as for the how and why in my case

how..made the mistake of showing this fucker the harvest...next day i go eat lunch and when i come back my front door was left open and everything gone...deadbolt smashed right through the crappy wooden jam

why..obvious, he saw a prime opportunity to make some quick cash..he envied the shit out of what i had going, a sick ass house in the country, what he didnt see was all the hard work i had to put into to get that far...all the risk i took in order to make it. Fuckin piece of shit...its my own fault though for showing off like a fool

WOn't happen again, will it???

That dog or any, do not bother me unless an owner is on the other end of a lead, i have had every loose police dog do as i tell it, scream at it, COME ON, COME, TELL IT TO SIT,as long as he's not there, it works. Try it.

Would hesitate at your though:)

good call on the fake outs. cameras and adt signs etc. i also use alarms on all my windows and doors. theyre battery powered and you just stick them on with double stick tape and some screws. once the plane is broken it makes crazy loud noise. cheap and effective.

i also take 1x2" boards and wedge them in the window frame so the window cant be opened. then i take a sheet of plywood over the entire window and screw it into the frame. on the inside i also make a 2x4" X frame to give it extra strength.

dogs? not always such a good call... a buddy of mine got robbed good years ago. had a TRAINED pit. and i guess all it took was lunch meat to get through that obstacle.

I agree with this 100%, BUT it depends how often the dog is trained though & how it is done, some decoys & handlers will work that scenario into their training. However, you can learn a few key words in french, dutch, and german & you won't even need to scream ;)

For those who suggest the OP get stickers to prevent the rippers coming back.... stickers?... Did you smoke your breakfast? Burglars are like a box of chocolates, they never know what their gonna get. Rippers dont have this problem, and stickers will not prevent their return.

A dogs only gonna work if they are unfamiliar with your ripper (who i assume was a friend before, and on friendly terms with your pooch).

As for that auto-pepper-spray-er... cool gadget.. kinda... So do you hire serv-pro to come clean up after that fucker goes off? The thing seems too impractical to use... on second though.. can i rig it with bear spray?

[dream sequence]Front door opens revealing a 3ft wide 10ft long hallway leading to the real entrance. hallway lined with 'warning' and 'imminent danger' signs and 10 or so bear spray rigged auto-pepper-spray-ers. I Hope you like spicy! [/dream sequence]

My favourite always leave an axe in site in a porch where they can see it, will make them think what kind of person you are. And dogs do the job, like someone above said walk them regularly so everyone knows about them. Some people are afraid of mine they walk across the road when approaching my house.

WOW... Great idea!!! give them an AXE to cut your walls down... Sound advice!

I don't have a huge grow, but there are a few people that know "good people but you never know" And i live in the hood.

- Alarm system on ever window and door and stickers everywhere! and a few lawn sings.
- House came with big heavvy wood doors with a thin metal layer " got lucky there"
- 1 med size dog "pretty intense still" and a small super protective little dog with a big voice. Again Signs on both back and front.
- Gates in the back and front Padlocked
- Motion lights in back yard
- locked door on grow room
- 40$ Air-soft Handgun "80% metal looks 100% legit"
- pepper spray "beside the Ladys side" / bat next to bed
- 35$ a month GYM membership :bat:
- Great relationship with neighbors "be as friendly as possible!!!
I shovel there walks every now and then, and help out when i can.
- Phone beside the bed at all times.

All and all this is what I do to keep my house safe, and to be honest. This is what I would do even if i did now grow. I like sleeping well at night. I should also say, I am in Canada and the city I am in does not have many guns. That's never really a big issue.

Ive had some nice big SCARY pitbulls but that guy looks like he has been juicing. Looks like he has so much muscle that he can't walk right. I had a nice 80lb pound male who could get over a 6 foot privacy fence if he wanted to. We used to have him do it every once in a while just so people were aware not to mess with our house.

Dogs are great but the best way to start is to look and see if your house is inviting criminals. Sometimes we try to work under the cover of darkness that backfires. Make sure you have plenty of night lights and motion detector lights at your house. People trying to break into your place won't like well lit areas with high visibility. Make sure your are not advertising your patterns either. Don't just leave the living room light on when your up, or only turn on the porch light when you leave for the night. My next thing is to buy a third car at the house to use so there is ALWAYS one car in the driveway and not the same one.

At a previous house I had someone break off a weak porch board and get under the deck and into a easy window. Go around the house yourself and try to "break in". Do it completely sober and then completely fucked up to get different views. Be friendly and talk to the people who live close so they know who you are and who you have over. Watchful eyes help out a ton.

My MOTHER got ripped, so don't think it can't/won't happen to you. Be overprotected.

She lost some amazing genetics and her stash.

She was the picture perfect grower, never making a single amateur mistake. Been doing it for over 30 years. She has her shit together, and still lost it all to rippers. She wasn't even growing huge numbers or anything, just for personal use.

BE. OVER. PREPARED. cameras, dogs, motion sensors, cell phone notifications, the whole deal.

Man, I'm assuming you all live in the states, maybe Vancouver or Toronto.

I could leave my door open all night if i wanted too " have many times " Would hate to live somewhere that getting robbed was on my mind all the time.

If someone is targeting you specifically, and they're motivated, it can be very hard to stop them short of having someone at the house 24/7

Protecting against random break ins is easier, you just have to make your house look like one of the harder targets on the block.
Like others said, alarm signs, big scary dog that barks at everything, etc....
Bars on the windows, and a fortified door will stop pretty much everyone, except that one motivated guy coming specifically for you, especially if you're in the country where they can be a little louder about getting in.

Well, make an example of your "friend". Disappear him. Take him on a tour of a local pig farm. Bring popcorn and beers.
Works for me.

like a few have said dogs rarely deter burglars especially if they knw theirs a crop inside, only time dogs work is when you hve a pack of dogs, no amount of shouting will stop a pack of trained dogs, their just like humans, i.e braver when in a group. but unfortunately most people dnt have the room but as you stated you live in a big country house then thats your solution. either breed a pair of rockys and raise the whole litter as a pack or jst look in the classified adds for someone selling puppies n buy the lot.. trust me no burglar will even attempt to set foot on your property with say 6 rottwilers patrolling freely! all the best n try n stay safe.... c

Best advice is Loose lips sink ships. They wont break in to rip it off if they don't know its there. Big ego"s and long term growing don't mix.
