AirPots vs regular cups/pots

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Hempy buckets with coco blow away airpots, smartpots, or any other kind of pot. Not even close. I gave my airpots away, as Hempys yield at least twice as much, if not three times, if done right, ie., watered daily to run off to inject fresh oxygen to the mix.[...]

So if somebody is growing with soil and harvesting 650g/m2 he will harvest at least 1300g/m2 when using hempy buckets?

just got rid of a male plant. heres some pics of the roots. vegged for 2 weeks in a 4inch square pot then transplanted into a 6ltr airpot were it had another 2 weeks veg and then 2 weeks of 12/12

dude that is nothing to brag about i transplanted from 4 " pot to 5 gallon and in 2 weeks of veg the 20 liter ( 5 Gallon tote was full of roots already becoming root bound then off to 34 gallon totes )

Bottom line do what works good for you and don;t forget cleanliness
thats is why i went to tote growing so much more cleaner, more soil mass more yield per plant

Do a side by side with them and you will see for yourself. Nothing simpler or more productive. And they are MUCH cheaper. 2 gallons is all you need for 8 to 13 zip plants with decent veg time, although they do get a bit top heavy in two gallon buckets so be careful not to let them tip over.

Love Hempy's! But, was at Blowes some time ago and saw this...

then thought of this.

12L office trashcan and 3 gal. Hempy/airpot Frankenstein (either w/ traditional 3/1 perl./verm. mix). Didn't use the bottom grate, but may do so next time. The "tray" (the bottom of a 5 gal bucket) catches most (but not all) of the medium that falls out the airpot's holes. Also, the anchors are good for replacing the finger screws that come with the airpot (if doing many of them). (Caveat: the threads don't go all the way to the anchor's head and screwing them all the way in makes for a pita to remove.)

Have only used my little hybrid once, in late '11, then took a "sabatical." But, will run them next time.

You don't use soil in Hempy buckets as I'm sure you know, but I know many airpot users use coco, as I did, hence the comparison. If you are looking for yield, soil is obviously not the answer.

I saw pic of a homemade 20m x 2m x 70cm high, or so, smartpot or smart swimming pool one could call it...In the great outdoors and filled with rich compost and amendments and clones of an old school skunk1..Needless to sat it was outperforming any regular pot.. ;) Made me very happy that image did. It is all about how healthy and aerobic the rootzone is. Also how large the rootzone is and how much roots are contained i guess.

Also in my experience with my many moms and dads that get kept for a longer time now that I've had some in 'polyprop shopping bags' acting as smartpots (same fabric with holes added at bottom) The growth was more explosive in the smart pots if I feed up them mom/dad for clones. The rootzone is generally happier but I found that promix made with coir over time made unhappy rootzones in smart or not. Hydroton made a bigger difference to health of moms roots but the happiest were in hydroton and smartpots. More 2cents.. :)

Has anyone tried running a cotton rope throught the soil and letting it wick up the water with these pots?

Another reason I love Air Pots - breaking these things down is easy as hell. That's about 40 or so orange bottom, 5 red, and 16 yellow.

I did a side by side grow with both 3 g smart pots an 3 g grow bags an with my grow the bag did better. They both were treated exactly the same

Sorry, didn't read thread yet.

I just got some airpots and of course my precious tea was wasted through holes. I'm a strong believer in air pruning, and want to make this work. Should I just spiral water from middle to inch away from sides?! What if you just dip the whole pot, and then water? I rely on my microbes staying moist and active. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Are your pots assembled with the correct side up? The "top" has a couple of rows without holes so that it will hold the water while it soaks in, but it's easy to assemble them with the holes on top. When I hand water with mine (normally they run on blumats), the water will very rarely run out the sides until the the plants have hit saturation unless I get really carried away.

Assembled properly. I also water slow with love. I'll just work my way out I guess.

Air Pots Kill in Hydro

Air Pots Kill in Hydro

I admit, I think way outside the box

I bought APs for hydro and damn they worked great in my hydro Halo top feed set up. That combined set up allows me to feed ~ 30 seconds every ~ 30 minutes. You might imagine the growth is explosive

This grow I decided to see how well they would work in my bubbler, where I start seedlings/clones

These are MedMan Silver Skunk seeds that were moved from roots peeking through starter cubes on 3/21 into net pots (pic #1 & 2).

First they went into 3" net pot filled with polished ornamental stones from Dollar Store. Within a few days roots were popping out so I transferred them to 1 L APs, where they are currently (pic # 3): pic taken 4/2. Tallest is now > 6", roots are beginning to peek out of air holes

2 will move into my hot5 tent and top drip where they will be placed inside 4 L APs, side filled with lava rock + large ornamental stones

Hope you follow along
