My Buds are TOO DAMN FAT!

My Buds are TOO DAMN FAT!

Or: I've fallen and I can't get up

06:20:34:18 and counting One week to go. Woo hoo!

So I'm playing in the garden and notice my screen frame is out of square. I sraighten it up and ... MY WHOLE DAMN GARDEN FALLS OVER! Yeah, it's funny now but at the time ... It's as though it were constructed with Asian joinery. Where the weight of the structure holds it all in place. Move one thing and it all falls down like a house of cards.

Here's the bottom bud. Laying down on the job. Too damn fat to move. The top about the same.

The spindles are still growing. Some of buds are starting to form spindles out the side.

Trichs nearly all clear with a few amber. Still looking for cloudy.

At 17 weeks of flower, I don't think it will be ready but, I've got another Thunk (@ 7 weeks flowering) ready to go in and I'm tired of smoking oven roasted popcorn.

Less than a week to go! Start Final Jeopardy Theme Song now. :jump:

Poor Wilma has been up all night wondering where you've been!!! Have you been out all night again drinking beer and bowling with Fred? lol ;)

Damn FB the're sure fattening up nicely for ya!!! Have ya started your flush and straight water run yet? Give em a 2 week straight water run and 3-4 days of darkness before ya harvest, it'll do wonders for ya!!! Have the big feeder leaves started to die back yet?

Hey Don,

I'm a water-cure kinda guy so, no flushing for me. I may try the 3-4 days of dark next time. This grow had so many firsts (CMH, ScROG, DWC, Sativa indoors) I'm trying to establish a baseline against which other grows and methods can be compared.

Not too many big fans left. During my "Dialed In" period I allowed pH to be dialed too low and suffered massive yellowing of fans which were then pulled. There's still enough to trim that my hands should get sticky.

I should start researching canna butter. All of my spindle-tops seem largely trich free yet, the scope says there's something there. I've never saved leaf trim etc in the past but, I never had to wait 17 weeks for harvest before either. I've got a clone, flowering for 7-8 weeks, ready to go in which cuts time between harvests to 10 weeks. If I can get this harvest to last long enough, I may be able to allow the next one 20 weeks of flower or more because, at 17, I don't think they're ready, trich-wise.

Never a bad problem when they're falling over  Looks like you got a jungle in there :yoinks:
They are some foxtailing sativa ladies huh? :canabis:

I've never tried a water cured bud before :chin: Never had the heart to submerse my buds in water. Maybe something I should try sometime.

I have a great, easy (and cheap!) way of making canna-butter. Just ask if you need some directions :yummy:

Seems like a very long flowering strain you have there. Must be something special to deserve that long in your garden :rasta:

Best of luck finishong them out and getting your supply :ying:

Hey TM

The water cure started in my SOG days. I rarely had more than enough to last through the next harvest. I could oven dry enough for a week and water cure the rest. To oven dry enough to last through a jar cure would've taken the whole crop leaving nothing to cure in the jars.

I never intended to grow such a long flowering strain but the Sensi Seeds Silver Haze I ordered @ $100+ arrived DOA. 0-16. The Thunks were freebies but, 4-5 sprouted with 2 girls among them. Whew. As anxious as I was at the beginning, this DWC thing has been a breeze.

This is the story of a fridge named Shed. Shed first saw action some 14 years ago, long before I’d heard of the innerwebs. I’d heard of people growing indoors under huge lights but, had no such facilities of my own. Then I met Shed and thought, “What is this, if not a small room? All I need do is find a small enough light” So I searched and I searched til I found a 150, cut some vent holes, jury rigged a simple flood and drain and, for 14 years, that was good enough.

That's the $64,000 question. I'm still learning how to read trichs. I'm not sure what the definition of "cloudy" is.

You can't be serious? :fsu:

Dead serious. I've got tons of clear trichs, several amber trichs and nothing in between. It could be my eyes are old, it could be the plant, at 17 weeks of flower, isn't old enough to go cloudy and the amber I'm seeing is an anomoly but, so far, I'm not seeing cloudy. Or I am and I'm not recognizing it as such.

Here is something I saved off OverGrow a while back:

Hope that helps FB. Try and let that baby mature fully and do a regular dry-and-jar-cure if at all possible IMO!

Hey BB,

Great chart. Thanks. My problem is I'm not seeing anything like example 4 (now THOSE are cloudy. White, creamy, opaque) I've got clear trichs that are clear and I've got clear trichs that are amber. I'm beginning to think that 17 weeks just isn't enough and the amber I'm seeing is the trich version of preflowers.

