Couple videos to start the discussion off... Firstly, this excellent striking breakdown of the first Silva/Sonnen fight:

And Sonnen discusses his tough upbringing on the mean streets of West Linn Oregon:

You already know my thoughts. Silva was hurt last fight and still made it happen. Hope it's a good fight either way.

So tired of the character Sonnen has created. He's an extremely talented fighter but his WWF style promotions is more than I can bare to listen too. I have no respect for liars or cheats and he's both. Good luck Silva. I've never seen him so emotional prior to a fight, hope he keeps his cool and sticks to his gameplan.

This is a great card though and weigh-ins were pretty entertaining. Some serious talent on this card, makes up for the last event I guess. Stocked up on cherry kush and homebrew and ready for a fun night.

C-yall then.

hard to see sonnen winning. first fight things went just about as well as he could hope and still no dice. this time around i dont see silva allowing it to go to the ground as often. bisping showed with sonnen key is keep standin him up. without his takedowns and subsequent control hes almost always fightin from behind.

I don't know - I cast the vote towards Silva as I think that the likely outcome - but HONESTLY -

I AM SO SICK OF SILVA. He lacks class in my opinion. The one fight were he just danced around his Brazilian buddy or just lazy threw a fist at him enough to keep the cards in his favor - it was pure crap. GRANTED the dude had NO BUSINESS being in the ring with Silva - and as I understand it, that is the point he was making to the promoters...

But still - he's a fighter - the point should have been made by ending the fight in 10 seconds...NOT 3 rounds dancing in what was nothing more comedic daunting in my opinion -not to mention I think he crossed a line and just embarrassed the dude by not giving him an honorable defeat...

The dude is a talented fighter - no doubt - and I simply can't wait for the day that smug expectant victory gleam is beat out of him.

You can bet I'll be cheering for Sonnen and his school yard antics! (which I'm not too found of either...lol)

Dana knew Chael could get inside his head and trigger kill mode. It took two years but holy shit he is pissed. You can never count out a wrestler like Chael but seriously, we get to witness ANDERSON SILVA BEAST MODE? Thanks Chael. Hopefully you don't die. :tiphat:

I didn't vote. I like Chael's shit talking and I like mad Anderson Silva.

I don't think it was so much that Zuffa thought Chael would "get into his head and trigger kill mode". I think they're smart enough to notice that since going mainstream they have to have a more aggressive approach to marketing. Dress an All-Amurican up in red white and blue, let him talk baseless shit about everything under the sun and boom. The promotion is a huge hit with the crowd that doesn't understand technical grappling, hand fighting etc etc. You can't engage them with the technical aspects of fighting because its out of the average UFC fans knowledge base. Sure, they can comprehend two guys standing toe to toe and slugging away but thats boxing, not MMA. Engage them on raw emotions and rivalries and then they can relate. Every matchup has to have some sort of dilemma or controversy otherwise what would Goldie babble about for two hours. If it wasn't for Rogan I would mute the TV and crank the stereo up.

Chael is quite clearly the number one contender and a challenge for Silva if he loses his focus and doesn't stick to his game plan. I personally have never performed well in a technical fight while emotional, maybe he can, maybe its just hype to get that PPV bonus. Look for his jab to create distance and butterfly guard passes if he gets taken down. I imagine silva feigning triangles with the hopes that Chael will attempt to pass, there are a few triangle sweeps that puts you in back control if the person on top bites.

Anyone have any guesses who's next in line for middleweight? Vitor part 2? Munoz? Belcher? I'm not excited by any of those options personally.

.....and that's my morning coffee and skunk rant. Sorry for rambling. Looking forward tonights show

Thanks as always Mr. Bongjangles, I might buy this one though!
