Interesting stuff this.. I have a few projects my self and i found that the plants who show a lot of the genes from mazar i sharif have HUGE seeds like you are talking about. they also have huge dense buds. germ problems, no notice of it. And as you probably already know it the difference between sativa, indica and afgani, small, medium and large.

In this case I am looking forward to the Afghani seeds. Big and beautiful.

Which one of the strains in your opinion have the largest seeds, and most decorative. One thing I have noticed over the years and confirmed with my new digital microscope is that some strains have a seriously artistic trippy looking design on them, and almost like a fingerprint I have found that pattern repeat itself inside individual buds on one node, pretty curious to me but there is alot of cool science behind the seed. I would love to find the biggest most artistic looking seeds for easter egg hunts ;)

Not sure how how decorative they are but I made a couple of hundred F2 Blubonic seeds last year that look like little footballs/cocanuts. These things are huge.

Blubonic you say, I will have to find this and add it to my wish list. I have bought so many seeds in the past six months I am worried that some may age too long before I use them.

I know what you mean, I guess you have to make a priority list when you have so many. I popped some flo seeds a few months ago that I made about 2006 and no problem at all. I do nothing special except keep sealed and cool, dark. When I learn the process of posting pics I will make a comparison shot of Blubonic seeds next to OH x sk1. Amazing difference

Aww sweet I can't wait to see them pics Man... What I did because I am super Anal about stuff is I have some desicant in the bottom of a 5 x 5" Lock Lock tupperware then papertowel over it then all my seed in original packaging then a custom fit 3/4" styrofoam insert on the top for light and into the depths of the fridge she goes. Does this sound like a solid method, fridge to cold?

I noticed that big seeds almost seem like the shell is too "heavy" for the radical to pop thru and it can take a few extra days for the tap root to push it to the surface.

I can only say for sure about how I keep mine, but I think i've seen a thread outlining a method for seed storage like yours. Maybe someone can confirm. I simply keep mine in medicine bottles closed and dark, dry, average temp about mid 50'sF.

I will try to upload some pics of the seeds and a couple of plants I have going, my first attemp to post pics, tomorrow.

my fat seeds always turn into indica leaners when theres variation in phenotypes, don't know why... also perfectly rounded craters are indicators of female in there

I have always like the larger seeds. The larger seeds did not produce better plants then smaller seeds. I did remember getting larger plants in general with leaves that where massive.. especialy the males..

I have some boss hogg seeds that were massive, the leaves are really nice and huge, internode spacing is really short, these are going to be some really quality Chem 4 Bx's

fat seeds = Indica Pheno, Fat Leaves in a hybrid means your hybrid like Anne said leans more to the indica side. I know the seeds you buy generally say X% Sativa X% Indica, however it is still easily possible to have some more dominant Sativas or Indicas in the Mix.

is it possible that seeds with thick shells that are hard to split are the result of a nutrient imbalance, ie. phosphorus deficiency, nitrogen excess, etc etc?

I am not sure but I would almost surmize that the oppisite would be true. just guessing the seed forms from the inside out the shell being the final thing to finish growing I would almost assume that the tougher the casing the better its survival? maybe someone has some info on the subject.
