I almost forgot about these Divyder seeds I had planted on Sunday. I pulled the plastic wrap off of them this morning. Looks like I'm at about 80% germination (19/24). Not bad for some 5 year old seeds. My plan is to stay under the 12 flowering plant count, so I will save the best 2-3 males for the cross and the best 2-3 females for some F2s to give away to the community. I'll pop another 24 of the Critical Mass x Ginger Alex Blueberry and keep the best 8-10 females for pollination.

I got text from my dad today, one of the clones I gave him is a boy. Unfortunately he didn't keep track of the plant label. It's quite possible I messed up my labeling. My clones were labeled DD 1-4, but when I harvested, they were labeled SS 2-5. I guess I will have to take some cuts and flower them out to see if I kept the male by accident, or if one of them has intersex tendencies. I'm sort of hoping for the former, because the pollen I saved to make F2s wasn't fully dry and doesn't look viable.

I think I killed my humidifier. I tried to get it to 75% RH, but it wouldn't get above 65% or so. I guess it was running too long, or got too hot, or the power supply went out. I'll try and fix it, if not I may look at upgrading to something else for the desert.

The Divyder are now up to 23/24 seeds above ground. I gave them their first watering today, just enough to get the soil surface wet. I plan to top dress the pots with craft blend, bokashi, and mulch with rice hulls soon.

The Lion's Mane mushroom is growing more and more every day. It's been pretty fun watching it grow, I can't wait to see how it tastes.

Weighed the hash and pressed the rosin from the first two DD plants. It came out a lot darker than normal, but it has an excellent flavor and effect. I'm hoping to wash another batch this weekend.
Picsart_23-02-15_13-03-01-176.jpg

I calculated a few statistics from these first two plants:
Dominion Diesel #1 yielded 5.79 grams of hash and 2.89 grams of rosin.
2.04% wet to hash
10.16% dry to hash
49.91% hash to rosin
5.07% dry to rosin
0.72 g rosin /ft2

Dominion Diesel #2 yielded 12.14 grams of hash and 7.64 grams of rosin.
3.88% wet to hash
19.27% dry to hash
62.93% hash to rosin
12.13% dry to rosin
1.91 g rosin /ft2

My fogger had stopped working. I thought it was the transducer that was bad, so I ordered a new one. When it got here today, I plugged it in. It didn't work either. I did some investigating and found a fuse on the power supply. The fuse was blown, so I ordered a 10 pack from Amazon.
Picsart_23-02-15_18-22-29-335.jpg

The question remains, why was the fuse blown? Perhaps the transducer went out, or perhaps the power supply per heated? I know that without plants, the dehumidifier cannot get the RH past 60%. I had it set to 70% and it ran for about 24 hours straight without turning off.

Got the results back from my soil test, see the column labeled Cycle #8. Feeding the plants every 7-10 days really helped increase the nutrient density of the soil.
ReikoX-Soil-20230216-157132.png

The soil pH is still higher than I want at 7.4, but with all the calcium inputs it's hard to keep the pH down. In general most of my nutrition numbers went up. My phosphorous levels went up this round, I was feeding Rootwise Biophos and it seems to work as advertised. Sodium went up quite a bit, so I'm going to use CalPhos instead of fish bone meal for the phosphorous this round. The calcium levels look great, I wont need to add any additional gypsum this round. Both magnesium and potassium were both a bit low, which is convenient because I can use langbeinite which has both. Boron is higher than it has ever tested, but I am goin to push it even further, particularly with the high level of calcium I am using. I have been trying to get my Fe:Mn ratio closer to 1, but keep running into application limits with the manganese. Since I'm not going to plant in these for a while, I'm ignoring the application limits and using a corrective dose of manganese sulfate. I will be rounding out the trace elements with some cobalt, molybdenum, and zinc sulfates. Finally, the nitrate level increased significantly. I will continue top dressing with nitrogen and feeding amino acids.

Soil Prescription
355 grams Feather Meal
650 grams CalPhos
300 grams Langbenite
9.5 grams Borax
80 grams Manganese Sulfate
2.25 grams Cobalt Sulfate Heptahydrate
8.5 grams Sodium Molybdate Dihydrate
8.5 grams Zinc Sulfate

Previous Soil prescription
350 grams Feather Meal
325 grams Fish Bone Meal
2.5 grams Borax
8 grams Manganese Sulfate
1.25 grams Cobalt Sulfate Heptahydrate
3 grams Copper Sulfate Heptahydrate
0.5 grams Sodium Molybdate Dihydrate

Pre-trimmed the Zak Haze S1 plants in preparation for harvest. Thinking they will be done around day 70-75F.
Picsart_23-02-18_14-27-48-290.jpg

Divyder autos are doing well. I top dressed each pot with 1/2 teaspoon of craft blend and 1/4 teaspoon of bokashi. Then I added two tablespoons of rice hulls as a mulch. Finally I watered them in.

Chasing The Present
I harvested the flower room Sunday at day 63 exactly. Sorry, I didn't take any pictures, my hands got quite sticky. I kept a couple tops from each of the four plants, and froze the remaining buds for a total of 2132 grams wet. I'll have more grow stats as the tops dry and I begin making the hash. The first batch of hash could happen as early as Thursday night.

