Dry Ice Hash FTW!!

made 17 g of hash...

I found another way of using no water no solvents to get keif or hash or whatever you want to call it..

I made this by taking 4 mason jars putting them in the freezer filled with pot waited 24 hours then took a spoon and stirred the jars the stuff became really fine like dust then used a screen to filter out larger crap (nylons work fine... I am not picking and hell it's not gonna get smoked anyhow) anyhow took a nylon covered the lid shook the crap outta it for a few mins then scrapped up the rest... very sim to sry ice but I used no ice just frozen weed in a mason jar which keeps it ice cold for a good 4 mins+

yeah, I too was referring to making dry sift to inhale when a quality high (with impact, potency, purity and altitude) is your aim, dry sifting for maximum yield extraction, of course, is another story.

anyway, must go, my super model is calling (lol, I wish!)

Well, it's a couple weeks later than I intended, but I just ran the chop from my first attempt using a 70 mic bag and went up to a 110.. I got another 3 grams roughly out of the 3 z of older chop. Then, I did an ounce of higher quality, much fresher chop and used the 110 mic bag.. after looking at it under a scope, I can see that it's majority trichs and an acceptable amount of 'other' produce. After doing the first sift on that ounce, I looked at the chop as well under the scope.. it's still showing a fair amount of trichs on the larger chunks, so I'm gonna give it another shake. I got 3 grams out of the ounce of fresher chop. I know it's not the Nirvana of purity, but I'll take it over risking the dangers of doing BHO extractions. This definitely is going to be my normal method of processing of my chop from here on out. I've got 5 more chunks of dry ice and about 4 more ounces of chop to process!.. this is gonna be fun..

You need to go to a class for this? I'm sure it will be worth while and I'm sure you'll learn a lot. It's very easy tho.. even a dope like me can do it!

I know, its more of a novelty. It will be super nice to show up with a garbage bag and leave with hash... just kind of like going out to eat... no mess to clean up ;) It will be a nice networking opportunity and will be cool to see all that hash processed and I'm sure sample it up ;) I think its worth 20 bucks. I did want to document it so people could see what this "class" was offering. They seem like a chill group so I'm checkin' it out~

I just got done playing with my dry ice and chop. This chop had a lot of popcorn size lower buds as well as normal trim. Out of about 5 ounces of chop, I got a little over 1/2 ounce of hash. 2 ounces of it was a mixture of stuff. The other 3 ounces was from some Warlock that I've harvested over the past couple weeks. It has a very sweet candy smell and that's just the way the hash smells.. (guess what.. I'm not sharin any of that one). So fun, so easy.. and very effective..

I have been making the dry ice a few times now.. it's great... I have also used just mason jars.. put in freezer for 2 days with weed in it.. then crush all the stuff to a powder and shake with a bubble bag.. the mason jar keeps it cold for about 4 mins..

no dry ice needed... or ice.. longer you freeze the stuff in the jar the more brittle it becomes..

got some filter bags of ebay for $5.50 each works well

See the issue with dry ice sifting is excessive agitation. the thought of putting pounds of dry ice in with frozen material make's me Leary. due to the amount of force being used to extract the heads(dry ice pounding up n down up n down). also Ive never seen dry ice hash come out to a 1/2 melt or even a 1/4 melt hash. unless some one can pm me or post some pics of melty heads maybe even a video?

this hasH was sifted with a 40 dollar grinder with a 120micron screen in it. I ONLY SIFT DURING THE WINTER!!!!!

We looked at the sift under a scope on the sheet of glass.... it was unbelievably pristine. Try it yourself! It looked like perfect crystals in a cavern. And this was my sift I studied, I was shaking it for all it was worth because I'm just going for medibles material, and even at that is sure was purrrdy. I have one little pic from my phone cause some guys were pushing the envelope already by asking the instructor to film the class. I'm not trying to challenge anything, I don't really care about that anyway. Just letting you know the crystals were gorgeous and I couldn't wait to smoke the sh!t out of 'em :) Not destroyed or "smashed" looking in the least. ~mgd

Thanks for posting the results of the 'class'.. I'm curious about the size of the mesh on the bag you used.. I've looked at mine under an 80 power scope and it's just crystals.. very little plant matter. My main issue is I don't know when one should stop shaking.. I guess next time I do it, I'll just put all the chop in a container and hold it till I'm done and then do it again and take another look at it under the scope. I really don't care about the meltability of it at all.. I'm strictly a recreational smoker, so as long as it turns the handle, I'm good with it..

