Strange Slime buildup on roots

It is crazy i know!
The reason everyone contracted it is because they all shared the same mother and clone room, ran that way for 10+ yrs until this hit.

This pic is from my friends grow, he is using Zone which allowed him to finish the crop, however at drastically reduced results.
it is not slime, they smell like cucumber, with out the zone they would have been dead long ago.

Here is a recent pic of how the system works... this is my table and not infected, however the system is the same.
top feed recirculating every 4 hrs. rez is under the table and provides complete flush every feed.

The Original bubba cuts that started this were in jiffy pucks, i assumed they were just dying from transit.

I sure hope you can help... to be honest, i had to tell my friends that i give up around 6 months ago, your our last hope! lol

doneit,

Okay, I'm getting a mental picture now and I'm already formulating a plan.

How is your light set up and your ventilation routed?
Are you air cooling the lights?
Are you using A/C?
Are you using CO2?
Are you running a carbon scrubber? What kind of fan is attached?
Are you using any filters for the incoming air?
How big is the room?
What is the hottest temp the room gets up to? Highest humidity too?
Are you oxygenating the rez with an air stone and pump?
What is the hottest temp the rez gets to?

OK...
This is my friends description which is indicative of all the old rooms.
Non air cooled 1k's, each room is air exchanged with hepa filters and scrubbers with 8" vortechs. only runs for a few minutes every few hours during winter
i keep my rooms constant 76 degrees with 50-60% humidity.
This particular room is 12'x20'
The rez's have airstones with major waterfall effect when running... see the pic od the drain setup, it runs hard and fast.
Rez temps are in the 60's

I cant tell you how much i appreciate your help!

doneit,

I seen the message you left to the pic in my forum. That pic is a mild case of root rot. I'm pretty sure you have no slime going on as I first thought. So far it appears you all have the narliest outbreak of pythium (root rot) I've ever heard of thus far, but that does not make it impossible.

Along with the other questions, re the pics with the perlite in cups, when you feed those does the nute water wet that perlite all the way at the top where you see that funk growing?

Yes they would be top fed..
However, those perlite cups were moist from being fed before brought to my friends grow.. that brown shit was not present the day before, it spreads like wild fire!

This is how i know it is airborne, I have spent hundreds of hours researching, reading, experimenting to no avail.
Not to mention the amount cost in products and lost harvests.
This has truly been mind boggling... on the verge of wrist cutting! lol

I have not seen anything like this anywhere.. i have battled pythium, powdery mildew, whitefly's, spidermites, etc over my almost 20yrs.. this problem is on a whole new level...

doneit,

Before we go any further I need you to promise that if I spend my time helping you, that you will follow my instructions to the T. I know when in this type of hair pulling situation, your mind will go wild and it is hard to stick to one plan. It's very difficult! I went nearly mad from 5 years of it, lol.

Since you have several rooms, what I am going to ask you to do is dedicate one room to this plan and the guidance I give you. The room that is good right now, you will leave that one alone and do as you like.

I want you to pick your narliest and nastiest room that you think is the most infected.

You will probably have to buy some equipment if you do not already have your own grow store of extras like I do. Nothing crazy expensive. Filters, fans, pumps, certain nutes, etc.. Things that might be needed depending on how this goes.

Do you have a grow store close by or a place you order from that you can get things from easily?

I have to emphasize again that you have to stay committed and not change anything from the plan to come. Otherwise this will all be done for nothing because any deviation can throw off the methodical ruling out process I will by laying out. Change one thing and you will never know for sure what the problem is and the cursed problem will persist.

What say you?

I am as dedicated as they come RR... I assure you if you are willing to take the time, the least i can do is adhere to your wishes.

I can use my friends room, it is full on diseased as we speak! lol

I have sheds full of equipment if needed.

doneit,

Can you get a really close up shot of the funk on the perlite? If you can take it with white lighting so I can make out the truest color of it. I also want to see how it is patterning itself on the perlite. I need to rule in or rule out other fungi. Does it only grow on the perlite? Have you seen it grow anywhere else like on the trays or near the tray drains?

How about your friend? Can you trust him not to tweak anything?

Is that place convenient to pull everything out of the room, with room to do an intensive cleaning of your grow gear outside of the room, and re-introduce each thing back into the room as it is cleansed?

When you get back, let me know where you get your water. If you get service from a city or county I want to try to look up the most recent water quality report, so I will need to know that too; or, if you want to try to find it if you do not want to reveal too much.

