Anyone Play Poker?

Playing since about 20 years in live games and 10 years online.
I started on ultimabet back in 2000 when there was not so many online players and I could easily score nicely on NL100 to 200 (was making in the 1500$ monthly while playing 4 or 5 hours a day).
Now in 2008, that's a whole different story, pokertrackers have surfaced (I don't use one since I multitable), many more players and always a good proportion of solid players at a table so I can get my ass beat on the same tables as before.
To reach those same 1500$, I guess I should play 8 hours a day on microlimit NL MTT SNGs.

By the way, avoid ultimatebet and absolutepoker (same owners) after a true & very very big scandal that started with absolutepoker involved (type absolutepoker on youtube). Owners of the absolutepoker are friends of a frat', started the poker business, and one or two of them had bigger and bigger "nose" problems, while becoming a "little funny in his head" with money. They had access to a "superuser" account and got busted stupidely while cheating soooo obviously (coke can make your brain run mad)...
How did it get proven ? search youtube for absolute poker (not an hoax)

Pokerstars is solid, safe, with loads of variety and a lot of players but the overall level is quite high (very high I'd say : experienced players and play disciplined which is a key factor). Owners are Israelis based in London. Security is optimum (but let's face it, every site has a superuser account... If you used one, with discipline, just to increase your ROI% to the one of a very solid player, while accepting a bit of variance, it would never get detected : this concerns only high stakes).

Partypoker has good reputation too

Bodog is nice, good design, good customer support, competition is medium soft there, but it's limited to 3 multitables.

Fulltilt is very good as well, payouts are a bit slow at this time which is not good.

...

Oh yes I'm a poker aficionado.

This is how I play:

I always raise big.

I bluff quite often - but not all the time. When I bluff - it's usually after a round of checks - maybe on the turn card. Yeah I got a pair or trips - you wanna front me out then it'll cost ya.

Trick is for me - throw 80% of your shit hands - pre or post flop - I prefer post. However, every now and then when you know the time is right - blag it. Coz everyone by this point thinks you are an honest player - play the cards and all that...and of course most of the time you are playing the cards.

Another thing is, as you know, always understand where someone is in the game i.e small chip count - vulnerable to folding with top pair etc.

It's an alright game but it aint impossible - although it is mysteriois coz it involves people.

It aint nothing on chess say....for knowing your shit..good game nonetheless.

Anyone see that bit on 60 Minutes last night?
Online poker cheats winning millions of $$$$$$$.
It's why I'd never play for real $$$$$ online btw.

Anyway I play on PokerStars.net for free, I always
play 10/20 Limit Hold 'Em ~limit means no 'All-In'
bets. I picked up 13K points this week, bangin!

Online is a fucking scam. I played online for about 2 months and netted a 1000 bucks. I can go to my local game, and win 1000 in a hour or two.

Online poker and live poker are two different games.

I've been off poker for about 4-5 months. Last time a played was in Vegas, at the Venetian. They have a great FREE prime rib buffet on Tuesday nights, in the poker room. Hell, I bet they are having it every night now, Vegas is hurting. I'd stay away to, because the only people there, are the pros.

Back to me, I am going to start running a game at my house again, I used to have a game everyday last summer, then I would go to the local club and play 2-5 till sunrise. Ah yes, POKER. I love it.

I am not a gambler though. I don't play any other "game" in the Casino. Well....maybe a slot or two, for a free drink. Other than that, just Poker. If you have seen the movie Rounders, then I am exactly like the description is in the beginning of the film. I try to win one big bet an hour (250+), and the rest of the time I fold. I fold everything. If I am in the hand, I have already won it, and there is always some "wet behind ears" jackass with three 8s, that wants to test me.

Granted, I don't get huge pots, because I am predictable. However, I don't lose big either.

Yes, chances are you will ultimately loose. But that doesn't mean the game is rigged, at least on poker stars, many people have tested it and it has been shown to be legit (as in the cards are shuffled like in real life)

I have been playing poker for a living for the past year, so far I have won about 75k playing 20 dollar sit n gos every day. Its a lot of fun, but before you jump in you should read some books. I recommend "Dan Harrington on hold em tournament strategy"

Also I wouldn't recommend full tilt, there have been cheaters in the past who could see everyone's cards and the company did nothing about it except close their accounts. Its safe to say there are still cheaters on that site.

Also, its not a good idea for a beginning player to start off in live games. You want about 30 buy ins for tournaments to see if you are a profitable player. The lowest buy ins in las vegas that I know of are about 30+ dollars. You would need a 900 dollar investment to see if you are profitable there, where online the lowest buy ins are 10 cents. You only need 3 dollars online to see if you are a profitable player (although on pokerstars the minimum cash deposit is 25 dollars)

I agree about people shouldnt play real money games tell they get some card time in.. I will try pokerstars out when i get a chance.. Go ahead and post link and ill add it to the top page for other people to choose from.. I haved watched poker stars on tv.. Looks good..

As far a cheaters.. Im not surprised.. Online games always have problems with hackers makin programs.. All we can do is hope the site tries to keep up on those things..

^ Read that first.

Second, search the term "online poker bot" on google.

Third, ask yourself, "Why are there three people from China sitting at my table at 5 p.m. in America?".

Research before you turn your money into digital money and send it to the Isle of Man or to fund some not so stellar countries. Try and find that 60 Minutes episode about the online poker scandal with P0tripper.
