hey!

DLOC, pic3 is Zamaldelica(Z#1 t8, t9, 10x ,some malawis in back))
testing and schedule her to high density sog.

The perpetual chaos system = flower, mama, clone, outdoor prep.
In this box .
The light schedule is 12on/5,25off/1,5on/5,25off, that is one day.
When 12on is over i place the flowering part in a dark box and they go in again when the next 12on period starts(next day).

so nothing goes f****d up for the flowering clones, the experiment with this short day vegetative cycle is only done with the vegging part.

I can also manipulate the flowering light cycle from 12/12 to 11/13 or even less for individual plants with this system, they can be placed to dark box in any part of 12on period to shorten their day like i want.

ongoing '(micro)selection': 6x zamaldelica, 6x panama, 1(killer)malawi fem, 5 ACE mix, 1 fatty bubba fem, 1 Zamal Hash fem, 3 Purple Haze Thai .
thats the main purpose of this 'system'.

no joke:biggrin:

may i ask why you all use T5 high output / hot5?
They have lower lumen/watt and higher radiant heat output.

@ZZTops, why did you defoliate your plants in this situation?

Yes... Strange, Strange Things are a miss, guess I missed the Action...

rüdiger... I trim all a Shade/Fan Leafs to promote more bud sites and less leafs, under T5's the shade leafs are not needed IMHO...

ay ZZTops,

Lets first take the plant.

The plant is living organism. Living organism has organs.
Plant has(simple): leaves, roots, stem and when she is in generative phase flowers.

The female cannabis plant stores as much energy as possible in her (fan) leaves when she grows(vegetative).
She doesn't do that to make herself green and sexy, no, she bunkers nutrients and sugars for later on.

She keeps this behavior till the first weeks(strain depending) of flowering(generativ).

When the stretch has stopped and the budsites appear, its like a trigger in her. She concentrates the flow of nutrition towards the flowers and slowly but sure depletes the fan leaves of the stored energy, starting from below.

As the energy(nutrients) stored in fan leaves, is much more faster available to the flowers than everything else(its in the plant allready not in your fertilizer bottle), you dont want to take her natural turbochargers off.

Its all about the N(nitrate) cycle in the plant.
And it does not work when you overfeed(N).

So in the end she defoliates herself without any loss of energy!
beautiful, ah?

'under T5's the shade leafs are not needed IMHO...'

this is just wrong. not only 'IMHO'. sorry.

what is your total system watt and what was your highest archieved yield in a full cycle(gramm per watt + time (veg+flower))?

here you can see non defoliated cuttings in a high density sog tray.
the pots are 0,3l, 7x7x8cm. start with 12/12 direct.
20 days total.
This particular strain is flowering ~70days.
I cut out the N part of nutrition in 8 days.

This setup is not about yield. but i want you to think about that:

120cm x 60cm, 7x7 cm : 128 plants fit this box no problem.
If I only yield 2 gram each (256g).....:biggrin:the system power is 168w light +18w ventilation.

It will be more like 5-6g each in this particular case now.

I keep you updated, what i hate is no proof.

:tiphat:rüdiger

and dont take it as offence, feel free to discuss!

these tube cost 2,40€/piece

these evg cost 8€/piece (can be used with all wattages listed)

rest is scrap

T5 fixture for 38,40€ TOTAL (6x28watt, ~15600lm)

you can also build with T5 HO for the same price.

But T5 HE will never burn your plant.

All Philips/Osram. Quality.

diameter of Tl5 HE is 16mm.

I would not even think about using fluoros that are named HOT5.

Growing with flouros is about even distribution of the light, NOT bundle it.

I would use my old T8 again when they could fit this box.

Thats the truth. TL5 HE or T8 is the most effective fluoro tube.

what are ur lumen/watt with HOT5?

