PA/NJ/DE GROWERS UNITE!

Late 90's in a fog of Haze going up and down the Turnpike back and forth heavy with the Pif mostly taking orders for others while scraping a few Z's for free. One of my connects told me that he was finally about to go upstate NY with a crew of 4 and was going to Grow the Pif, I froze dumbfounded, in complete shock i thought "The Pif can be Grown in a house?!?!?!" and "IN the the USA" whooa I had long believed the hype/myth that the Haze/Pif came from Brazil/Amsterdam/Hawaii allways a far off locale, so the even hear that it could be grown indoors was a complete shock to say the least. His point in telling me is that he wanted me to be one of his first outlets for their crop at a wonderful ticket of $3000 lb compared to the $5,600-6,200 we were used to I told him I would be patiently waiting. After 4 months of no word he called to say he was back uptown scraping things together after almost losing everything, Their adventure turned up Super Schwag that belongs underneath the garbage. I came to the thought of if he could try why cant we, I had an older friend who told me to take a closet line it with tin foil put 4 long flouros in the corners of the closet, get some dirt and fill up some pots and pop the seeds I learned how to pop the seeds from HT everything else was a disaster no knowledge of PH my old friend told me to water the plants with warm to hot water, and the plants grow best in temps above 100degrees because they like tropical climates and I vegged for 2 months and then after I thought it is time to flower guess what they died from of a multitude of in competences. But hey you have to start somewhere, First 3 harvest were terrible but I never wanted to quit. I have been through fake genetics where someone says "These seeds were handed directly to me by DJ Short in the Dam during the Cup" and then you grow them out and they are complete schwag with no remote resemblance to Blueberry lol Or how about "You can make the plant any strain you want if you want it to be a Haze you have to make the room Tropical, If you want NL it has to be cold, seeds are seeds; they dont know what strain they are until they are grown out" lol

Oh the days of DOOOOOH over-amending the soil with everything lol too much ewc- too much fert- too much heat - Not filtering outdoor air coming in-NO Odor control-using bulbs until they went out-using Home Depot bulbs-Reusing Soil-Not Neem Oiling new Clones and having Spider Mites infest everything-Believing everything I read in HT-Terrible Products that dont work-235 PPM's out the tap-Not knowing how to stake plants and they would just fall over and snap and then I said "OH"

Thank the heavens for Jorge Cervantes Indoor Growing Bible that truly saved the day I read it 4 times and still check back with it Jorge never goes wrong and allways has a multitude of suggestions or methods making him flexible for most every grower Thanks Bro.

Hi Guys! Lots of good stories. I think it's great that we have a place to visit where we can get straight answers to our questions or just browse around and soak up the knowledge posted by some of the best growers in the world. I'm proud to be a member here.

Now for an update. Have a few pics that I snapped yesterday. Buds are starting to form. Things are looking good.

Now my mums are a different story. They're all dead. Victim of spider mites. I'm looking to replace my bubba, but I've did manage to take cuts from the sssdh, straw D, OG Kush S1's and Double D. Been over a week and no roots. Oh well, I just started 5 LUI's and 5 SkunkXHaze. I'll snap a few pics of those in a few. L8r.

hey all

funny starter stories. i have two more. i was told this from some friends.

to get a female plant, it's the way you cut the plant from the beginning, you have to trim it a certain way for it to become female, otherwise it will become male.

also, most commercial growers add a few tsp of gasoline into the soil to give the herb a boost in potency. yeah i wonder where that came from (diesel?) lol.

back to some information

as far as neem oil, i'd really want to remind people to try the stylet oil. http://www.stylet-oil.com/ it's way higher refined than neem (which i think is 70%), and doesn't burn if you've had problems before with neem burning some of your plants. it also zaps all types of spore based baddies (mold, pm) and spider mites, scales, etc. i'm surprised nobody has used it yet, can't find any information on it anywhere. if you search google, you can find it sold by the gallon. just follow the ornamental instructions that come with it for proper mixing.

