The Dr.Bud Method by Thundurkel

those are really looking nice, i'd say it looks like they are lacking nitrogen but this is common at the end weeks of flowering so i would just let it go, maybe boost the N a lil more at the beginning of flowering on ur earlier perpetuals but lacking N toward the end is just going to make the flush that much easier and the smoke that much tastier

Thun, I'm going to be starting a grow using both the doc's methods and the hempy style, particularly with the modified hempybucquet but augmented with mini rockwool cubes in the bottom instead of perlite.

My question is this: could you have modified your ORIGINAL grow setup to use those bottles in a passive hydro system where the holes were drilled on the sides and set in a tray and nutrient solution was poured into the tray and the plant itself sucked it all in as it needed? If possible, this could allow me to use the soil I want for organic quality and not have to worry as much about overwatering which is a concern.

You know BigBlack81 I've been wondering the same thing myself and just read a Skunk mag that had a article on hydro and they had 2 simple systems and it was a wick system and a resivoir system and they were easily able to be used with the DrBud style from how I saw it... I plan to use 10 x 20 trays with 10 4" square pots filled with lava rocks on the bottom half and coco or a soiless mix on top and they will sit in a few inches of nutrient solution at all times and take in water as needed and I will use a fish tank pump and a air stone to keep the solution circulating. Theres a HighTimes from 96-97 that had a closet garden like that and he harvested every 2 weeks

Great minds smoke and hopefully, eventually, grow in similar fashions. I'm convinced this is the methode to go with, especially with the Doc's methods, the hempybucquet mods and good solid nutes. Micro bog growing, in a way.

I'm also going to take the time to make an entire case of bottles and spray the insides with chemical root pruning paint to REALLY drive up the root mass per cubic inch. Check the grow bible in the veg section for his reference.

BigBlack be sure to post up if you end up using copper hydroxide in combination with a hempy style container, very curious to see how that would work out.

If this works well, trust me, I'm honor bound to share the nollij with the people. What helps me should help us all. And besides, your threaded work deserves reciprocation in some small form.

I'm thinking it would work because in such a small space with good solid nutes and a big soil layer, in passive hydro we'd almost negate the need to go larger in the plant diameter (i.e. SCROG or LST) so long as the SOG pruning is good and you have a really heavy productive strain built for the concept. It makes getting good genetics and then milking them for all they are worth so much more imperative because I'll deal with the greater plant count issue with less work overall for better yield consistently.

Blah. And apologies if I'm thread-jacking but good ideas need to be fleshed out. I'll have my own thread up soon when construction starts.

Hey Thundurkel!, Just stopping in and saying nice grow op you got going.

I've been lurking IC Mag for awhile now and I decided i'd start posting.

Been following the CFL Movement dare I call it?

I'm going to be germing bag seed and starting my first grow :rasta: Within' the next week or two. Going to be doing it Rubbermaid Tote style, in thinking like four 42 watt CFL's? or should I add option for two more just in case?

There is going to be a lot of trial and error, but I believe myself to be a open minded individual like your self, and learn very well from others mistakes, so with the help of like minded people such as the doc and his wife, lifeless, you, and others, I think I can learn and dial in the technique decently fast.

I'll start a grow log once I get it going.

Keep up the amazing work, keep pushing that CFL movement foward!

Well I first started off with the CFL's so i wont hate i love them!! I'm glad I'm still not using them but i have a grow room now not a grow cabnit! Keep it up man.. i had best luck with DWC with such a small space.. also I hung my bulbs inbetween plants witch helped with light penetration. also the more plants the better.. i fit as many as i could in a tub inside my cabit in i think 2in baskets.. cut as many holes as i could fit and got the best yields with that, i was really surprised on what i yielded using mircle grow and cheap DIY stuff -dub

Thundurkel,

I got too high and I kinda let me threads go to shit, just wanted to show what I achieved on my first grow, using cfl's...

to the ones considering using a 20 ounce hempy bucket in this method i say go for it, i have been vegging in a hempy bucket and it is fantastic for being in a 20 ounce bottle, due to some circumstances i haven't been able to flower them so instead they are getting a lot bigger than i'd like but its all an experiment for now anyway

Ok thundurkel, you might know this or maybe someone else does.

People say they bake their soil in the oven to kill any kind of bugs and what not. Would this kill any nutrients that would naturally be in that soil?

My buddy has this swamp kind of behind his house parts of the year its bone dry, other parts its super wet, and the rest of the time its just flourishing with life. All that stuff im assuming decomposes and feeds the soil and every other kind of plant grown there does amazing.

I want to get some of that soil to try with like 4 of my plants just as an experiment, but would baking it to make sure I have no bugs kill any natural nutes?

Sorry to take over but I figured it'd be a good question no one has asked and people could learn from it :D

CryptiC Nou can't kill nutrients but u can kill the micro herd that breaks everything down so u have to add some earth worm castings after u bake to get the micro herd going again. There is a sticky over in the Infirmary about baking your soil also.

Thundurkel Hope all is well with u,been a min since u been around these parts.

Ok guys today was the day, I harvested Urkel 1 which I think is just Grand Daddy Purple cuz it was one of the two and it would have been more purple and yielded less if it was Urkel... Anyway the wet weight of Urkel 1 is 26 g so I will say I should have 7g dry I would for surely if I didn't sample a few of the bottom buds over the last 2 weeks but hey Im poor! I'll post pics shortly oh I got my new cab up also!!! New pics coming

I don't have batteries for my camera guys so the final weight is in for Urkel 1 and we got a whopping 5.8g dry and thats with my sampling a little under half the bud before harvest so I know I had a good 8 - 9g off this girl and I also should have let her go a full 9 weeks instead of 8 cuz I hear Urkel really puts on weight in the last 2 weeks so Urkel 2 & 3 are going 9-10 weeks and I got my new cab up and running and I have my b day money coming so I can get the lights and fans I want so my cab isn't just some ghetto shit with light leaks if I'm not here when lights go out to cover shit up ... But yea I got Bubba Kush and Shipwreck cuts coming to me soon and Mendo Purps which is hands down one of the best purples out there and a heavy yielder compared to Purple Kush and turns more purple and has a sweeter smell and better stone so if you can get you hands on a cut of that grab it asap... Well thats all I got for now I will upload harvest pics later if I get batteries

Ok folks ATTENTION!!!!!! Kellogg Garden soil sucks!!! My shit gave my new plants little white bugs all in the soil I fucking freaked out cuz I always check my girls and I had transplanted 5 PK cuts into party cups to veg but I was saving "my soil mix" for my flowering plants cuz I was out of perlite so I planted them in just Kellogg Garden soil and the next day I see tons of these little dudes running around the soil and crawling up the stems of my cuts!!! So I quickly checked everything and the only ones that had these bugs were the ones using just plain Kellogg Garden soil but it didn't have these bugs when I first got it so did they grow as the bag sat downstairs over the last 2 months???

Hey Thundurkel, I know exactly how ya feel........I'm also using Kellogg Patio Plus soil and noticed these bastards crawling around..........I think they are the larvae of fungal gnats.........Do you also have gnats or little black/brown bugs flying around and in the soil??...........I got rid of them by adding perilite on the top of my soil and watering with hydrogen peroxide 30ml per gallon..........Been doing this for about the last 2 weeks and they're just about gone...........Anyways, good lookin' grow.........My cab is very similar to the Dr.'s and yours.........I'm pushing 413 watts/26,800 lumens in a 3 sq. ft space.........CFL's are tha shit!!......Keep on doin' the damn thing!!