I used the Grove Bags fresh frozen bags this time. I have to admit, they seem to work better than regular freezer bags. They are huge, however. I could easily fit a couple kilograms in each bag. I went a head and ordered a few more, along with the one-ounce bags. I'm sold on these instead of jars. I usually hook my brother up with an ounce or two from each grow, this way I don't have to worry about getting my jars back.

I still some cleaning and maintenance to do in the flower room. I need to clean and mop the floor, then I want to soak my drippers in vinegar, and finally clean the Blumat carrots. My next couple of runs will be an auto breeding project in containers, so the beds will rest for a bit.

I was scrolling through IG earlier and I stumbled on this post from Slownickel.

According to this perspective, my Mg and K were both low this last round. I had about 83% Ca, 8% Mg, 4% K, and 1 % Na. I was following the calcareous worksheet from Solomon's book The Intelligent Gardener. That worksheet had me target 85% Ca, 5% Mg, 3% K (table lookup), 1% Na. Next time, I'll try pushing the Mg and K higher and lay off the Ca a bit.

I got this little aero garden for Christmas, I finally set it up today at the office.
IMO Mikes overzealous with his Mg recommendation, especially the higher end… great thread buddy :tiphat:

Thanks for stopping by. I am still pretty new at this whole soil science stuff, but I am starting to get the basics down. I can look at a soil test now and mostly understand it. I can calculate a soil "prescription" and have had pretty good success. Still lots to learn, it's quite the rabbit hole.

Zak Haze S1 got the chop at day 70F. I'll get a final weight I'm 7-10 days once they dry.
Picsart_23-02-22_19-33-08-438.jpg

The buds look about ready to me. No shortage of frost on these. One plant had quite a few foxtails.
Picsart_23-02-22_19-38-11-476.jpg

Out with the old, in with the new. This should answer the question of if I labeled these correctly. The front left plant is #1 and shpuld be male. If tajtbis the case, then I don't have a clone of #5, but I will be able to make F2s.

I decided to harvest the Lion's Mane mushroom tonight. I sliced them and pan fried them in butter and olive oil.
Picsart_23-02-23_18-38-29-340.jpg

I had them with grilled steak "surf" and turf style. They were delicious. They definitely had a shellfish texture. The taste was pretty neutral with some umami. They soaked up a lot of the oil, it would have been better with more butter and no oil.

The Divyder plants are starting to take off and all are showing sex at 26 days from germination. I counted 8 males and 15 females. I will likely cull the outliers to keep as much uniformity as possible.
Picsart_23-03-01_11-22-51-004.jpg

I culled the male Dominion Diesel in the QT tent to prevent cross contamination with the Divyders. I'll keep the three females and make a few Dominion Diesel x Divyder seeds. I still have the male, I can make F2s at another date when I'm done with this project.
Picsart_23-03-01_11-22-06-449.jpg

I weighed the hash from the last two plants. Dominion Diesel #3 yielded 13.92 grams of hash for a 1.88% return. Dominion Diesel #4 yielded 17.91 grams of hash for a 2.25% return. I got it all in bags and ready to press, but life got in the way and I won't be able to press it for a few more days.

Sometimes life gets in the way, but it has a way of evening out. I found myself with a couple of hours on my hand. I decided to press the Dominion Diesel hash. I ended up with about 8 grams of Dominion Diesel 3 and about 12 grams from Dominion Diesel 4.

I culled down to 11 Divyder plants. I ended up with four males, and seven females. I meant to cull down to 11, but apparently got carried away.
Picsart_23-03-04_15-37-31-249.jpg

I dropped some of the Critical Mass x Ginger Alex Blueberry on Friday night for the female side of the cross.
Picsart_23-03-03_23-28-04-131.jpg

On Sunday night, I got them transferred into the pots and covered with plastic wrap.
Picsart_23-03-06_09-30-44-352.jpg

I got a final trim and weight on the Zak Haze S1 in the solo cups. I ended up with a total of 48 grams of buds from the three plants. They vegged for 40 days at 0.9 kWh per day and flowered for 70 days at 0.6 kWh per day. The average wattage was 50W. That's 0.96 g/W, 0.44 g/day, 0.61 g/kWh, 27.00 g/ft2

The lion's mane mushroom is getting a second flush. Thinking about trying some vegan crab cakes next time. The texture would lend itself to it nicely.

Webcam update today...

I moved the Divyder plants into the flower room this morning. I configured the timer and LED controller for 20/4 light schedule at 70% power, turned on the circulation fans, set the exhaust to 81*F/50% RH, turned **off** the CO2 controller, and setup the Pulse to monitor those values. Looking at these now, I should probably add some support stakes tonight.

The Critical Mass x Ginger Alex Blueberry (CMxGAB) got moved to the top shelf in the veg room. A few have already broke the surface. I'll likely have to remove the plastic wrap in a couple of days. Once they show sex, I will cull the males and pollinate the females with the Divyder pollen.
_data_user_0_com.zmodo_cache_1444923-0-20230308-083021-310.jpg

Last night I collected a bit of pollen from the Divyder males. I'm drying out some to save for the CMxGAB. I dusted the Dominion Diesel females in the QT tent with a bit. They are only two weeks of 12/12 so don't have many bud sites yet. I will continue collecting pollen every couple of days and dusting the Dominion Diesel.
