Ginger Baker by a mile. Just listen to 'White Room' .He went to Africa to 'study' drum beats.
Keith Moon was the most natural drummer kind of self taught.
I actually think Topper Headon from The Clash is a brilliant drummer.

Have seen Peart, Dunbar, Bonham, Copeland, Ward, Aldridge, Starkey(Zak), Alex Van Halen, Chad Smith and at least a hundred more live over the last 38 years.

I think Terry Bozzio, when touring with Jeff Beck on the SRV/Jeff Beck tour, was #1 that I have witnessed.

Lots of really technical drummers listed, but for an all around, keep the band tight no matter what we play, rock, reggae, blues, swing and jazz - how about Charlie Watts?
