Chad Sexton is such a great drummer.

But at the top of Mt. Badass lies Mr. Buddy Rich. I'd like to see any of the drummers mentioned execute a perfect drum roll with one hand.

Honorable mentions include Mitch Mitchell and Dennis Chambers.

Let me say this about Ringo-
if comparing Ringo as a drummer to other drummers, most times he will loose. Yeah he didn't do big fills or spin his sticks or play a double bass kit. So in that respect a lot of people are quick to say he sucked. But let's think about a couple things- when the fab four "invaded" take note of Ringo's style. While other drummers of the time were limp wristed jazz guys still figuring out how they wanted to play rock, here comes Ringo KILLING his hi hats with a bug open sound. That was a mind blower back then. Made him look so cool that his drum set st that time is arguably the most famous drum set in history.

Also whenever serious musicians get together and speak of drummers, Ringo is always tops. He was the rarest type of drummer you could ever find, one with taste, elegance and class :)

I recall seeing Buddy Rich on TV. Grimacing, tendons bulging, sweat flying, the dude was INTENSE! He was no spring chicken either. Heluva drummer.

OK, maybe he is not the best drummer of the world, but respect to the drummer of Def Leppard. He plays the drums with only one arm!

I won't say "best" because that is far too difficult to quantify, however, AMONG the best?

That's doable.

Among the best I am familiar with...

1. Neil Peart
- Dude...c'mon. Neil Peart is the fucking man. A master technician in a group filled with master technicians.

2. Keith Moon
- Rhythms ALL up in this biatch! He didn't "play" drums, he ATTACKED those motherfuckers!

3. Larry Mullen Jr.
- Martial, melodic, like a waterfall of percussion. This dude isn't simply a time keeper, and he has earned his place among the greats IMO.

4. Alex Van Halen
- Dude is a beast. Certainly among the best ever.

5. John Bonham
- A fucking animal on those drums.

Edit: Shit, forgot about Lars Ulrich. That little c'sucker can lay down the heat as well.

Certainly, there are others, however, these dudes would be a good team to represent the rest.

hell yeah!

oh; and speaking of hell yeah ~vinnie paul

anyway back to rick allen; certainly brings something new to the general concept of 'best' drummer ~keeping up w/ the pros in spite of a grievous injury which obviously serves as a difficult hurdle in said task ~i admire that very much not only him but many dealing w/ similar issues and overcoming

saw them {DL} last time they were in spo & pretty impressive all around

wow ~that is the only pic i have seen of him playing a double bass

also re: bonham i was thinking; if you heard the outtakes you would see just how proficient he actually was then ~lol

interesting too; one of the comments speculates a gate on his snare *maybe so* i would think its more likely the loose reso head per ocheltree

Not too long ago I read where Robert Plant (maybe Jimmy Page) said that they let him use the double bass for one show, he said it was a disaster because Bonham played them with so much intensity that nothing else could be heard.
Hell, many people thought he was playing a double when it was just one!

Yeah- was all proud of his new double bass kit, but they said he was too loud so he could only have one kick. Not sure how taking away a drum from him would make him less loud, but that was their reasoning. Little known fact- in his wood kick drum Bonham would line the inside with aluminum foil to increase projection and volumn. Kinda genius
