Thanks for sharing Dansbuds and Dubwise. I respect your thoughts and opinions and you taking the time to share them. I am a card holding medical patient/sharer and as such child protective services is not a concern in this county, as long as laws are followed to the T that we follow them.

I see your concern even with a card a child can tell another child whose parents can be rippers or something... I'm thinking up to age 9 or 10 they will brag about daddy having a garden in his closet or something but they have no clue what they are doing because some kids thinks everything their parents do is cool....

It is always a risk. Myself, I dont grow where i live. I do have a 4 year old girl, and a wife. I personally would never put them in that situation, but many do.

An old head friend of mine had always grown in his home, his boys grew up around plants at a young age. Youd find them dragging buckets of water around watering his plants.. They were just helping dad. He smoked in front of his kids, did business in front of his kids, It was a way of life.

His daughter starting coming up and started in school. She slipped up a few times, im sure, telling teachers her daddys smokes green stuff.. whatever.. They start asking questions, and the next thing you know he has counselors calling him, CYS showing up at his house to do a search.. He has since cleaned house, and keeps in business seperate from his personal life. I was lucky enough to have learned through others mistakes, and I hopefully never have to deal with similar situations. I would agree, its all about the kids personalities.

Another guy I know, did about a year in jail for 'manufacturing'. He grounded his step son. His step son got pissed off and called the cops to tell them all about his step dads 'grow op' in the garage.. Protect yourself, and your own. Be safe. IT IS ALWAYS A RISK..

When I was young, my moms boyfriend had that one room in the basement that was locked so I couldn't go in there.. I didn't care. And I sure as hell didnt think "must be marijuana". He told me its his personal stuff. His tools and stuff like that. I was like cool. did really care. Now present day. He knows what I do. But I also know one thing. That room never had a thing in it. I mean some people really dont want kids touching there tools and shit.. Im sure any reason you tell your kid(s) not to go into that room they wont think twice..

Also My one buddy's dad grew in there basement.. Guess he let the cat out of the bag. because almost everyone knew at our school. needless to say, one day when they were away there crop also left the house. Ill never tell my son anything about it. Never. Unless I know he can keep his mouth shut, My business is mine.

Keep the room locked at all times! But if you do mess up and the kid see's it and is young enough to not really know what it is.. hope its spring or summer and get your ass to the local garden store and tell him you had to start the garden inside because of bad weather or something and then plants the garden with him. Then if he ever tells anyone about "this wonderful garden dad had in the house" he will finish it as, and we planted them in the backyard. I mean most people that start there gardens from seed start them inside in jiffy's.

I have two children (ages 6 and 10) and a 400w cabinet in a closet in my home office that I use to grow cannabis. The cannabis that we grow is for personal consumption only; I've never sold as much as a gram. Nobody, including our children, knows we grow, nor do they know we smoke. I wouldn't want to put them in a position where they have to keep my secrets, so I plan to keep the grow secret from them - and when I can't I'll have to shut down until they leave. I think I can keep it secret until the older one is 13 or so - maybe longer; they stay out of my office and it locks.

My son,who is fourteen asked me about my grow,and I was so shocked that I just said nothing for quit some time.Then I told him will talk latter about it,this was a couple of days ago.I honestly thought about shutting everything down.I would never forgive myself if something happened!!!!!!!!!!I did tell him not to say what he may or may not think is going on!I struggle with negative thoughts!I only grow for myself,and don't sell etc.So my setup is small,I don't smoke anywhere around my kids(14&11)Torn down the room before(guilt)Hate to say it,but I would rather be a smoker than a drunk,and I've been both!I'm not a good drunk!PS I love my kids more than life itself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If you take out the legality of the weed,you got nothing.PSS I forgot to add,I live in a Med state,but not med compliant(could be)

basically as soon as a kid can talk, they can get you into trouble - they might just say soemthing innocent like they saw daddy taking watering cans upstairs and somebody could put two and two together.

