I havn't had any problems logging in or lurking here, hope it stays that way.

Australian has had some weird laws, up untill the 60's it was illegal to commit suicide, the punishment if you tried?????
DEATH BY HANGING...:yoinks:

I think the reason pot is illegal and alcohol is legal is because of tax. You can't pour a beer into a peice of dirt and grow more, you have to buy it, pay state, fed tax and keep the economy rolling.

Tobacco is worse, nearly 75% of the price of a packet of cigs is tax. If any other product caused someone to get sick there would be a "product recall". But never with cigarettes. Governbments make way too much off of them from people who are hooked for life.

When you buy pot, your dealer and the grower make the money, the gov makes nothing. All you need is some seeds and the governemnt is out of the tax loop. The only source of income is a stack of fines!

It would be great to get a government that truly represents the people, but the corporations pay them too much for the politicians to give a sh*t about us. It's not the people who cast the votes who decide an election, it's the people who count the votes!:2cents:

So far it appears that its only bigpond users who are blocked. other ISP's seem to be fine. Proxies work fine but are a pain in the ass to use, too many popup adds & rubbish but at least we can get in with em.

Its not telstra (bigpond). I am blocked and I use AAPT. Someone else who uses AAPT is fine. The censorship trial hasn't even started yet. Sorry to shout but no one seems to be reading this: THERE MUST BE SOME OTHER EXPLANATION.

hmm strange. i'm blocked with bigpond but friends on internode & others arn't. Thats y i thought it was bigpond only. interesting & troubling. Censorship of the internet, hoped i'd never see it. I really don't see the point when u can get straight into all blocked sites via a proxy & if u don't mind popup adds u can even do it for free ffs.

It started for me around Christmas. I couldn't get on for a few days then I could again, now I can't. Weird. I can't explain how Silver Surfer (post 74?) can get on here using AAPT yet I can't using the same Service provider???? Surely if ISPs were blocking the site it would be the same for all users. Also why can I get onto any other pot related site but not this one? icmag is no worse than some others I could mention.

Its very weird, it could be that the filters are installed at the exchanges( could be hardware filtering as opposed to software which could be tampered with more easily), like the adsl upgrades that had to take place at each exchange, and as yet only certain areas have been upgraded/filtered. So it could be a locational thing as opposed to an isp thing, either way it is bad news.
How can an unjust law be changed if one cant even legaly speak about it or read about it. They could have tackled the k porn issue in other ways, they just used it as an excuse to go much further, and they now call all opposed to the ban supporters of kporn, very convienient.
Now , having said all this , australia is still a very free country in many ways( the last and only time i was pulled over in a car and searched was about 15 years ago to put it in perspective, although i am very safety concious) , and i would live no where else in the world, except to travel to europe to work occassionaly, though i will always return to my beloved australia, we just have to focus and work on fixing little probs like this before they turn into big ones.
The biggest prob here is we are way behind the rest of the world as far as mmj laws are concerned, i envy cali for that for sure and we can learn from how cali has pushed and won so much for medical mj.
I will be marching down the main street of nimbin this may smoking a fatty with my head held high, in protest to our government. If any aussies can get there for mardi grass i suggest u do the same, if we can pack the whole region every year, and the numbers continue to grow , they will have to eventualy get the picture, time for us to stand up

I can login here using NextG on my iphone wich is with telstra, i use another isp at home.

They will just force us to invent an internet inside the current one that is encrypted, so they will never win. The net was made to withstand ww3.

See if i get any post count now, they must not have it setup properly i guess...

I'm in Western Australia and not having any problems at all accessing icmag, but then this filter is just a trial at the moment, and it's OPT-IN by ISP's, so I'm guessing that Telstra BigPond are being filtered, but my ISP (which is owned by iiNet) isn't.

Damn, I had always thought of OZ as a very free and progressive nation. But considering this and some of the other things that have changed in the not too distant past, including the gun control frenzy that is sweeping the country, my impression of it has certainly changed.

It is unfortunate that so many of our leaders feel compelled to protect us from ourselves. I for one don't care for it, and frankly it smacks of socialist/communist rhetoric to me., "It's for your own good as well as the good of society", is how it always begins. Followed by disarming the populace(1996), and then silencing, and limiting the type of information that can be disseminated. Don't believe me, read your history(I'm a a fan of it).

To all my Aussie friends: "FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT". I'm with you!!!

Its annoying how many people are equating freedom with gun ownership and gun laws. The right to bear arms is an American thing. There is no such Australian equivalent. I for one would not like to live in a country where gun deaths per head of population are what they are in the US compared to Australia. A lot of the opinions here are really uninformed. There is little reason for most people in Australia owning a gun, especially the types that were banned.

Australia is a much less tolerant country than it was even a decade ago.

This explains why I have been tearing out what little hair I have left. I am with AAPT and have been blocked, until AAPT helped me set up a proxy. The AAPT tech guys were unaware of this censorship and are up in arms too.
This is an illegal act in my view. I have lodged a formal complaint with my ISP.

id agree hard rain ...
im not sure id equate freedom of speech with owning a gun ,, its quite a different affair .. i dont even care if i cant own a hand held missile launcher ,, but id kinda like to view unregulated discussion from free thinking adults ... thats what really pissing me off ...

Unfortunatley it is, there are so many weird laws that get re-written, luckily. Homosexuality used to be illegal too, kinda weird if you want to punish a gay guy you don't lock him away with only other men and a shower block IMO.

The media should be telling more about this censorship, but there hands are tied with what they can and can't report. Better to live in the woods behind a large fence and call it your own country and make your own laws!:wallbash:
