actual time spread out amongst the week's chores. I must say it kicked my ass.....was going to use a concrete mixer but it never happened so I'm a bit sore this morning! Ganja D---where were ya when I needed ya?! Does Humboldtlocal rent you out???!!!! :)

I saw your tanks for your tea...very nice. are you going to brew in those tanks? if so what designs are you going to implement? are you planning on diluting brewed teas in the tanks? I'm going with the simplicitea microbulator , its a 55 gallon brewer ... I am planning on putting 50 gallons of tea in to my 2500 gallon tank and doing undiluted compost tea foliar sprays....whats your plan for your teas and what are you going to use to make your tea? I'm going with kelpak(cold pressed kelp), organic gem(cold pressed fish), worm castings, activated fungal compost, yucca for my tea.

Hey Bro... just read elsewhere that you are planting tomorrow... not waiting for the planting moon in 5 days? I'd like to hear your opinion on this.

Nomaad, woke up to snow this morning so looks like tomorrow..

My take: I began farming and followed Steiner's methodology and the Biodynamic calendar for a number of years. After managing 126 acres of fruit trees for 3 years and working on numerous farms from branding cattle to harvesting organic salad greens, to pressing cider full time, I learned probably the most important and valuable lesson there is in farming:

Get your work done in the window you are given, not the window you are waiting for.

I can't tell you how many times we waited around for that darn calendar to tell us the day to do something only to miss the window due to weather, a broken machine, etc....only to be caught thinking,"YEP, could have been done with this a couple days ago." You get the idea. Don't get me wrong bro, I believe in many unseen forces that work with us, it's just that when it comes to what I have experienced, you get shit done when you can. Use those calendars as a guideline but don't let it hold you back...hope that makes sense bro....

I understand perfectly Rootwise... this is precisely the argument I have been having with myself. Thanks for the input.
