I love San Diego! The weather, the beach, the mountains, the desert. They are all right here! Big city, suburbs, elevation man! I would rather be broke and homeless here in San Diego than be rich as shit looking over my shoulder all the time for smoking a blunt in Virginia. :joint:

I don't grow for a living in that I have a 9-5 and even an evening job a few days a week. But I make enough to be growing for a living.

It's the easiest thing I've ever done in my life. I spend an hour a a day in my garden but it's mostly because I want to. I could probably get away with spending an hour a week and my crop would be roughly the same. McDonalds in college was harder than growing. So...I guess we disagree on that one Mr B.

I thought Mr. B had great points, all the way through his post and I repped him.

I disagree a little Dopey, if you grew over 6k in lights with 3+ bedrooms, you would not have a job because growing would be your full time job. A lot more than a hour a week. A 9-5 does not cut it in Cali if your planning on living in anything higher than an apartment for the rest of your life.

Without a degree the median housing pricing and cost of living can easily push toward 3K a month. At $36,000 a year, not many companies are going to hire you without 2-4 years relevant experience or a degree in that field.

By growing enough to make a positive cash flow (which is what most of the people that have no clue and want to come out here to get rich do) you have to be clearing at LEAST up to $10,000 a month on your grow. With no hiccups. Meaning that you have no room for error, so your operation has to be somewhat large and it has to be good shit.

It's more work than an hour a week brotha'

That's ok Dopey; I'm cool with other opinions. Like I said; I've lived here my whole life so I know the reality of living here. It's not cheap and the stories you here about crime are very true.
This state may have it's beautiful oceans and little resort towns like Santa Cruz but when get 25 miles away from Santa Cruz your in San Jose, another town with a huge crime problem.

With that said, some hydro guys have managed to make their grows almost fully automated, stopping by the house once or week or less.
Those operations are possible with enough cash and the right person setting it all up.

Anywho, I would move from this country if I wasn't old and didn't have kids. I hunted in New Zealand last year and I didn't want to leave. Canada has some great land as well.

Merry X-Mas all,

Its so funny listening to all the experts wax philisophical about the terrible state of Cali. If you can grow quality herb you can live and prosper in any state! I have a 9-5 and I spend a few moments a week in my grows. Why do you need more time than that? The plants dont need help doin what they do if you do what you should early on! If you are organized and clean there is not alot of work to this. You gotta KISS it baby! Keep It Simple Stupid! Cali is a great place to live as well. Wakeboarding, fishing in the summer and snowbarding and hunting in the fall!! All the talk of crime and bad neighborhoods! You cats have never lived in the housing projects of Chi-town or the swamp bottoms of the south if you think Oakland is all that tough! 4 cops killed in Washington not that long ago, should we move all the women and children from there? Oakland is like any big city in the US. Good and bad. Elclectic and dangerous. I cant hate cause its the only place you can hang with E-40 and Too Short over blunts in a club on just a random Thursday nite out!!!

Prices are like women!! If you got the prettiest one at the party, everybody wants to fuck her, no matter what the economy! If your shit aint selling for what it used to then step your game up! Alot of people here "grow" but their gear is weak and hard to move. You cant sell NL when everyone is asking for OG Kush and you cant dump Hindu Skunk when everybody is asking for Grapes! If you are gonna let the custmer dictate price you will always end up losin. Good herb speaks for itself and sells itself. Living is great on the left coast so if you are chasin a dream chase it!!

This sounds like a Sales Manager for a call center on Craigslist:

Are you motivated? Are you a top seller? Are you tired of being bossed around? Not making 100% commission? We need ROCK-STAR sales people to sell goat hair boots at our store. Potential is $250,000 a year! Get into a ground floor business that no one is doing yet! All your friends will die with envy, apply today!

Sorry Rainman, you made good points, but when 2,000 people grow the O.G kush, it doesn't matter how good of a salesman you are, the other guy next to you is trying to low ball you so that he can make the sale. Now, instead of hustling to make MORE money, you are actually hustling to make LESS money.

If it wasn't true, I wouldn't say it.

Well I for one will be moving to cali very soon . All the hate threads on dont move to cali are really funny to me and make me think they just dont want the stess of knowing someone might actually do better with it than they do .
not trying to pick a fight but gangsters really you are joking right every metro city has gangs and if i remember correctly cali crime rate is lower than where i live now nice scare tactic tho LOL
when this site first started chatting with peope from cali they would tell you to get your ass out there . That they would help you any way they could . I understand times change but damn all threads pertaining to moving to cali get bashed by cali growers saying no dont do it it wont work for ya . What gives ???
When i talk to club owners and employees I allways hear the same thing they are allways looking fo people who can grow quality meds . That they are tired of people wanting top dollar for half ass grown crops from people who are just looking to get paid.

