Fuck bics and any other lighter for smoking Bud

Haha, I was about to pop in and say that my hakko box wasn't exactly in English. Definitely out of Japan. I'm loving it. I just need some quality glass to go with it. Waiting til I come across a nice Toro on the East Coast.

It was my understanding that all the butane is combusted before it touches your bud.

If that is true, all you're sucking in is the product of a simple hydrocarbon combustion reaction.
The products are CO2 gas and H2O gas (water vapor).. Both are odorless/tasteless.

Do lighters run rich and leak out unburnt butane when lit?

I was looking at my old Craftsman solder iron & 2 screws hold in the tips.
I suspect I could insert a solid glass rod where the tip goes and have a
hot glass rod to light stuff.
Anybody try that yet?

Some food for thought. I know the instructions say that only the solder has lead, however the ceramic could have contaminents such as:cadmium, mercury, copper, zinc, lead, manganese, nickle, lithium, and aluminum. At the temperature this heats up to it could be vaporizing these atoms thus you are inhaleing them. The Hakko was not manufactured for this use and I don't think the ceramic would necessarily be pure. They put lead in kids toys in that part of the would. I'll stick to my Bic or volcano.

i like bics cuz i blaze j's all day outside without access to a power outlet; and it lets me light cigs for the pretty ladies in need at bars even though i don't smoke; if you don't mind it it's a great icebreaker ;)

Interesting thought. I wonder if that vaporizer study (a while back) found any of your suspects in the smoking vapor, i'm sure they'd have cried foul if found.

. some vaps use ceramic elements i think and your fear could
be in play.

Correct but the vap was made for smoking and the odds are that they would be more careful with their ceramic, I don't care either way it's just people freakin out over butane fumes and substituting for possible unknown harmfulf
substances seems foolish.

yes but I can taste the butane fumes.

I highly doubt the people making the vapes that use a ceramic element use one that differ's from the hakko's unit

Bics the trick.

Bics the trick.

When you think of all the butane fume you have sucked down over the years, is it any wonder that you are sick of that sh!t.
Solar Bowls man when its not raining and you are outside in the breeze.
Redhead matches are cancerous.

Ok lets get this straight you think you can taste butane.

Butane, also called n-butane, is the unbranched alkane with four carbon atoms, CH3CH2CH2CH3. Butane is also used as a collective term for n-butane together with its only other isomer, isobutane (also called methylpropane), CH(CH3)3.

Butanes are highly flammable, colorless, odorless, easily liquefied gases. The name butane comes from the roots but- (from butyric acid) and -ane.

Next you think a $500 Volcano made in Germany for the purpose of inhalation uses the same ceramic that a $30 soldering iron does.
Are you nuts or just stupid.

Keep using that Hakko in a manner not intended and burn yourself like someone else did on this thread or burn down your house. Least of all keep sucking down those super heated contaminents from the asian ceramics.
All of you following this kids advice take heed find a better device to ignite your bud. Mr. Tony do some research before giving advice some people believe you, do you want to be responsible for injuring other people?
Sorry to be so harsh but taking apart an electrical device that reaches 1100 degrees is just plain ignorant in order to save a few bucks. Lets look at the facts you are smoking a product that costs a lot of money why skimp on your experience and make it dangerous too.

volcano doesn't use a ceramic heating element

I've been using a hakko for well over a year, no burns, no fires. mine is only 25 watts and reach around 770 degrees.

not everyone is brain dead stoner.

GL buddy. thats like wearing/not wearing a seatbelt.

You don't care about it, and don't do anything to fix the problem (put your damn seatbelt on) until you're in a wreck and injured, but wouldn't have been or not as severely if you had your seatbelt on.

I'm going to laugh my fucking ass off when you burn yourself, inhale carcinogenic chemicals and/or your house burns down.

You do realize that, if in any event the servers are confiscated from GN or your computer gets busted, having that in your posts makes 0 difference. They will use it against you, saying you pre-planned and/or enacted a marijuana manufacturing operation. The judge will laugh at that, I've seen it happen in court personally, and through stories from friends. 'Disclaimers' make no difference. Same goes for other crimes....If i say "I'm going to fucking kill miley cyrus", but then after say "..in my new book I Kill Miley Cyrus"...it doesn't change the fact i made a threat. it will be prosecuted like any other crime. Marijuana is no different. People from ICMAG have been busted and had their shit on here used against them.

first of all, its not about being right...its finding the truth.

the truth is both can cause fires or burn you.

this guy found something that was better, you havent.

