I am just wondering, the days of live Grateful Dead or Phish shows are long gone, so what are you into now? I still listen to all this old stuff and want to update my music tastes, so what is the new thing?
OK THANKS

I'm a Metallica fan, but their best days are also gone. Saw them 6 times over the years and they keep getting older and slower.

I may be wrong but I don't think there is a band today that has the culture statis that Phish and the Dead had. Too many 1 hit wonders.

there are other current threads like this? where? If I knew I wouldn't have posted this...

Anyway, I mean what is a current rock band that you can go see now in concert that is pretty cool in a stony kind of way, like Grateful Dead or Phish was once? My music tastes are pretty varied, I mean I hate opera and most country music, but I like many other things. There's not too many bands I like in their entirety, most I just like a song or two of theirs. Most of my music tastes are things you seldom here anymore. I like most System of a Down and Disturbed songs, and a band from a few years ago called Static-X... and at least a few songs from Slipknot, Rage against the Machine, Pantera, and yes even a couple Metallica songs although I don't like their whole commercialism anti-download thing. I think downloading music could be used as a tool for popularizing new and upcoming bands but this hasn't taken root yet apparently. I like classic rock but I have listened to so much Black Sabbath, Stones, Zeppelin, Phloyd and other such stuff that I can only take it in small doses now. There's this one song I can't think of, some wheezy nasal whiny song that I nontheless love, it sounds kind of like Dillon but I can't be sure, "She asked me to stay, I said no way, then I said ok".... la da da dee da, da da dee da, da da dee DAAAAHHH! or something like that.... I like that for some strange reason! There are even one or two "elevator songs" I like although I can't think of them now. I mostly like that "alternative rock" of the 90's and especially the stuff that resembles good old fashioned metal.... and of course Violent Femmes and some Punk rock. Really my interests are all over the place, but I don't like much Jazz or blues or most classical. There was some song in the late 90's about supersonic hydroponic, I would be in your debt if I could know the name ol that song and the band it was from. OK so I am interested in what may exist today that is some band you would like to go see stoned. I saw part of something a few nights ago on PBS and I thought the band was "My Spring Jacket" but I can't find that anywhere when I search for it.... at first I was like, you can't be serious, but as I watched it I got into it more and more, it was trippy freaky bizzarre and sung by these hippy dudes [I look as straight as they come and wish I could grow long hair that looks decent], and I grew to love it! so any modern info would be great. Although reminiscing about the "good ol' days" is certainly welcome too! Damn I talked way too mcuh! now time to hear from you! hahaha
PEACE

Those are bands right? Yeah of course right? well I am in a strange state tonight so bear with me.... this brings up a new question, any reliable places to downlod free music nowadays? NOt these nasty, spyware infested hellhole sesspools but real alternatives to buying a whole CD that is expensive just to get one or two songs you like?

I'm not really into any of the modern bands, most of the new
rock bands just plain suck, though some are pretty good.
AC/DC is my top choice of band, followed by The Doors,
Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Jet, SilverChair the Hoodoo Guru's
and Midnight Oil...

dave matthews band  anything pre '99. New stuff is not bad either.

Of course led zeppelin and nirvana. None better than Pink floyd. However I'm biased, as are all of you! I grew up listening to Pink floyd and nirvana. then fell in love with dmb.

peace all, mp :joint:

yeah I like most of those too, except I am not too familiar with Jet or Hoodoo Guru's, and I forgot what song(s) I liked from SilverChair.

yes I love all that is Nirvana! what is dmb?
oh dave matthews band? well I guess they never grew on me because my brother had a nasty roommate in college that loved them but was an anal dick, when I visited my brother he would object to me listening to his CD's [he had no idea whether it was me or my bro but had a coniption about it when I was there] but yet he listened to my bro's....
but whatever, I like to forget jerks like that. But yeah I never got into them for that reason. I used to like Tool too, but some nasty jerks I lived with soured me on that too.

Modest mouse is my favorite band without a doubt. Music rubbed me right and became a huge part of my life. We were made for eachother.

Ugh! I don't know what you are talking about AND I don't like the real Martha Stewart as I feel she is an arrogant... well you get the picture.... but I respect different opinions and if you like her that's fine. But what did you mean?
I may be too honest for my own good but had to get that out there. those do seem like cool lyrics, so who did you mean?

ah yes Modest Mouse, they had at least one song I like but it was whatever one was popular at the time and played on all the local radio stations, as I did not have a lot of money to spend and just listened to whatever was available. "all ready we all go on alright...." or something like that, I love that song!

mouse works fine now by the way! And sorry if I offended you Martha, as I really did not want to do that! Rob Zombie... what about him? I heard something from him on the Leno Show a while back and it wasn't as good as his older stuff but not bad! I wish I could look and act like that! I would scare everyone into respecting me! :D

yes it's a sucky Friday night for me... but I must admit I have listened to some dmb stuff that wasn't half bad, maybe I could get into it with more familiarity. So there is no modern-day equivalent to the Grateful Dead or Phish?