Why all the negative vibes from cali ?????

come out here mayne. leave the dirty south.

as far as the bad vibes.... lot of young 20 somethings out here who think they know everything. they got in at the right time while the govt flip flopped about regulating and made some cash. the economy crashed, prices fell, jobs disappeared, and some can't hack it. survival skills like some said.

this is america. go wherever the fuck you want. Cali is great, but don't come here just for growing. the scene is bunk and no one is going to help you or give you something for nothing.

save lots of cash. i would say 120 days of rent/bills plus gear. whoever said 60 days is trippin'. read this site and figure it out.

cream rises to the top.:tree::santa1:

Is it ok to move to Cali if you and your family need it for medicinal reasons? I don't want to make a profit I just don't want to go to jail.

Socal - No worries. You make a valid point. 250K a year? Seems low for top notch sellers! My point is if 2000 are growing OG out here you can bet that 1500 dont know what they are doing and another 300 dont know how to properly cure. Leavin just 200 to really compete with!! Like I said earlier, if your gear is top notch you dont take shorts on price or clientel. I hope there are cats lowballing real growers cause if the client cant tell the diff. they are too stupid to deserve the fire. I would put my gear and finished product up against anyone's and be confident you would pick my stuff 9 outta 10. And be happy paying the price tag. When it comes to price, I just dont see it dropping around me except for poorly grown and cured stuff. Its a capitalistic market like all things Cali. If you got the best, you charge the most. Simple and easy. No need to hustle for more or less, let your product do that for you! Its called whippin tha pussy and not lettin tha pussy whip you!! If it wasnt the truff, I wouldnt speak on it!

Truth!

A dufflebag of mediorcre or worse bud, is a burden and a liability.

There ya go! Your still tied to the market - and a smart provider remembers that. You may have great stuff but it still has to be able to justify the additional - or hold market price and limit distribution - which will drive demand and keep it selling even when others are getting spotty.

The market is changing.

- - However,,, Tiger Woods may have a little different perspective on the prices and women topic. LOL

It sounds to me like you might just be sick of all the masses of people in S. Cali. I agree..... traffic sucks and Im constantly amazed at the number of people who live here. I dont think you can blame the cause of decreased sales on there being too many growers in the area. I think it has more to do with the shitty economy.

Im born and raised down here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.... I've lived in other states too. So honestly, ya cant realy blame anyone for wanting to live here. I would want to live here too.

But no seriously.... the trafic is horrible! You realy dont want to deal with this traffic.

All the growing aside this is a great place to be and I recomend it to anyone!!! I do agree the traffic is shitty but man is it worth it in the grand sceme of it all. Also if you wanna get away from the crowds its real easy to do in a state that covers most of the west coast. The cities are great but the country is even better.

RMH - I agree about Tiger! Whats the diffrence between him and Santa???? Santa stops at 3 ho! ho! ho's!!!! Happy Holidays!!!

Ultimately, IMHO, if you can find a way to make 80K+ a year combined, san diego/socal is worth it. Anything less than that and you're sacrificing sooooooo much that even a beach bum pothead like me can't justify it.

If socal prices could tumble down just a little, even , I'd be back tomorrow.

San Diego is heaven on earth if you've got money. There is EVERYTHING.

every big city i know is expensive to live in. I pay 600.00 for my half of the rent where i live now.

I would love to move out to cali just to be a part of the industry. I dont grow but i would love to work in and around dope all day like at a dispensary or farm.

plus the beach is the shit

If you want to see what happens to most of the new growers in California, go look at the line outside any soup kitchen on any given Sunday. Most of them are now homeless and starving, but that MMJ card in their wallet, man that helps them out a ton huh?

Richard Gozinya

I have a buddy in Santa Cruz he is doing just fine, gets from 225-250 per oz and harvests 2-3 lbs. every 2 months. He sells to about 13 -14 patients at a very good price for very good product. He is not greedy and has no illusion of ruling the world. Tends to his garden everyday and sells some clones as well. His customers stay with him until they die, and then he has folks waiting to fill the void. Not everyone has to rock a warehouse to get by.

So lemme get this straight, your buddy is selling ~40 oz every two months for ~$10K? Shit he's doing fantastic, that's more money than I made in the last 2 years combined and I know my garden is bigger than his. Maybe I oughtta give up growing and just open a hydro shop, that seems to be where most of my knowledge lies anyway.

Most of the posters in this thread are giving sound advice but some are either really young or really stupid, I'm not sure which it is.

This young man (18 years old... he's just a kid!) just lost his dad, It's very irresponsible for some of you to act like it's so damn easy to live on your own in this state. A state with the highest rate of child murder in the country I might add.

This guy needs structure and someone to help point him in the right direction cause growing weed for a living isn't it.
We all make our choices in life, but please don't tell this young man that's it's easy to grow, that's not cool at all.

Feel free to call on me if you get in trouble or need someone to talk too.

How is it not easy to live in CA??? There are bums and crank fiends making $20 an hour hitting up grocery store parking lots.

CA will provide for you- money(welfare), food(stamps), a home(u just need a tent), and plenty of sunshine.

Weed should be free, and You shouldn't be making a killing off it. You said it yourself, "God gave me this green herb."
