Ethanol will boil at *90f under full vacuum

i use 150f to boil it off slowly into the open air (outside) then i reduce to 120f for a long purge full vac
All temps with IR thermometer

With a fan blowing air on the evaporating dish solution so it so ripples back and forth in waves will speed up the evaporation so you can avoid such high temps.

I use the cutout foot from a pair of panty hose stretched over the the input side of my electronics box fan as a dust filter.

I just leave my pyrex to sit for 24-48 hours and its done. Clear Rock Candy Super Hard chit after your freeze the alcohol for a few days in an old freezer then run it thru unbleached coffee filters, finished. I have been doing BHO for the last few years though as I enjoy it more. If I was gonna do some medical oil I would use ever clear and just leave it out maybe a fan over it then scrape and your finished. Clean stuff.

Yeah, I think Everclear/grain alcohol makes a tiny bit superior product compared to ISO.

I would try butane but IMO alcohol and ISO seem a lot easier and require less efforts.

Everclear is illegal in my state. Is it worth ordering some 99% ISO online versus just using the 91% thats cheap and available here? From what you guys are describing the everclear evaporates alot easier than the 91% ISO. Anyone used both and have any insight?

You just have to remove the extra water afterwards, which takes longer than just solvent. I always use 99% ISO, but if I was desperate, I would use what I had.

For ya'll who do have a choice of QWISO or QWET, consider that ethanol residuals are more salubrious and for those of ya'll who don't, 190 proof ethanol is available shipped to most places.

For all of ya’ll living where 190 proof isn’t readily available, here are a couple sites that will ship most anywhere,

Hello all
My new toy just arrived 2000ml filter flask and 1000ml funnel. I am ignorant in lab glass and when I ordered the funnel I was unaware that in stead of holes it has something like a porous stone and I have no idea if it will let the concentrate pass through it.

When I poured some Iso in it it wouldn't drip through until through until I used the hand help vacuum pump. It looks like it will be hell to keep this stone clean. Will it let the concentrate pass through?

Ok I got to try out my funnel and flask. What I like about it is I can pour the Iso and material right into a simple kitchen strainer right into the funnel.

Skyhighler's idea of using the coffee filter was spot on it keeps the filter paper from floating up.

Ok now for the bad part the hand held vacuum pump sucks well actually it doesn't suck. I pumped as fast as I could and could only generate 100 mmHG ( according to the gauge) I got close to 200 once but for a very short time.

I was running shake and popcorn and there are a lot of fines and they clog up everything very quickly and you cant get the hand held vacuum to pull hard enough to get anything but a dribble after awhile.

I am disappointed now its back to researching something different for the vacuum pump.

ok, I found a harbor freight air vacuum pump. This vacuum pump uses compressed air vs any electricity so it seems like it would safe for the Iso vacuum. It also has two ports both with caps so my idea was to loosen the cap not being used to control the amount of vacuum.

Its $20 so seems like a cheap and easy to try. I do all this in my garage so I can open the man door and or the car door for safety just for the test.

99% iso works just fine its just not as easy to get shatter from it like ethanol but it works

Prefilter it with something like a bandana or a scrap piece of a clean tshirt or terry towel

That is a very fine filter (the buchner) so you need to prefilter if the material is dirty. Another option would be paint strainer

No such thing as something for nothing. I see the problem its the cfm required to run this thing . I own the standard pancake compressor the specs : Air Consumption at 90 PSI (SCFM)2.6

The pump vacuum has the required specs :air compressor should be rated at 4.5 CFM with an output of 90 psi

Timboy recommended that also but here in the midwest running the water in the winter outside is a problem and I don't have a water spigot in my garage and the better half doesn't want me to do this in the house.

What did you think about the air pump vacuum I posted?

Use the vacuum aspirator with a water fountain pump, garden hose, and rubbermaid tote. Water goes round and round with the tote as the reservoir.

Here's a commercial version, check out the specs for wattage and flow rate/height to determine approximate pump size.

Ok just had a little time to look at this. The commercial device in your link has a 0.7 cfm capability will this provide evacuation needed? This is not a closed vacuum system my assumption is that higher cfms are required but I have no idea other than gut feel to quantify this.

I researched water fountain pumps and they are inexpensive but not sure if I can generate the required cfm needed to pull through the clogged filter on my funnel?

Have you used this system before ?

Great advice I will prefilter the shake/popcorn mix.

Tell me about your experience with the water siphon vacuum pump?

How strong is the stream of Iso through the filter?

the faucet vac pulls over -25hg on my little vac chamber so the suction is strong.

The stream is fast enough it drips towards the end but the beginning is a tiny stream

They will pull up to about -28.5" Hg, which is enough for vacuum filtration.