on the topic of moms - especially soil based moms - i can't say how much i love the osmocote 14-14-14 "Vegetable & Bedding" time release fert for mom revival. my mom was looking totally ill these past couple weeks. it had used up all of the MG nutrients that were in the soil over the past month and a half. some yellow crunchy leaves, some spots on them (like banana peel looking) just very weak. she's bonsai style, only 6 inches tall in a 6 inch pot. sprinkle one tsp of osmocote pellets, threw some fresh soil ontop of the pellets just to cover them over lightly, water in. one week later, she's like as fresh as a just picked head of lettuce. all green and standing tall again, new leaves coming out everywhere. i know people frown on time release, but it's only 4 month release, and if its a mom, you aren't going to be flowering it anytime soon. and you can use just tap water each time you water. the osmocote does the rest. and it releases just enough of nute that the plant needs based on temp, and never enough to burn the foliage. (osmosis or something, OSMOcote) if you have to flower it, just carefully scrape back the soil and scoop up the pellets. you can get osmocote 14-14-14 at home depot.

i've seen it bring back a mom that was just a burnt looking wooden stick with crunchy dead leaves hanging off it on all branches. that was some early experiments, lol. this mom then went on to live a full additional year before it was replaced with a fresh clone.

Hi Wine Man.....

I would guess that Philly only neems clones he may get from a friend, ie from somewhere outside of his own garden. Likely trying to avoid the introduction of outside influences into his garden, as he also talks about filtering air going INTO his garden (lab condition type stuff)

nice pics mike!

cold? only at night! wasn't it like 68 just the other day? now back to 30s.

oh yeah, lunar eclipse tonight! starting about 9pm.

last night the moon was out and bright. a full moon.

hopefully this will trigger the next bloom-stage burst on my girl and we can work on finishing her up over the next 27 days. she still looks so skinny compared to you guys mostly indica girls. she probably looks like a day 25-30 indica, and she's on day 53!

i always notice bloom bursts before and after full moon though, maybe something to do with the gravitational pull on the earth. the moon must have some type of effect on the way the plant pulls up water from the soil. gravitational influence and what stage in development it is it at. the moon cycle hoopla.

i bet most of you see will see or have seen some type of noticeable growth spurt within the last few days or next few days.

moon weed. lol.

Was wonderin where you been Mike. Plants look well loved. Keep it up!
jipedestran: Thanks, so what kinda/size filter is good for air intake?

Vin, I just stretch panty hose over my intake, and double or triple layer it. I attach it with rubberbands and then duct tape. Works well enough for me. I don't use a fan for intake, just for exhaust, creating negative air pressure, which keeps the smell to zero.

Yeah Vin, jipedestran hit the nail on the head I only Neem new clones from outside sources but I also Einstein neem oil everything 1 week before I start flowering just in case.

I do filter incoming air if I use it, one time I was not filtering the air coming in and I got a fully seeded crop, amazing how pollen must travel. You can use anything for intake ie a bathroom vent van run through a small DIY filter, or you really dont need intake I dont use it anymore because now in flowering temps are not really a concern, I filter exhaust air for smell and humidity but because their is no incoming air the exhaust has less force, thus allowing less of my precious CO2 rich air to be dispelled, I know with intake and exhaust on timers in conjuction with CO2 can keep some CO2 in the room but I have found for me it is best to keep alot of CO2 around the gals because they dont need air they need CO2

Money Mike -Sweet Pics bro :headbange

Bake-Sorry to hear about those Spidermites man they truly are the worst! :badday:

I have been lucky so far, I am knocking on wood as I type this. Never had a real insect "problem". Spring and summer when it is warm, fungus gnats tend to bloom, but they do not harm things. If they get bad, I top my soil with sand, maybe 2-2.5 inches and spray with water to harden the sand. I have to switch to bottom watering and that usually kills them off over some time

As far as spider mites go, I think that the environment has something to do with them getting a good foothold. Warm and DRY environments tend to bring them on I believe. My neighbor (an old white haired dude) has a rig in his closet and has been fighting spider mites for over a year. His crops never turn out perfect anyway.....he he he....and I set him up, gave him my lifesaver and mothers finest. 400 watt and he is on Social Security. I don't even go to look at his garden because I don't want to bring them into my place.

WINE MAN I have never used an active intake for any space. My exhaust is so powerful that it creates negative pressure not only in my flowering space, but the room that the flowering space occupies. You can feel the wind being sucked in under the door....

On a side note, I am heading down to the coast next week for some high stakes gambling......I have a full tupperware of Mothers finest trim in the freezer that I am going to run through my scuff box this weekend. Nothing like burning the finest hash in your room before going downstairs to roll them bones. Positive thoughts of Karma please for luck.

peace