ive taken great care to keep all smoking and growing away from my kids. my older one probably smells smoke on me now and again and i've told him i smoke the odd cigarette and he knows no more than that.
ive told him the loft is dangerous (flooring and wiring) and he cant get up there anyway and seems to have no curiosity to go there.

so i'll keep growing for as long as i think i can keep it from my kids but i suspect i'll stop in a year or so before the older one gets too savvy.

im sure i could tell him and he'd keep the secret but i wouldn't want him to have the burden of having to keep that secret or the guilt of getting me into trouble if he blabbed.

i personally think thats the safest way, i have no-where i can grow that isnt home and i think that would also bring it's own risks.
what i still need to do is fit a lock on the attic hatch so that i can demostrate that i was the only one with access to the grow if the shit hits the fan. i have no form ( no police record) so hopefully i wouldnt get too much sh1t the first time and that would be it.

It is unfortunate that we live in areas where some see cannabis as evil, and we lie and hide it from others, sad, but true, so most must avoid issue and prosecution....i on the other hand will face it head on, my children only know that it is a part of our whole gardening scheme , it flows and grows with everything else and is only called and considered a normal plant with great uses just like anything else in all our gardens indoor or out......i dont lie I only bend the truth(LOL same thing), they dont need to know the exacts(yet), just the overall picture and that is that our gardens are great for us and our earth, and everything I do is just good ole farming!!!

the best and only thing to do, is to keep it completely secret, if they find out, shut down. it hurts to think that youll have to quit with your meds, but the other alternatives are much worse for you and them. keep the care of the plants on a schedule that excludes the care of your children and make sure to keep deniability. i grow garden plants from seeds in my grow room so i have something to show for if the questions do arise, but still i would chop in a heartbeat and fill the room with inly garden plants if i thought there was questions! that way anyone who wants can take a l;ook and see that im feeding my family.

i have been complicated by my nefew, and i had alot of crap i had to deal with. one thing for sure i would have had a lawyer if i knew how much crap i had gotten. i have had a few minor complications with the law but nothing major till this, my first drug charge. i did 30 days in jail and am currently still paying on my $2200 in fines and 6 month DL Suspension. just something to think about.
if the situation were to arise again i will have a NORML rep Lawyer, only sad thing is they are to damn expensive even with the 3 plants that i was cought with. yes i do have kids in the house and they still don't know what i went to jail for but my nefew had stolen my key and got into the basement to smoke some of his own weed when he snooped around and found my little secret. then he got into some trouble by robbing a gas station after hours and tryed to lessen his sentence by telling on me and he was 19 at the time.

Possesion under 100 gr fine up to $150
Perefonelia misdeminor 4th degree fine up to $250 and maximum jail sentence of 30 days
Criminal Tools (my grow lights and fans) Misdeminor 1st degree fines up to $1000 and maximum jail sentence of 180 days
add court costs to all this and classes books reinstatement fees for my DL Driving privledges etc Cost 30 days $2776 all that for a 1st timer without a lawyer
all penalties are different for each state just google marijuana laws for your state to see what the possible maximum sentence could be for your state and then think about if it's worth it or not. Just my 2 cents and not trying to discourage anyone from growing their own meds, hell i am about to start shop back up so to say.

Homeschooling.

The biggest issues I see are those that come from hiding it... You basically teach your kids it's ok to lie and hide things. Trust me... they know "Something" is going on and that's enough to blow it for them.

Move to a medical state and homeschool your kids. Raise them to be responsible people they should be, not these drone-socialists the schools are cranking out.

One should have this concern as soon as kids can speak because "shit happens" yanno.

Kids are honest to the bone with out any true knowledge of their honesty.A 6 yr old can tell a grown up "your breath smells like a poopy samich" and it's all good,just a kid bein a kid.A grown person says it and peeps get all pissy and an attitude.

My kids are not involved with my garden at all.ONLY because of the laws.It's my battle not theirs so i feel the best thing for me and them is to keep them out of the loop.

I kinda envy those that can share with their kids.Only thing about bein open with your kids about a garden is one must be COMPLETELY honest at that point and teach them that mom an dad could get into biiiiig trouble if someone else found out.
