Young children all have 'perfect pitch'. Some very young ones can't recognize a familiar melody in a different key than they learned it in, while any adult can recognize 'twinkle twinkle' no matter what key it's heard in. Transposition is a higher musical skill than pitch memory, which is often dropped early in childhood because it's not much use, at least not to english speakers. I figured this out on my own 30 years ago, someday it will be common knowledge. You heard it here first.
