Awesome thread so far. I am going through the same processes at the same time trying to find an aesthetically pleasing (taste, potency, vapor, color) eliquid with CO2 extract directly out of an extractor. It is stable at room temp, dark in color, and has the consistency of warm mozzerella.

PG works great with minimal separation. but any method of adding vg gives me clumps all over the sides!

Could this be some sort of winterization effect? I'm hoping it is not oil coming out of solution but rather the unnecessary plant mateiral being stripped by the solvent properties of VG?

I am going to try pre-winterizing my oil and then running a batch, I really don't want to add alcohol to the juice at all if necessary.

Does adding alcohol turn PG into PEG?

wow, nice day today.

made, vaped and smoked my first BHO !!!

i have lots of pics so bear with my multiple posts (hate the 5 pic limit Skip imposed )

first off, this is an OUTDOOR process !!! until mentioned otherwise.

anyway,

lets look at all necessary tools. nirvana northern lights popcorn buds already packed into extraction tube in this pic. more on that a little later.

7 gram glass extraction tube, pot holder to hold tube, 7X filtered Liquid Brand Butane, 2 pyrex dishes (one for hot water, one for blasting), 1 oil slick pad and cooking thermometer(really don't need this).



ok, back to the beginning. i packed the 7 gram pyrex glass extraction tube with 6.5 grams of popcorn buds from my recent Nirvana Northern Lights harvest.

next i covered the open end of the tube with mean skreenz silicone mesh screens for filitering. i used a nice hose clamp for holding it in place.




ready to rock with some 7X FILTERED butane




blasting has started



the bottom pyrex glass pan has hot tap water, right around 130°F. throughout the process i dumped and refilled the warm/hot water pan three times. the cold butane cools it down rather quickly. next time i believe i will use my electric griddle on warm

anyway, i blasted 2, 6 oz cans into the top, smaller pyrex pan with a no stick oil pad i bought from amazon (priceless!!!). i blasted directly onto the pad, NO RAZOR BLADES NEEDED!!! butane was running clear when i stopped. i blasted in 30-45 second intervals and then let some butane boil and evaporate off. 2 cans and outdoor purging prolly took around 45 mins to an hour total before i felt comfortable enough that the combustion period was over and we could move indoors.

so now we can MOVE INDOORS

when almost all the butane bubbles are gone and the last few can be rubbed out or razored out. this pad is awesome, you just fold if over on itself and it takes care of bizness.

here's what my bho looked like when i moved indoors




indoors i started on a germination heat pad but that was not working so well so moved directly onto my electric griddle for further butane purging. ran the griddle on warm and maybe up to 140°F. the no stick pad is good up to 500°F so it's great. i can only speak to watching clips of people scrapping with razors and trying to store bho. this oil pad and the smaller one i use later on are needed imo. so is some type of non stick storage device.

finally we move onto a vacuum purge. mine was ok, but i will prolly upgrade to a better system in the future.

i used a handheld foodsaver, with a mason jar sealer and a small no stick oil pad. mason jar was in 130°F water (pictured) and directly on the girddle at around 140°F.

i ran it through several purges, but it turns out it could use more as when it burns there is a little crackling. not bad, but not perfect.

and finally sampling. my only method for concentrates is my lavatube mod with a ru vaped glass globe.

i so want an oil bong with a nail and vapor globe now




holy shit !!! concentrates rock and BHO kills. talk about potent !

this blow the tincture away, but the tincture has it's place for sure

this also blows the dry ice kief away, as mine was definitely not as pure as the bho.

i will be making more of this for sure. Northern Lights packs a punch !!! BAM !!!




oh, btw, i made a couple more e-liquids today. skittles and dreamcicle. they are steeping now, can't wait to try them.

oh and the neopolitan, chocolate covered cherries and hot chocolate turned out great. a little more tweaking. cherry coke and vanilla coke steeping and getting better. also made my own mountain dew, not too bad

oh, i forgot to tell you what i yielded.

first time for me, so i don't know what's good or bad. i got 1.043 grams from 6.5 grams, about 16% return.

works for me, i got so high i had to relax for a while before this lengthy write up.

now back to my glass globe

I've been following your progress for a while and it was nice to find a forum topic that's not full of misleading info from 2010 Haha

Anyways I will post some pics of my oil soon and I'm really curious about post processing techniques. I don't want to start posting topic questions just yet because I still have a lot of learning to do as well.

Im in CA My oil comes straight from a co2 supercritical fluid extractor. It is very dark in color but when you hold it up to the light it's green! It is very lovely as is, but I am always looking for fun things to do with it. making it into shatter, terpene flavoring, different applications really.

I saw you talking up the ruvaped globe a few times and you've sold me. I've been hunting for the penvape answer to straight concentrates. It looks like we are interested in the same things!

Anyways congrats on the awesome looking first run, I'll post some more of my results soon!

having same problem when adding concentrate to 50/50mix. thanx for the tip on the only pg. will have to try that soon.

i recently tried dissolving bho in everclear then mixing with 50/50mix at first i thought it was gonna work then the clumps started to form.

Yeah the only pg works great but you get no vapor out after a deep lung hit. The flavor too is kind of sickly sweet. I havent tried mixing with pre flavored juice or flavoring post mixing yet, but i will soon.

I started my iso winterization of co2 extracted sativa sour d just now.

used 91% because it was on hand, some remnants from tincture making probably about 1.4 g in total.

I forgot to warm the iso first, but I got it dissolved.

ended up with about 35 ml and put it in the freezer. I'll probably give it a full day but we shall see how my patience plays out.

would you mind elaborating about the winterizing? i have heard this term mentioned but don't have a clue what is going on.

and correct in regards to PG and VG. VG provides more visible vapor, PG adds to the flavor and provides a stronger throat hit.

i try to mix my eliquids @ 50/50 (at least thus far) but my THC tincture's are 100% VG

It is the process of stripping the plant materials and waxes that are picked up in the extraction process. It turns it into amber or shatter from what I can tell. I don't really know, I'm super new to concentrates but I think that because my product is a sativa, and run from trim it is probably going to have a lot more waxes and well... non physcoactive stuff in it. Then once it is more glasslike I can get it to mix with both pg and vg separately in relatively high concentrations, and combine the two for the most aesthetically pleasing vapor. I know this is the key for super strong pg tincs, but I want to see to what levels I can saturate vg with it. I am a light medicater personally, but everyone is always like "hurr durr why can I still see after one puff?" I usually tell them to feel free to carry a dab rig, blow torch, and concentrate around with them everywhere they go if they are into that sort of thing, but I'd like to be able to knock them flat once in a while too.

Does your ruvaped globe have a silicon wick taste at all? How do you load/use it? I really want to try one out still.

As best as i can understand all the good stuff goes in the alcohol and doesnt freeze and all the extra stuff goes in the 9% water and is easily filtered out through an unbleached coffee filter. It's lookin pretty good, I want to get some strong alcohol, but in CA 150 proof grain is about the max i can get that I know works in walking distance. I'll check rite aid again for stonger iso.

I think the 601 might work with an adapter I sell for my ego threaded batteries. It is the 510 to m601 adapter for atmos and the like. Not that I would want to underpower it, but depending on the resistance of the heating element it could work. I'm off to check it out!