I use a variety of bulbs- ZooMed, Quantum, ATI, UVL, Wave Point... sorry was unable to find l/w

BUT, as I mentioned, I am moving to SPYDR600, an led light with up to a 3 x 3 foot print

There's More then One Way to Grow a Plant, That's for Sure...lol

Defoliation is a Hot Subject and to what degree is also Highly Contested. I consider myself in the medium defoliation camp, some take most or all and some just take a few here and there...

I normally run a 4' / 432w / 8 Bulb / HO T5 Fixture and depending on the Strain, Veg Time and Set up I pull 350 grans to 500 grams per run. You know what they say... Pictures or it did not happen..."-)

That said this run will be less as I throw them into Bloom at 33 days from planting the seeds as I'm running low on bud, normally I will veg 60 days from planting seeds. Plus I added another 432w fixture on the back wall just to see if it's worth the time and energy...

hey zz,

thank you for the detailed information!
i sometimes forget the plant count thing...;)

have you done a side by side or grow after grow, defo vs. non defo. with same conditions/strain?

maybe true that defo works better with your style than sog.

the hotlegs sog looks very effective. yield an taste.

Right On rudiger... :tiphat:

Yes... I have done a few Grow after Grows all the same, with this style it improves your harvest weight and size of buds. Now I would not do this much trimming under a 1000w or Outdoors as the plant needs it's shade leafs to protect it's bud sites but with this style it works well...

Slow Smoked 5 hours with Pecan Wood..."-)

R

ay,

I think you can schedule your plants better. They look overfed for my liking(N). I forgot to say that. (mean the bud pics)

But some like it green and some like the golden brown:biggrin:

so lets leave the defo and lamp discussion(i started) out here:tiphat:

Is pecan wood also suited for smoking fish?
has it certain specialities?

Just Love the Pecan because of it's light flavor, not over powering...

Have not smoked fish yet but from what I read it's great with Fish...

ZZTops: Love those nice symmetrical fully-budded plants. Your setup is almost identical to my summer setup: 4' 8 bulb 432w T5HO over a few plants that have been vegged between 5 and 8 weeks. You even use your screen similarly to the way I use mine: More of an LST aide than a serious scrog.

How many grams per watt do you get with those drumsticks? Dry weight, I mean. No fair counting the chicken fat that drips off.

Regarding defoliation: I was long a sceptic, my theory being it's not smart to remove the engine from an automobile to make it go faster by lightening it. And I continue to believe there is a point at which you are cutting off energy supplies. But I have begun modestly to defoliate with good results. Upon flowering after 5-8 weeks of veg, I take off most of the leaf material in the bottom 8" of the plant and try to get the upper leaves that are most seriously shading bud sites on the untested theory that doing so will be a net positive for yield. I have not noticed an affect on yield or quality, but I have not undertaken a controlled experiment. That said, there are other benefits to modest defoliation at the bottoms of the plants: (1) The plants are more accessible for feeding, etc.; (2) The air circulation is better; (3) Harvest is simplified, because a lot of the unproductive material has long been removed.

What I don't know is whether leaves are more of an energy drain or energy supply. I think there is a trade-off, but I don't know where the line is. I just got tired of dealing with popcorn at harvest and got tired of reaching through foliage I would never smoke to water the plants.

I do not believe any significant defoliation would be wise for small plants in a SOG setup. With a small plant, every leaf is more precious, because it represents a much higher % of the plant's energy system.

@ komboloi

intresting thoughts!

In a sog setup, regardless the size of a single budlet plant, no defoliation should ever be done.
When a sog setup is scheduled for maximal yield(talking about a non perpetual high density monoculture) and low maintenance, it is done by controlled Nitrogen cutout in the nutrient solution.
The plant in such a setup will loose all her fan leaves(regardless her size) throughout the flowering phase. All energy that was stored in her leaves, was then transfered to the flowers.

this has nothing to do with starved plants by 'hungerArtists';) their plants get no pk+micros:biggrin:

but i can only talk sog.:tiphat:

ah ill try that pecan with some trout. hehe