Ive been using the sun lately to burn. I also light joints with the magnifying glass.

If you think you can convince me of anything by making think hakko cermamic heating elements are stupid, well then I guess they are aren't they? Could be your opinion though...and maybe it sucks and is misinformed...so it may be wrong.

sorry but I react when I see blatant calling someone dumb or that their sucking in "super-heated" particles...and btw is that a fact (its not)? you dont know what super-heated means, I knew what it meant when I was somewhere around 14-15. Nice ill-used terminology, crappy attitude, ignorance and self-appreative nonsense you got there though.

hey gold, try this on for size:

get anything that doesn't burn and hover it over the lighter....and black substance will appear. its not a burn mark, its a deposit that can be wiped way.

also you just said butane was colorless, odorless..wikipedia/you never said it wasn't tasteless.

also search "butane taste" tons of search results involving marijuana users and this so-called "taste of butane."

care to quote me and make a fool out of me GOLD123.

KMK0420-yup, "positive vibes" just like the text above your avatar. Wait, didn't you just say you'll laugh when someones house burns down? I'm not taking it as full truth, you might not laugh - but lighting a joint or bowl or anything involves heat and flames.....so what is your argument? you might get burned?

It seems you both of you have an attitude..one saying Tony was verbally destroyed in a VB fashion, then you make fun of his signature.

Then the other one tries to reduce Tony to an idiot by mentioning he mixed up what element he was using.

Well, I can just sit here and present facts and reason and still piss you two off somehow and arguing with me is at your own expense...its a waste of time. But if you have to, you will have to quote every line I say and dispute it properly instead of maybe just calling me a name or something childish, most likely in an act to escape the truth that you're wrong.

On my last note I must tell you: yea, non-food grade heating elements could contain garbage in it...not disputing this.

First of all proof read your attack before you call someone ignorant.
If you don't believe 842 degrees is super heated what is? Water boils at 212. 842 will surely cause 3rd degree burns. I didn't say super heated gases such as an oxy-acetylene tourch which burns between 5800F & 6300F. I wasn't refering to the temperature of the Space Shuttle exhaust gases. Sure the Hakko won't melt tungsten, melting point 6170F, but it does get extremly hot 842F. The model 455 and 456 Hakko's get up to 1100F. The hottest temperature recorded in death Valley was 134F which was considered super heated air. I didn't say super heated particles the term I used was contaminents. Super heated has more than one definition guess you didn't learn that until now. Mr. Tony didn't find something better he found something reckless and dangerous because he's too cheap to procure the proper apparatus. I personally use an S.T Dupont butane lighter with Dupont butane gas. It doesn't leave a black soot mark if you hold it under a piece of glass. You can get a clean burning butane fuel source if you try.

Point being even a cheap Scripto or Bic is less hazardous to your health and well being than a dismantled 842F degree electrical device attached to a 10' extension cord.

Hope your wearing eye protection with your magniyfing glass usage, and not just sun glasses.

The Volcano has thermal protection, not likely to cause a fire, but missed used it could but much less likely than the Hakko.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
I just want to keep you kids safe, with age comes wisdom. the reckless behavior of your youth will look foolish to your when you mature.

devilgood read this:
The Butane Taste Fallacy

Butane is this molecule C4H10 four carbons, ten hydrogens. Let's take a look at the flame produced by burning this molecule.

First the hottest part of the flame is the blue at the base (temperature is proportional to the frequency of light). Blue light has a higher frequency (shorter wavelength) than red light.

The blue is caused by the burning (oxidizing) of the hydrogen. These guys love to get together and make water (H2O), that’s why we have so much water on this planet. They do this quickly so the heat they produce causes a high temperature. If you know about entropy (energy, time and equilibrium) this makes sense.

So, just above the blue the hydrogen is gone. Since butane is C4H10, it is impossible for any butane to be here. So, the butane taste is also impossible.Carbon molecules are the only remaining component of the butane. Now these guys aren’t as anxious to go hang out with some oxygen. In the presence of some heat they are good to go.

The black you get is just carbon and what do you think you get when you burn vegetable matter?

yeah I'm so fucking cheap....

the truth is the rubber ring around the hakko handle keeps it elevated enough so it won't catch anything on fire.