I use a KangaCan 1 gallon 185 micron hopper myself.......

Like to use dry ice 'pellets' (yet to attempt powdering them and trying it), with a 1/4 can full of material and maybe two handfuls of pellets. I use a 3x4ft glass base and start my shaking at one end moving along as I see colour changes. It usually gives me 3 grades when done if timed right.

It's not perfect, but it does my body good !!

We used pellets, (my wuss ass didn't even need gloves) and I noticed the pellets were long skinny rods of sort, with soft rounded ends. Crushing up your own dry ice is messy, one more un needed step in the process, and potentially not as safe. The pellets came in a plastic bag with handles that made it easy to deal with. I think that one of the "tricks" I remember was not to use too much ice. Maybe this is a solution for those feeling like they are crushing their crystals. I was planning on filling the bucket half way or something, I only did about 3 oz. I didn't weigh my results exactly, but I got about 10 grams of blonde sift and another 5 grams of slightly darker sift.

I walked in with a giant bag of trim, and left with a giant bag of trim, and also left with as much sift as I expected out of the whole damn giant bag of trim. too funny... I don't see how its getting dubbed as hash tho... anyone?

I think I was using a 70 micron screen.

Interesting.. one of the local hash gurus sez that a 70 micron bag is too fine and we're leaving a lot behind. After doing my last batch in a 120 mic bag and have to agree with him. When scoping the sift, I could see that it was still resin heads and stems and very little vegetable matter. After it sits in a sealed ziplock for a few days, it becomes quite malleable and sticky. I think (I hate to do that because someone will come along and tell me I'm wrong) the dry ice has a tendency to dehydrate the resin a little and sitting in a sealed bag causes it to rehydrate some. I took one of my 7 gram bags and mushed it all into approximately 1 gram balls... I plan on using them for stocking stuffers for my smoker friends. And as to why call it hash? Well, it is hash.. it's resin glands that have been separated from the plant matter as best as possible with the method and then decompressed into a solid matter.. This stuff takes me back to the 70s when we used to be able to get good hash when the only weed available to us was bail weed. It tastes the same as that stuff did. We were always told back then that the hash was coming from Lebanon and Morocco. There's many variations of compacted resin, processed in a variety of ways.. and it's all 'hash' in my eyes.. Now all I gotta do is get myself a good hash pipe.. BTW.. the type of dry ice I used was 'soft' dry ice that the welding supply house makes for me as I wait. It's not as hard as the 'compressed' dry ice, so it seems quite well suited for this use. It's the consistency of a packed snow ball.. speaking of which.. anyone looked at what's coming toward the east coast!?

I've found that subsequent runs of the same batch (meaning switching mesh sizes) might get slightly damp from picking up condensation- I avoid immediately sealing the product airtight.

Don't seal air tight until dry!

My second run I made a huge mistake doing this and that batch molded. It was very sad. I don't take risks for health, it went into the compost pile.

This method causes the hash to pick up condensation. This is also why I think some people claim higher weight then others. Personally, I let it dry for 3 days, stirring it 2-3 times per day.

This whole debate on if this is hash or not is funny. Hash = the resin extracted. That's what this method does, and it does it quite well. Frankly, I think it is superior to 99% of the available iOS hash.

Old school hashers used to extract with sheets and beating the buds with sticks! Lol. it's still being done this way today!

There is no magic here folks. If you get the trichomes off of the green plant matter you get it off. There isn't some chemical conversion here or anything. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this is probably superior to water hash as it leaves more turpins.

FYI. In my experience the size of the bag has little todo with the quality. Quality seems to more directly related to time (like the best is extracted in the first 90 seconds) and how hard you shake (shake soft in those first 90 seconds and you will get some extreamly blond goodness). I use either a 180 or 220 bag.
