Your talking back when our country was not so politically divided. I do believe in climate change, I just know middle America will not go for this deal and that is very problematic for the Democratic party.

Its a piece about why debt doesnt matter. It was something i thought about quite a bit back when Cheney said it; at the time i was a bit taken aback as the debt had been a Republican talking point for as long as i can remember, came back in vogue once obama was in office though. It falls under what they call modern monetary theory, and tbh, i buy into it to an extent. If you control the currency that is needed to pay a debt, you can just print more and pay it. The devaluation doesnt happen until after the money is spent to settle the debt, it is not part of the supply yet. There are various implications stemming from that, but when the US credit rating got cut bonds rallied...we might suck but the rest of the world is a worse place to park money so we have some wiggle room. If the dollar ever loses its status as the reserve currency for the world, then we will have issues, but no one is even close to surpassing us. It can lead to inflation, but again there is a lot of room there and some amount of currency devaluation would be good for our exports.

The caveat is that it doesnt matter... to an extent, if you start hitting inflationary rates like Zimbabwe its gonna crash and burn. If you print more money all the time, it makes our debt way less attractive to market and while you solve the short term problem it will cause issue down the road.

One issue i am sort of unclear on is how much of our federal debt winds up the profit of foreign entities outside our monetary system. A big point the MMT seems to make is that a federal deficit winds up as part of the public surplus, i am not sure how that jibes with the real world where it gets squirrelled away into a cayman island bank account by people at the top.

Tuition free public college can be paid with a financial transaction tax on wall street speculators. It's currently being called the Robin Hood Tax. It'd cost pennies per every dollar traded and not affect most of the US.

"Free" Healthcare is taxpayer funded public healthcare that would cover every American citizen, and is more cost effective for the average person and employers.
