No need to exert violence upon me sir.
You say "natural disasters" are equal to the war in Iraq ?
You say: "Afganistan was preemptive?? "
The Taliban offered to give up Usama bin Laden and his entire network to an International Tribunal. The Iranians were assisting the USA in this regard.
Invasion of that country was not necessary in order to resolve and bring to justice the people who perpetrated violence upon the USA.
It was all disregarded in deference to toppling a regime that refused to grant the US access across Afghanistan for an Oi&Gas pipeline therefore, American men and women were sent to their deaths on behalf of the Energy Task Force, not seeking justice.
Iraq was a complete clusterfuk with the same designs emanating from the Cheney Energy Task Force.

I would not advise ANYONE to sign on to promote those policies as they have nothing to do with America's Freedom.

A strong and vibrant military is essential but, that power must be wielded judiciously.

Funny .. someones high. Wheres this oil pipeline today if that was the 'mission'?

At the time we had zero forces in the area and the cost at putting them there would cost billions. If there was a diplomatic out it surely would have been given some time of day. Afghanistan was given plenty of time to offer Bin Laden and facts are they said no right up to the end.

For all this bullshit talk about the US profiting from foreign oil I have yet to see it anywhere. If talk was proof I guess they would have shut up by now.

If you are serious about going into the service, I would check out the Coast Guard or the Air Force.
I am a Desert Shield/Storm Vet and I servered 4yrs in the Army from 17-21.
If I could do it all over, the CG would be my #1 Option. AF #2.

I did not say the vietnam war had anything to do with modern society ,or the freedoms we have today. Have I eaten all the propaganda the government throws my way? I knew there would be a few people on IC like this ...let me guess...you live in the US on top of it ? Sir. you have no idea what freedom is.

Take care and thank you everybody for the educated replies.

Don, I don't live anywhere near USA, thank god.

Would you like to explain to me what freedom is, from american point of view?

Is it like this:
- You come to new piece of land, kill everybody who's living there.
- You bring people from another land and make them you're slaves. (freedom?)
- You develope system where very few people benefit from manufacturing weapons that can destroy every living thing on this planet. And they talk americans into using these weapons for other people.
- And believe it or not, you're one of these poor folk that has been talked into it. I feel sorry for you, I really hope you don't kill anybody out there.

Kaneh you are right. However; just letting the military run its course at will is not a good strategy. Doubtless without intervention , this "machine" will keep getting stronger and maybe one day over run YOUR land.

This is why we must not ignore a problem but sometimes infiltrate it, treat it with respect, and hopefully reform it for the better. Alas, Babylon ; America was not the first to develop this system you illustrate; lets go ahead and blame our existence on the Scythians, or Egyptians, or Sumerians.

Does anyone have knowledge or experience of mos 38b , civil affairs specialist.

i've looked somewhat plenty into web pages and military forums but I have a feeling someone around here will have something decent to say about this specific mos

tennesse your being delusional if you think you can change our military in anyway. dont join thinking your going to change the system it doesnt work that way unfortunately.

I was being inanely broad and general with my statement; you and others like you must have the same sentiment about changing the world, huh, we must all be stupid to think anything will ever change. keep it up; it might not, unless you try.

you better wave your hands if you need a breeze--better spread real wings if you wanna fly

To anyone 25 and under my advice is to join the service, any one it dont matter. The economy around the US sucks ass and there is nothing for you younger set,at least the service will pay and give you a career.
And as far as your life being at stake, trust me.....youll probably live thru all these hard times.

I agree, i have family and friends in army with great jobs and exelent salaries, it maybe hard the first months but then gets easier as it goes , but is a big decision for your life and future....

no im just telling you the power structure in the military will simply take you out if you get in a position to positively effect change.these people dont mess around man. if your in the military you have no voice, no 1st amendment rights. the military isnt an arm flopping around operating on its own. the brain controls the arm. the brain will simply perform surgery on the arm and cut you out like a cancerous growth. you have to replace the brain. im not saying our military is all bad and that people that join for various reasons are wrong. im just saying if you join for the sole purpose of changing the system, your going to be disappointed. but hey you never know you could be neo and save us all.if you do join thats what id be hoping for,and id wish that you succeed. i don't want you to fail dude.just being realistic.

you won't have to put it down

you make him your own weapon

And you can keep thanking your god and the US that you dont need to live anywhere near us and still have your freedom protected by our military.

- You come to new piece of land, kill everybody who's living there.- You bring people from another land and make them you're slaves.

Unless you missed out on early European history everyone in power was off making colonies for their home country and they all had a hand in slavery. Calling us out individually on something everyone did at that time makes your point kind of moot.

- You develope system where very few people benefit from manufacturing weapons that can destroy every living thing on this planet.

Tell that to all the nations that protect themselves with weapons we sold them. Israel would be long gone without our help as would many other countries.

You can cry about our military all you like but Im willing to bet your from a NATO country and have all those weapons to thank for your own freedom.

Död, good call man..this goes to everybody knocking the US military(not saying you are ,in fact I agree with you) besides the point; unless you're not paying taxes on anything.everybody that lives in america supports the war whether you believe in it or not...think about it...

thanks for all the advice

just because money is spent, doesnt make it just,:2cents:

joined the army at 17 finished with high school and couldnt get a real job till i was 18... Just some part time bullshit. The army gave me a full time job. Sent me around the world introduced me to lots of nice people then told me to kill them. It wasnt really that bad. I seen so much of europe including Amsterdam smoked my whole 3 years. Then I got out and started growing.