If this grow lasts long enough to provide a cushion, I may try the jar cure on the next harvest. Truth to tell, I like the smoother, cooler smoke that water cures provide. I'd also like to try out the cooler/sweat cure. The idea of a 2 day cure appeals to me greatly. http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=81975&highlight=sweat

Hey Shodoobie (is that anything like Shaboobie?) I am in fact a geezer. I stare at that face in the mirror as I shave and think ... "Dad? Is that you?"

Farmer John, welcome. Thanks for the kind words. I'll let the next grow go longer. I've got a clone of Wilma ready to go that's been under 12/12 for 7 weeks now. I ran out of stash months ago and I can't take any more oven baked popcorn.

As a matter of fact, today is HARVEST DAY!
T-Minus 00:02:07:03 and counting! When the sun does down, the shears come out! WooHoo!

Long day yesterday, long day tomorrow, or later today ...

Readers Digest Version.

See the needle nose dykes in Shot #1? That's what I used to use to cut my stalks in the days of rockwool with flood and drain. Just shy of an inch in diameter (0.92 actually) Wilma required a bigger tool.

That's an 18 inch ruler in Shot #2. Bundle is approx 22 inches long by 6.5 inches in diameter.

Lol...I think you got them backwards. Shadoobie is my screen name, not Sho-doobie. And yes its from what you're thinking.....Look at me..I'm in tatters..boomp..Shadoobie. I've never had any water cured smoke. Why do you prefer it?

Don't worry about it....I don't even half to look in the mirror....the wife tells me. It looks like you're getting ready to do the happy dance with your harvest. I'm trying to get these clones to root in that daisy thing, so I too can do a happy dance. Post some pics of the buds after they're cured...I'd like to see how they come out.

Congratulations on the harvest FreezerBoy! What an interesting saga this has been so far... both the freezer mods and growing such a strain in a fashion like that... amazing.

Looks like quite a load there. What's the aroma like?

Might you do some more mods to the freezer to bring it back to a stealthy whirr?

Hey Shadoobie. Sorry bout that. Don't worry I'll do it agian cuz im kant spel fur nuphin...

I like the water cure because I smoke like a Vulcan. Weed has a function. Curing is logical; Wet weed doesn't work. Smell, taste and appearance don't affect function; Cultivating them is illogical. Water cure is much quicker (8 days including dry time.) I think it's a cooler smoke. It makes the tool function more easily.

Hey BB,

Thanks for the kind words. I never really figured what it smelled like. It smelled to be sure but, not like "WEED". It was thick, not sweet or citrusy. Musty? Definitely need a scrubber if I keep this strain going. Hopefully I can get some cab time in this weekend. An axial may work now that I have 2X intakes. Remember kids: Panic purchases, power tools and the flu don't mix.

I will say the house smelled strongly of urine as I was trimming. Another reason to save trimming for late night. Had someone knocked, hiding the weed would be easy. That smell? Took a few hours of open windows and fans.

And now for some parting shots of my favorite twisted redhead ...

RIP Wilma. Or is it SIP? The underside. The backside (upside down photo of upside down plant. I wanted to see what she looked like if she could stand) The sad drunken side. Quick, get a camera. Who has a magic marker?

Root Porn! This is why I changed everything. NGB was my intro to DWC and I knew; I had to have it. It was the Spock in me. Knowing DWC and ScROG existed and having the cab I have ... I had to perform a heaterectomy and open rootball airstone surgery to reclaim my tubing. The flash drowned out the "open ribcage" shape the mass is in but, there's a shot of the root ball's deepest darkest interior. That thing was SOLID. I didn't think to measure it but, that's a 5" netpot.

With all the falling over, I thought the buds would weigh more. Very fluffy, it was like picking up a bird. Something that big should weigh more. Couple of shots of the more interesting colas (showing maybe half the total). After curling, most tips submitted. Some stems had one dominant shoot take over, many had several compete. Then the tip would turn back up and end up like a snake shaped club.

Tea time (confession: this ones photoshopped, the flash washed out the "tea") First days waste water. It looks stronger than the nute solution it fed on. Last is technically a nanner shot, I found two a couple of weeks ago and almost panic harvested. Fortunately, this time I didn't have the flu. It's here now because it sparkles well and ...well ... all's well that sparkles well.

:woohoo:
