F'n ridiculous!

"Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself; and where they are, they should be changed. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against possession of marihuana in private for ... ... See MoreSee Morepersonal use... Therefore, I support legislation amending Federal law to eliminate all Federal criminal penalties for the possession of up to one ounce of marihuana."
- Jimmy Carter

From the Texas Constitution : "Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States" ... not to the President of the US or even the Congress of the US.

Simple Green - If you knew what you were talking about, you would know that TX is more self-sufficient than just about every state in the Union. Not many states can easily refuse 3/4 billion in stimulus funds. If Texas did succeed again, it would be divided up into territories.

The man got what he deserved, after all marijuana is a harmful dangerous herb that teaches people to think for themselves, not the government.

Yeah how dare he violate indoctrination! What is all this manufacturing consent for if a guy can smoke something and figure out he is being used as a kind of cattle in a kind of global human-cattle farm.

Thats completely fucked up! Fuck TEXAS! Interesting how rape in Texas will get you about 2-4 years.....

Does that cover raping blind, cripple Grannies in the park? I guess you best not smoke a joint before you do.

Just to be safe...

When I did 5 years for having over 100 plants,I watched child molesters come in,complete their sentence and then go out and rape another kid, come back in and get out again before I did. They took my land, home, everything! They made my girl a co-defendant because we were not married so she could not visit me and I didn't get to see my kids for 5 years. And gave me a $15.000 fine to boot. This is a war, don't forget it. I was a political prisoner,a prisoner of war. They did not change the way I think, they lost!!! I lost time...but they will never win.

There are good things about Texas I am sure.. However it's the racism and horrid legal system and that sort of corruption and collusion between the Texas Judicial, Law enforcement and the stock value of the private prisons stock that is the obvious flaw in that Independence form an American perspective,

So To the people of Texas I salute you. To the Texas Government I disrespect you for your Human rights violations in relationship to the corruption that racist white men have implemented as Law over the decades. 35 years for cannabis is such a Human rights violation as in cruel and unusual punishment that serves to oppress the common people of your State.

Wow new coffee here.. can you tell?

 I laughed. That, I agree, is one of the very, very poor points of living here in the Bible Belt. It can be hard to have civilized discussions about such things.

It does suck that this guy is a prior felon though. It just adds to the stereotype that cannabis=felons.

Oh it's not the people's fault.. Not today's people IMO..

What was the movie "American Violet" ?? They had a law that said if someone said you did something that was enough to send you to prison. No proof needed.

It was only when one person said they wouldn't take a plea bargain and fought it that the law changed. Obviously the folks getting targeted with the A snitch-is-a-conviction law were not White in general.

I can't imagine that myself.. That someone can lie and send me to prison when the State has no actual proof except that someone said so.

We couldn't build enough prisons in California if that was our law.. It's beyond comprehension that a justice system had such a tool.

But yeah.. I was in central Florida when i was young.. I know about the Bible belt. We have that sort of thing here too.. I live in Turlock Ca and we have the most churches per person in the world.

So yeah.. LOL one can feel that cold shock when talking about Republicans in a Negative light here at the Denny's ( restaurant ) for example. That's when I toss in some Gay Rights talk even louder than the Pro-Cannabis. I'm not a gay man but it's fun to know someone in the restaurant will have indigestion from that.

he sounds like he deserves the 35...

Wow, thats harsh. deserves 35 years for a pound of coke and a gun? I disagree.. Someon should have to lose half thier life for trafficing cocaine. And if somone was in possesion of that much coke, i'd expect them to be armed.
I'm not sayin its right.. but I dont think its deserving of 35 years in jail. lol whats that gonna solve. Is it gonna make him a better person? help his kids? Okay so maybe it takes danger out of society.. but danger to whom? some crackheaded thief? lOlolol

Hmm, sounds fucked. Wonder if it's true. I live, really not too far from there, same region. Seen people go to jail for a roach. Seen cops spend time cleaning car carpets building half a bowl of schwagg to arrest someone on. Shameful shit man.

I've been on the fence as to stay or go. This kinda pushes shit right over the top though. I'll take any ole spot out west now. Sure I'll miss all my friends showing me their new guns, and every wednesday night and sunday morning roads cleared for churches, but I don't see the intelligence in risking it here anymore.

It cost tax payers $30,000 per inmate per year. So that 1/4 pound of devil weed is going to cost the american tax payers $1,050,000.

I blame privatized prisons. We need to get rid of them YESTERDAY. If our government dont have the time or resources to jail you, then obviously your not enough of a danger to be in the prison system.

Nobody should be in jail unless its for a heinous crime, like rape, murder or child molestation.

35K a year....those were like 90's numbers they must be higher now? plus the trial was prolly in the 6 figure range?plus the tax revenue lost over 35 years....plus the the medical care that a man that age will need.... then there is the social and humanity loss of having your granddad in prison......................FUCKING BS!!

someone studying (or a graduate) of statical data needs to create a chart or graph of this shit...you hear assholes like bill orielly crying about child rapist being released.....does he and his ilk know they need more room for the evil weed user, so raqpist go free....i never liked texas now im reminded why....

in hawaii one would serve 7 years if convicted of 2nd degree murder; in massachusetts it would be 15 years. i'm sure there are lots of people doing "life" sentences for murder who will be eligible for parole before this guy. wtf?

hardly a week goes by that we don't hear about some priest, minister, sunday school teacher, etc...molesting children. they get light sentences to begin with, if convicted at all. then they are housed in some luxurious jail (because prisoners in the state joint would cut their throats). they receive "treatment" rather than punishment and always get out early. and most of them offend again and again. wtf?

if this guy appeals past the tyler court, to a texas state court he will a little better off. The sentence would be reduced to about 3 months to a year, and some probation.

This story surprised me until I read which town. have cousins that used to live in tyler so I am very familiar with the racist, meth head town. They were the only 5 jews in the whole county, and they knew it because they were treated like shit.

I'm not sure what this disgraceful sentence has to do with "racist white men", but it certainly is heart-breaking. I can just see this southern hayseed prosecutor putting this poor slob away for the rest of his life for possessing a few ounces of devil weed and heading home after work to toss back a shot of Jack. Then on Sunday he'll be sitting in the pew at church imagining himself to be a good christian. There's so much that is wrong about this that I don't even know where to begin. It is this kind of revolting hypocrisy that drove me from organized religion. My relationship with God doesn't require the imprimatur of any smugly self-righteous bible-thumpers, and the south is chock full of em.
