Critics of any president are quick to blame the commander in chief for things that are totally beyond his or her control. (Of course, presidents and their supporters are equally quick to take credit for things that are beyond their control.) The price of gasoline is a perfect example. Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans took credit for low gasoline prices in 2019 [source: Rainey]. And when George W. Bush was in office, Democrats blamed him for allowing gas prices to rise from $1.45 a gallon on his inauguration day to $4.05 a gallon by June 2008 [source: Thaler].

The truth is that no president — Democrat or Republican, friend of "big oil" or supporter of alternative fuels — can do much of anything to affect the short-term price of oil, and therefore gasoline. The overriding factor that determines the price of oil from day to day is the market principle of supply and demand [source: U.S. Energy Information Administration]. It comes down to simple economics: When demand is greater than supply, prices rise.

The actual price of a barrel of oil is constantly changing, since oil is a commodity that is traded on the futures market. Buying and selling oil futures is called speculating, because you're making trades based on expectations of future supply and demand.

And for a while, demand was skyrocketing. After the Great Recession ended, demand steadily increased as the global economy recovered and kicked back into high gear. To match that demand, U.S. oil production rose dramatically from around 5,000 barrels a day in 2009 to a record high of 13,100 barrels a day in early 2020 [source: Macrotrends]. Thanks in large part to the drilling technology called hydraulic fracturing (or " fracking"), American oil producers were able to keep pace with demand and keep gasoline prices stable.

The COVID-19 pandemic slashed global demand and hit the oil and gas industry hard. One upside of the global oil glut was lower gasoline prices at the pump [source: Associated Press]. But that changed in May 2021, when the Colonial Pipeline system, which moves about 45 percent of the East Coast’s fuel, had to shut down after hackers got into its servers and encrypted its data, demanding money to restore access. (The hackers are thought to be based in Russia.) The shutdown caused increases in gas prices and fuel shortages in some Eastern states. Panicked buying of gas in response to fears about gas shortages only made the problem worse.

How can a product like gas be a viable long term solution when the price is gonna be beyond what many can afford to spend. It makes no sense to raise pricing. All that does is make everyone look for other solutions to that problem. Right now an Electric Truck is looking sweet IMO. How much will it cost to fully charge? Ill bet it's cheaper than petrol.

TCO of electric vehicles are very close to gasoline vehicles
the downsides are the charging process, range and up front cost
those downsides continue to go down, gasoline is going to be replaced
the big automotive makers infrastructure is going electric, gasoline's decline is within view

the electric vehicles will prob last much longer long-term. no heat/friction wearing out engine parts etc. all interstates should be electric roads much as slot car tracks were/are. pull out onto roadway, lower contacts, and relax. that will keep you in your lane too. that plus automatic braking will make interstate travel a breeze. i'm sure there will always be a few competitive types that will want to be able to pull out & pass someone...

With Trucks not only do you have the cargo bed to use you also have a Frunk where the engine would be. They could use that area to make Accidents even safer from front collisions.

You could store a few pounds of Cannabis and discharge some of the energy of the truck's batteries into it.

Create a massive Smoke Ball of Fine Herb.

Could be good PR for Ford.

Better than a Tesla burning into flame. People will just say, "oh well the car is damaged from the accident, might as well just enjoy the smoke".

Heck just make the body panels from compressed sticky bud. Then if they burn it's not a total disaster.

Compressed sticky bud on a steel frame to make it real.

pg&e gives a very steep discount on electric rates if you get an electric vehicle also. You can bundle your whole home's electrical usage into the lower ev rate, for us its .17 cents per kwh which is just about 1/2 what we were paying most hours before.. Pretty cool :)

Kill the US pipeline and put thousands out of work while creating fuel shortages, price hikes and gas lines. Sticking it up the poor folks ass. They will be the most adversely affected by rising fuel prices.

Biden is Putin's Bitch: By Glen Greenwald

https://greenwald.substack.com/p/bid...-permits-a-key

Are you talking about Keystone XL? If so it will not create shortages, price hikes or gas lines and it won't cause fuel prices to rise, at least not in the United States. Now up in Canada maybe those things will happen but probably not. You see, Keystone XL is an expansion to the already existing Keystone pipeline which transports tar sands oil (the world's dirtiest oil) to refineries in the US mid west, the expansion known as keystone XL would allow that oil to get to refineries in the gulf coast region and from there out to the World. It's all to benefit the Canadian company called TC Energy formerly known as TransCanada. Basically we were building a pipeline for them to make it easier to get their dirty fuel to market. In the process of pitching this project they were questioned in Congress and when asked if they would give us preferential pricing if we ever experienced another shortage, in exchange for building this pipeline and letting them use our land, they said no. Like true greedy corporate bastards they wanted to reserve the right to sell it to the highest bidder. Sure about 10,000 welders and other construction workers were put out of work for a while but those jobs would have vanished once the pipeline was complete. If the Republicans in Congress would stop doing everything they can to kill Biden's infrastructure package, there will be millions of jobs created fixing roads, bridges, railways, airports, electrical grid etc.

Sounds like you need to stop just accepting Republican talking points and do a bit of research for yourself. Just type in Keystone pipeline into your favorite search engine you'll get plenty of hits.

The amount of support Trump gave Putin was unprecedented. As you can see they try hard to blame others for Trumps failures.

Here's the Deal.

If Biden said, "Here's the Fucking Deal" -

would he lose all credibility, or would he improve his political standing among Americans who like the F word ?

If you don't know what I'm talking about

Here's the Deal.

Biden uses some phrases a little too often.

He may be overworking "Here's the Deal".

http://heresthedeal.com/

That domain name is already taken.

I bet if Biden smoked Pot, you guys would go easier on him.

You're biased - you're Downright Pro-Cannabis - admit it.

Here's the Deal.
