i havent "filed" taxes in about 15 yrs??

should i deal w/ this or just let it slide?

ive always worked full time, and always make really good money, and they always takeout payroll taxes, but i don't file anymore.

i quit filing when they started taking my refund to pay for a student loan.

the student loan has been paid off many many yrs ago now.

should i get this squared away, and if so how?

i doubt i'd get any refund.....i claim 3 on my w2 so it usually came out even.

If they haven't contacted you, then you don't owe them any money. If you did, they'd be all over your a$$....................ask me how I know.

You will need those returns to show when you buy a house, the days of a "no doc" loan are pretty much over.
You also need them for other stuff too.

I'd go in for a consult with a good tax attorney in your area and go with what he says for getting things squared away and current.

Dude hope you don't owe them any money over those years the penalties and interest is gonna put you in the poor house. Take care of it now before they raid you like Willie Nelson.

man i would be asking an accountant that question. also i read some place that the i.r.s. can't go back more than 7 years if you NEVER contact them. i.e. no matter what they say don't even think about writing or calling them back unless you do it through a lawyer. it's like a vampire, you have to invite them in and THEN you are screwed.

That's right, I forgot about that.
They tack on unbelievable interest and penalties, often times far greater then the total of back taxes you owe.

Bullshit I know about this also they can 7 years or it might be 10 now just because they don't contact you does not mean shit. If you have worked jobs that reported your income to the IRS it will eventually catch up to you.

Just do it. I hadn't filed taxes for nearly 4 years and it was always playing on my mind, wondering if I'd ever get caught up in a shitstorm with the tax department for tax evasion or something (which is a fairly serious CRIME and you can go to JAIL for it!) and unlike your cannabis growing there are plenty of papertrails that you've left, and "i just couldnt be bothered" or "i just didnt want to pay tax" don't hold up as excuses for not paying the tax you should've, regardless of whether or not the tax department have ever contacted you.

So I got my shit together, went to an accountant, and a few hundred dollars later I've now got nothing to worry about, my mind is at ease at last and I can sleep peacefully at night knowing that I've got zero issues with the tax department. Clearly it's also playing on your mind or you wouldn't have posted this thread, but the solution is so simple - just see an accountant and get it over and done with, it really is that easy.

I just ended a ten year hiatus from paying taxes. I moved to another state a while back and had to get a legitimate job. If your married, get your old lady to get financed for the a loan on a piece of property. That's what we did, my names not on the loan.
And we got almost 12G's in tax returns from uncle Sam last year. Got his punk ass!!!

no tax evasion here tho....they get my tax money thru my payroll...so im not hiding out....i just dont square up every year ....and i dont agree w/ 99.9% of shit that taxes go towards.

i couldn't care less if there was one single paved road in the country for instance.

See thing is they can go back 7 to 10 years but if they find that you have evaded they will investigate even further now I am not 100% on that but i have heard of it. Already this is gonna cost the guy money to fix 15 years of filings I would seek legal advice from an attorney. Don't sweat it they ain't gonna throw you in jail just gonna hit your pocket book...

Well, I'm not sure, but I think you have to pay all the back taxes, but the penalties can be significantly reduced.
But if that's not the case, then you have a very good point, why the hell should any of us pay the full amount now, if we can settle for a lot less later?

That's just TOUGH! You live in America, and America needs roads (amongst a myriad of other things taxpayers dollars pay for), as most Americans would agree with. The food you eat isn't delivered to your local store by people who walk it there on their backs. If you don't like it then move to another country, but if you want to live in America then as an income earner you must pay and file taxes, regardless of whether or not you think America should have paved roads.

Where would America be today if nobody paid their taxes? :)

It only took them 3 years to start hounding me. I ignored them & 6 months later my boss walks out with a wage garnishment form & tells me to handle this. Paying them monthly right now............
