Two billion? Hahahaahahahahaa!! Uh, Mendocino county alone produces roughly 9-12B per year in weed, I think your estimates might be missing a 0 or two.
It cracks me up that some folks think that weed will continue to sell for $300 an oz after legalization. Try $100 (plus $50 tax per ZIP) and where is your profit margin? It will be around 50%, which will be low enough that if you're only growing 3# a crop you'll only be bringing home about $2400 per crop net, X5 crops a year, oooh you'll make $12K a year.
It will cost more to buy the gear and grow it than it will to buy it. All of the guys on here with less than 8KW will probably quit. Then who will be here to hate on the commercial growers? lolBasically if prices fall as some California Govt officials are estimating, and you make $800 per pound profit, you'd need to grow 62.5# a year to make $50K. That is 5X12.5 crops in a year. Shit, I know way easier and less stressful jobs that pay more than that man. Why bother? I bet lots of former cash croppers with less than an 8KW grow will quit as it won't be worth it anymore.
The risks of robbery won't go away, the risk of cops doesn't go away. The only thing that goes away is profit margins.

people forget this a GROWERS forum, not a "i buy an ounce every week and its too expensive" forum. you guys are advocating legalization in the lions den, where most of us are involved in the black market aspect of Mary and DONT WANT LEGALIZATION because its our livlihoods. I dont have no planes, jewelry, etc, im paying my bills and saving for the future through this.

People outside of california have much higher profit margins due to it being illegal, you take the risks you get the reward, or the flipside. its something unavoidable in the MJ industry.
I dont see people pulling off 10ks in Kentucky suddenly being able to do so because california legalizes.
If anything it will just flood your local markets with subpar cali shit that doesnt sell in cali, fucking up your margins.
You're making a jump from saying "It will destroy the market in Cali.", which is a reasonable concern, to saying "It will be the death of ICMag.", which is just FUD.

taking the first step toward legalization is right.

I mean...those who can't grow...or don't want to grow...where do you think their smoke is coming from?
And before you complain about grows for "profit"...if you have grown, especially indoors, then you will know it is not cheap to do so in quantities!
You will also realize MJ costs less in state legal parts of the country versus non state legal parts.
You will know why that is so.

Have you ever tried to open a microbrewery? I have a friend whos Uncle tried. Do you have any idea the licensing and red tape involved? He gave up before he killed himself!
Big Tobacco is going to drive prices so low to remove any competition (bye bye 'black mkt'). After they corner the market they are going to gouge the fuck out of everybody by making it so rediculously expensive to start a legal biz, that there will only be large Corporations doing the legal market (bye bye small grower)! GAME, SET AND MATCH!
Govt. is going to take a massive share in taxes, licensing fees, etc., and these 'Tools' are going to pay the same in the end!
Like I said before, THE ONLY THING THAT IS GOING TO CHANGE IS WHO GETS THE SAME $BILLIONS- THE COMMON MAN, OR CORPORATE AMERICA!
P.S. I love hearing how these people claim that "THEY" are going to be the ones with the 'superior' product that everyone is going to want over the mass produced variety.
