If I can't taste the butane its because I am smoking schwagg. Yeah that explains it.

Perhaps everyone you have shwon this to is just trying to make you feel better about your purchase. Or maybe they are just gullable or they fear a foot stomping tantrum.

For me its no longer weither your ceramic heating element is better or not. Now I just love the arrogance.

i dont know how much of a difference there is either way, but i like my hakko presto alot. I press the button and it gets hot as fuck, and it lets you corner the bowl alot better.

whenever im smoking at my desk where i keep my bong i use it. i also use it to light blunts and joints as it is really easy too.

Ill be honest, I bought a Hakko because of Mr. Tony, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it with my bubblehash. Great taste, and burns smoother (my hash is hard to keep lit with an open flame).

But for smoking herb, I still use my torch lighter. Its more convenient, and I personally dont notice much difference in taste either way. Although, to be honest, my weed is not really GOOD-tasting; it's not bad or unduly harsh, but i definitely dont smoke it for the taste, only for the great high that it gives. If anything, I like the lighter better because it burns the bud quicker, gives a bigger hit....

I guess some people have more sensitive taste buds. Some people become chefs because they're more attuned to subtle differences in flavors, where as for the majority of people if it tastes 'good' that's enough for them.
I'd also say that if you had weed or hash that really tasted good, you'd probably want to smoke it as purely as possible, especially if you were sensitive to the taste of butane.
That being said, I love my Hakko. Its so much more convenient than a glass rod. It's an essential piece of my regular smoking setup, right alongside the lighter...
I would recommend a stand for it. I keep mine in a holder for a different soldering iron. I cant imagine leaving it on a table turned on for hours; even if its not touching the table or rolling i got so much crap on my table Id be afraid ill leave for twenty minutes and come back to a roaring fire...

I smoke so much weed, I don't have the time to turn it into a big production every time. I run two businesses, and have a LOT of folks that depend on me, so I am on the run ALL the time... That's why my glass stays so dirty.

Look we all have different levels of proper smoking etiquette. Most of us won't smoke out a pop can anymore, but probably once did. I still know folks who only change their bong water every few days. Plenty more simply don't clean their pipes. To rinse with alcohol instead of scraping and smoking resin would be crazy. To others smoking out a dirty pipe is like drinking out of a dirty glass.

Just because you personally can't tell the difference between bic lighter fluid and another method doesn't mean it doesn't exist. A prime example is organic growers who think their pot doesn't need to be flushed since its all organic. They have pot that sizzles and pops, leaves crunchy black ash, burns your lips, etc and yet they totally believe their organic pot is as good as it gets. Just oblivious and are happy that way.

I personally use colibiri fluid with a small flame. I can POSITIVELY tell a huge difference between that and a bic or the rancid Ronson. Night and day and I started using it when I first discovered hash oil and was testing the purities of butane on clear panes of glass. I'm glad he posted this up and I'm no big fan of Mr. Tony. But I'll try this for around the house.

To those raggin him: Didn't your mother ever tell you if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all? I'm glad he posted it, several others bought it and are satisfied. So a job well done. If you don't want one then STFU. Quit antagonizing the kid and go look at something else.

It's like I just paid a ton of cash for some super nice wine, why drink it out of a styrofoam cup when I could be using extremely nice china? If you honestly have less fun smoking perfect pot out of clean glass because of the quality of the diffuser or that the glass came from china then you have a companies propaganda so far up your ass they are using you for a puppet.

At any rate you can see where I'm coming from. When people get all goofy like there are huge differences between these top of the line pieces or you're going to have a subpar high because you suffered the indignity of chinese glass or some nonsense it just gets under my skin. Anybody thinking of getting one, just realize to expect some lemons. I have gone thru 2 and the last one was used about 10 days. Be sure to keep all parts taken off- so you can try to refund/exchange for a new one. I am done with them, bics are quicker, more reliable, and safer (anyone that left one of these on for a night/day is very, very lucky!). THIS IS JUST MY OPINION.

Mine has had some problems, I'd plug it in and it wouldn't heat up, I don't know what the problem was but after I plugged it out, kinda fiddled with the ceramic part, and plugged it back in it was back to working fine again.
