haha home improvement always used to watch that...but yea im leaning towards a sawzall theres just so much potential for use in other projects...and yea i check for studs i have a 16 inch gap in there..i use a super thin drilllbit and poke holes every half inch or so until i hit a beam...same thing i did to mount lights in the ceiling.

Just thought I would say that Habor feight has cheap tools that will get the job done and if u don't need them after u are done they have a 60 no questions asked return policy.

Home Depot has the most liberal return policy of any store I've ever seen - if money's tight, just buy something there, use it once and take it back - they take anything back.

And electronic studfinders are about $3 there as well - no need to be "finding" studs with a drill, that's a recipe for disaster.

Sawzall is a POWERFUL tool! It's meant to cut when everything else fails. Contractors prefer hole saws or adjustable hole saws because they make a perfect clean cuts; easy to repair.

I prefer an adjustable hole saw. Make sure you test it on another piece of wood to confirm the diameter.

went with the milwaulkee sawzall....things loud it cut a nice hole on one side but im gonna wait till daylight to do the rest...cut out a small chunk first to look for wires and im all good. i saw the hole saw kits at home depot but figured the sawzall was best because i could use it for so much more shit...i need to take her to a bunch of shrubs and crabgrass in my backyard lol....they eat up my weedwhacker but this thing should demolish branches..

I've had great success with a 4" hole drill bit. Never needed to go over 4" because all my ducting is that size. Even with a 1200rpm drill I've gone through solid wood as well as dry wall. Very straight forward. Good luck & happy building.

While your at home de pot. Pick up a cheap circular saw to cut your lumber. Sawzalls are a bitch to use on 2x4's or any lumber for that matter if you want a nice clean cut. I saw you where using a hand saw (that must suck), a circular saw will make you building life alot easier.. Peace

^hey i noticed that...i tried to use the sawzall on a wooden door to make a small hole for the cat to go in/out...but that shit was wobbling and uneven like a bitch! gotta bust out the circular saw for that project.

but for the drywall gypsum or whatever it is...cut through is real nice!

Sawzaw is the tool to use when cutting 2x4s. Just can be very tricky if you don't know how to use it it will shake the wood and not cut. Just YouTube it :blowbubbles:

well i punched four holes....on the last hole i didnt even use the sawzall...the last wall was made of drywall but the archway was made of gypsum. but on the drywall i just use a wall drillbit and cut a bullet pattern then used the handsaw to finish the job.....way easier and way quieter.

now the big question is...what else can i destroy with my sawzall hahaha....i have an apple tree in my garden that is way too Fing big and keeps dumping rotten fruit everywhere....i think she will be the next victim..

2x4 is easy just made sure the guide is right on the wood. If you have space between the guide and the wood, the blade will be all over the place. They also sell wood blades that are a bit sturdier.

Get a Cheap (<$10) hand held keyhole saw. these things go through anything a wall will have. and youll feel wires before you blow through them. Plus you can easily "punch" into the wall with it. Jigsaw or sawzall will be a mess.

I like the hand drywall saws, I drill a series of holes in a pattern for what I'm cutting, and then connect the dots with the saw.

haha the funny thing is...using the drill and handsaw was quieter and easier than using the sawzall.....