FYI, i'm gonna be firing out questions left and right for a while.

well.. 12 beers later my buddy is optimistic,

as far as cleansing the room it wont be a problem, have already done it a couple times so it will be a walk in the park.
I must tell you that this is not a new game for us, we have been indulged for many yrs, however, we are not arrogant as to not ask for help when needed... if you remember me for who i really am you will know i have ALWAYS serviced the community first, even my newest posts are to help our fellow members achieve the best results possible.
(PM'D my original handle)
I know all that is miniscule, but i think you if any will understand when i ask for help its truly sincere and much appreciated!

I am obviously at a loss in this situation... if you can in any way find a resolution then i am in your debt!

I assure you, we have nothing to loose at your suggestions, by all means bring it on, my bro is excited you are willing to help... thanks again RR

Sorry if im on about it... few beers does that to an old mofo

I am sure plenty of you would like a third option to combat the slime. Check out Snype's thread. He appears to be having success by treating his set up(s) with an antibiotic. The particular one he is using is Erythromycin. Interested, go read his thread and get instructions.

Get rid of “The Slime” aka “Brown Slime Algae” aka “Cyanobacteria”!

Holy moly I stumbled across this... I can only imagine what I would find if I tried. I wasn't joking earlier when I wrote that my tea recipe has been getting bitten all over the place and that the retailers and manufacturers are probably all up on it and the hydro tea idea. Now I really see why my friends told me I should come back to the slime thread and icmag. Anyhow, LOL...

Ready and divided into 4 - 2.5 gal. brews (portions). The tea you are buying is ideal for all hydroponics and DWC system. This is a must in DWC (Deep Water Culture). Takes care of slime algae that is caused by our water suppliers! You should use RO Water for best results in DWC! Instructions included to show you how to brew your own in a 5 gal. bucket with an air stone and aquarium air pump!

Hydroponic problems?
Nikko B. (California) 1/30/2014 3:31 PM
As many DWC hydroponic growers know, algae or slimy residue on your roots is a general no no! I recently noticed that I myself am suffering from this problem. I've heard a lot of good things about tea's and was hesitant to try, but I gave this kit a shot. I honestly cant believe the difference its made to my plants. roots are beautifully white and clean with no issues whatsoever!! i'll definitely be buying more of these 4 brew tea kits. I would even go as far as blessing these guys for this DIY kit!!

hey so the tea would not work for me, I had ph drop so I broke down and broke everything down, like I said I can not get physan 20 so I cant even do step one right. i ended buying hydro sparkle and have only ph'd water and sparkle in my rez atm. richy I have some pictures of the slime really early when it was still pretty clear and roots were not all brown yet, if you want to use them go ahead in my gallery. Also i want you to chack out that mycogrow stuff to replace GW, ZHO, and aquashield all in one product it even has a list of the active bennies fungi.com under "fungi for healthy gardens" section gel form is choice for tea and I still cant wait to hear what that alternate product to physan is or do i just do the erythromycin after this run is done, to kill all anything left, or is the sparkle stuff as good as label claims cause its pretty strong claims, im going to find out anyways cause i gave up on tea this run, but i want to try to make a better brew system so i can actually brew enough.

It seems as if though some people might have some mutants strains of these microbe monsters. You could be one of them.

Early on in the slime club 2007-2008 I wrote about cyanobacteri (which is what the slime realy is) can and does come from water supplies and if you are one of the unlucky, its coming out of your tap water. I can especially see this happening if your water provider gets the water from a near by reservoir.

I started writing about this yesterday in my rot club thread. I'll copy and paste it over here after.

I wouldn't go antibiotics until last resort. The bugs can build resistance to antibiotics and end up worse over time. Snype has documented success at his thread and I'm sure it works. When I mentioned using antibiotics in the slime club thread 2007, I never had to go there because I found two beast slayers; my hydro tea recipe and inline water UV Sterilizing Units.

The microbe mix an fungi.com looks like a really good blend. I'll have to get some and look at it under my microscope.

I haven't use the HydroSparkle myself. It could be good stuff. If you are going to give it a whirl, keep us all updated.

Thanks for the pix. I've been collecting. They come in handy.

yes I think I have it in the tap water too, it happened fast right after getting them into the top feed system, that had a light leak but I don't think that formed it because in the ebb n flow it was not very well covered rez no direct light but it was open basically, when I moved them they had a direct light leak and I didn't see slime it was not till after I added carbo load to rez, and I had normally used bud candy with no problem in that same set up. Also I get my water from the great lakes or my city does, so that could be bad for other people too.
